  4. TBF to drozdz his average of 5.5 in Poland is quiet good baring in mind that in every match his easy race he had drabik in that race, and beating him is no easy feet. He then faced the world's best in his other 2. So for me that's an impressive average. If he can bring that form here then were laughing. We know he will struggle away but most tracks are a fair size now. Only really wolves that's a trick track and even our top boys cant ride that place. Thanks must go to woffy who as helped this deal to happen as he sees drozdz has a future. Damien you little devil. You have my backing.

  5. When Mauger and the Aces came to newly 'promoted' Ipswich in 1972 the traffic queue into the stadium was miles down the road. Likewise when Poole came to the Showground with Holder and Ward the crowd increased and there was a fantastic atmosphere as well. Only great riders can create that type of buzz imo...

  9. Interesting to read that the formulaE that was held in London still got people complaining even though it was silent , some people will just complain about anything if it doesn’t fit in with their precious life , tossers that’s all they are

  13. How can anyone say Drodz will never be as good as Woryna? Hes only 21 and Woryna didnt pull up many trees in his last UK stint, hes improved a lot, that's what young riders tend to do its called development, Drodz could develop better or not develop at all who knows at this stage of his career. Riders all develop differently, look no further than Doyle.

  15. Whats not to like? A top 5 with 4 x 7+ pointers including 2 of last season's Number 1s and a current SGP rider, plus a Pole who took the Polish league by storm in 2017 and who has always wanted to ride for Poole. A 2nd Pole plus last season's number 7 both of whom can and will improve their averages!!

  16. We had this with a near weekly petition about a mx practice track. Once we proved that they had complained when there was nobody on site one week none of the names on that petition could ever be taken into account again (which was nearly everybody) and we were granted 364 days planning permission. Asking some of the locals in the village shop one day after all this if the noise was really an issue it was said that most didn't mind but the bloke who organised it all was such a pain in the arse that they all signed to shut him up! It is a landmark new law that will do a lot for motorsport in general with places like Mallory Park and Brands Hatch having major problems with complainants.

  17. No! Part of the attraction of the CL is the arrival of young Aussies with potential to progress to greater things. Would the likes of Doyle, Fricke, Tungate, Masters, etc. have ever graced the CL if there was such a restriction in place when they arrived as promising raw youngsters? As usual with some "Brits First" posters on here, they claim that our Antipodean friends are taking the bread out of the mouths of mediocre locals. Fact is that in 2017 this "deluge" of young Aussie invaders totaled one, yes one!, namely Josh Pickering whose performances home & away were appreciated by Monarchs fans. As the visa entrance criteria has already been reduced from top 4 to 3 in State Titles, which as things stand , will prevent new Oz U-21 Champ, Jaimon Lidsey from appearing here in 2018, I would prefer that the previous quota was reinstated, which I believe, would allow Lidsey to be considered.

  20. Do try to keep up Gav - Poole's first team meeting is v Somerset on Good Friday!! You know - the team with the current World Champion and as you've already said the Poole 2018 team is not as good as 2017, I guess Poole will start as underdogs against the Rebels?!

  21. Oh here we go, Gavan trying to create drama when there isn't any. Ned Payne has already said he expects to be able to put something in the Echo this week. Never gonna be on a Monday with all the football coverage.

  23. Am i the only one on here thinking the Poles are not crazy with this whole situation regaurding 3 league limit?? They have the best league in the world, the best riders and solid teams, the best stadiums and the most supported meetings - Why wouldnt they want to protect there product? Okay it sucks that we miss out, but Speedway in this country has been miss managed for years and the product has been cut so much that we now have 2nd division team line ups in the top flight. You cant blame the riders for putting the most effort/resources into a job in Poland as the rewards are far more than they could ever expect over here. Good on the Poles for making a stand i say!

  29. There will always be pluses and minuses to a team running solely in this competition. A team has to either nominate an intended team under the 39 point limit at the start of the season or pick a team of riders on form but come in under 39 points as the season progresses or use a selection of unattached riders. For Cradley & for entertainment purposes the route the club is taking is probably the correct one as there will be a competitive side out each time and continuity will at least bring a side together that fans can relate too on a regular basis. Obviously this all falls over if Cradley reach the final and the rider reverts to their original club. As proven last year the concept of producing a dream team is one thing but creating the unity and fighting spirit plus creating racing partnerships is another. As ever i would rather see two well matched sides on track creating entertainment than a meeting where the result is practically decided before tapes up. Providing the Northern group serves up good racing and keeps the Cradley fans entertained there is hope that the Team can survive as i fear if a spectacle is not produced interest will wain and the famous name may be lost again.

  31. Which would be JBA, MBA, Busch and Stewart if the rumours are true. I like Kus, and think a fully fit and happy Kus could do well. Would have preferred him as third heat leader though.

  32. Amazing to hear this because Mildenhall is surely one of the most remote tracks, right out in the countryside. I wonder if the people who complained about this also complained about the local RAF airbase which is much, much closer to a built-up area! And what about all the many houses built right next to busy roads where there's constant rumbling traffic noise?

  39. You're right. More than anything fans want continuity but only when things are going right. At King's Lynn though, they stick by rider's when clearly things ain't so and that's the issue. 2018 is turning into same old, same old. Iversen, Lambert, Rose, Kerr have been in a failing Stars side consistently, not saying any are to blame but if we want to improve, just shifting the furniture about doesn't cut it

  41. Thanks bruv, looks like a 4 point newcomer then. Be gutted if Nathan doesn't get a team, he is better than Grondal & quite a few other foreign riders that have secured team places for next season in my opinion.

  43. COVENTRY Speedway are delighted to welcome Martyn Macdonald as their new team manager for the 2018 season. Martyn will take charge of the Bees for their National League campaign with home matches taking place at Leicester’s Beaumont Park Stadium. Although this is his first appointment as a manager, Martyn will be a familiar face to many, as he has been involved in the sport for nearly 30 years – several of them spent at Coventry. He was a regular in the Brandon pits working with a number of riders – including former World Champion Greg Hancock, Stuart and Scott Robson, Martin Smolinski and more recently Kacper Woryna. Martyn was also a member of Steve Worrall’s pit crew when the Belle Vue rider appeared as a track reserve in the 2016 British Grand Prix at Cardiff. His active involvement dates back to 1991 when he was a member of the track staff at Middlesbrough’s former Cleveland Park venue, leading to him helping riders such as Jonathan Swales, Stuart Swales and Shane Parker. Martyn, who lists Martin Dixon and Kenny Carter as his favourite riders of all-time, is qualified in general and aeronautical engineering and has been working in NHS mental health since 1999. And he says he’s keen to establish a strong rapport between the riders as they look to make a success of the season. He said: “It will be different from my point of view because I’ll have to get to know people a lot more, rather than in the past it just being the ones I helped. “But quite often team management is something that people in the pits area decide they want to progress to. “That was what I thought myself, I felt I’d really like to do it, and the opportunity is there to see what I can do. “I’m looking forward to trying to bond the seven riders together to make a successful team out of it, and being more in charge of an overall outcome than an individual one. “We’re going to have a pre-season get-together to get to know people, and also hopefully have a few practice sessions at Leicester to get the winter cobwebs out of the system. “I’m also looking forward to working with Jon (Armstrong) as captain, and he’s been really helpful to both myself and Mick (Horton) with building the team, because he knows these lads first-hand. “The aim is for everyone to help each other, and there will be a briefing before and after each meeting, because if you have any issues the worst thing that can happen is you drive home with them - so hopefully we can get things resolved on the night, and all push on together for a good season.” ENDS

  44. Mark Loram, Joe Screen, Kelly Moran.......all more talented than Ivan Mauger on a bike but it takes something special to become a multi world champion. For all his talent Darcy hadnt got there when his career cut short...................but to say he would have been world champ time and again is a bit much

  45. Krysztof Kasprzak Jack Holder Brady Kurtz Kyle Newman Hans Andersen Nicolai Klindt James Shanes I seem to remember that that 1-7 was being called untouchable about this time last season!!!!! The 1-7 this season for Poole looks no better than last seasons to me. Many ifs and buts in Sundstrom and the 2 Poles and Holder......................would hate to see last season repeated..................you never know Lahti and Kennett might be free mid season to replace Holder and one of the Poles!

  47. Always annoying when Ivan came to your track and clean up in those days you always got excited when Ivan was in town . I've always wondered how many times he would have been champion of the world under the gp format ?

  48. So you are saying Ivan Mauger won all his six titles by bending the rules is that right ?. Mauger won all his title's because he was the best rider in the world and he worked damn hard to do it ,you cannot even mention Ford in the same breath as Mauger Ivan had integrity and class.

  49. Write to me at Speedwayontheisland@yahoo.co.uk and I will be delighted to send you and yours a family ticket to experience the Warrior Way with us in 2018. If at the end of it you dont like it, or feel we can improve it (this is always possible) then tell me, but if you and yours like it, shake my hand to visit your local track or us again. All the best Barry (Co-promoter IOW)

  50. THE real issue is not so much when a rider challenges the obvious illegality of the asset and loan system but when a promoter is prepared to break the mould and simply sign a rider who is out of contract regardless of the consequences.
