  1. Well done to the 3 scoring Comets. Really pleased Nicoai seems to have upped his game after previous poor performances. It's just a shame Rene hasn't done the same. He seems to be a shadow of the rider he once was. I have followed Workington since the seventies but I just can't get enthused about this season. The lack of home fixtures probably isn't helping but then things like turning up at Glasgow with a second halfer is pathetic. I'm not saying we didn't try to find a guest but whatever the reasons it is shambolic. How many fans would turn up for a Man U match if they turned out with players from Workington Reds. I used to move heaven and earth to make sure I didn't miss a home meeting but now it's getting to the point where I only go if I'm not doing anything else. I don't know what the answers are but speedway is killing itself and it's a real shame.

  2. A record 150,00 people attended Coventry Motofest over the weekend of June 2nd/3rd. The organisers provided an excellent position for the SCS&S campaign group stand and we were exposed to thousands of visitors that we would not normally expect to see. We had so many positive conversations with people and everyone we spoke to wanted to see motorsports back at Brandon ASAP! http://savecoventryspeedway.com/news.php?extend.158

  7. Surely now the time has come for the SCB to take action over the ongoing safety problems at Stoke. In the last 3 meetings, 3 riders have ended up in hospital. Last week James Chattin ended up in critical care with broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a damaged spleen (Thankfully now on the way to recovery). Tonight heat 1 took 4 attempts to run, and ended with just 1 finisher and one faller pushing over the line for 2nd place. The match was abandoned when 3 riders all fell on the second bend of heat 11. In between there were 13 fallers in 10 heats, and 3 riders withdrawn from the meeting with various injuries. Spectators were again covered in ridiculous clouds of dust from the first bend. It was also the fourth meeting of the season to have a second half MDL meeting planned....and the MDL riders are yet to race a meeting. Every single one postponed/abandoned by some sort of Stoke induced calamity. All this on a dry, fine night. Things have now gone beyond a joke. Riders and fans have long been inconvenienced by the dust, poor track, generator failures, air-fence deflations, electric failures, etc etc... but when rider safety is being so badly compromised with riders ending up in hospital on a regular basis, and multiple riders withdrawing injured every meeting, surely it's time for action.

  8. just read the local Glasgow spiel machine write up on last nights meeting . COMmEnTS made about mason not beating anyone in the glasgow 1 to 5 was mentioned and not being given 7 rides . .. ht 14 was his last ride and he could not ride in yellow and white @ the same time . . the same could be sais with the Glasgow reserves only beating a 16 yr old 1st seasoner and the guest dale lamb. pretty poor COMmEnTS from the spiel machine again . if worky had turned up with a full 1 to 7 . it would be a different story being written . reminds me of hitler and his blind fury @ war . pretty cr4p . if a certain Glasgow rider is not fit ,(Starkie) why do they include him in the team .. utter bullocks story reading . how is sarj getting on?, replace before its too late . he is costing you . funny how the management cant see that . good to see our team of second strings beating 8 point plus men on their own patch ..

  10. Good result, & an amazing performance from Tom Bacon. How Lambert had 4 rides, only our team manager knows the answer. Quite funny in clubhouse after the meeting with Garrity bleating about the lack of dirt, making it hard to ride the outside. Just learn to ride the inside, like our boys.

  11. Superb stuff from Nicolai, Rasser and Mason, that could have been an absolute hiding with the team we had to field last night. As others have said, something(s) needs to be done to help save our sport. Injuries happen unfortunately so there is always going to have to be a necessity for guests and/or R/R. The problem is a shortage of riders, and the fact we have a league of only 11 teams. With 4 meetings last night it was always going to be difficult to get a suitable guest. Why we ended up with the guest we did however is anybody's guess. Surely there are better quality riders at National League level we can use (if the rules allow), the site of the likes of Lamb and Woolley (who we had to endure for weeks on end last year) trundling around is embarrassing for the sport. Or is that one of the problems we have, a huge disparity in standard between the Championship and the National Leagues whereas with one or two exceptions there is very little to choose between the top 2 leagues. I say amalgamate the top 2 leagues which will enable the fixtures to be spread over more days, therefore more riders will be available as cover.

  13. Hope it is just a simple collarbone - although that would be a bit boring for Kyle! He doesnt usually do straightforward injuries! All the best fella - be back soon

  14. Your post didn't say about the winner of the race, it mentioned the team that finish first. The team that finished first was Russia as there was still a GB rider who hadn't finished when Russia had all crossed the line. The winner of the race was Tai. The team that finished first was Russia. Not the same thing.

  15. The news last night was a suspected broken collar bone but he was taken for X-rays . From what I heard it sounds like it’s broken though.Tyrpical type of injury when a rider gets high sided in that way. He was desperately unlucky for this to come at a time he was really coming into form . He ride from last to second to join Adam for a 5-1 in his previous ride was superb. I didn’t think Berwick were a bad side, they just couldn’t find consistency in their gating. NBJ impressed me. This is the best Lakeside team for years, not just on the track, but off track they seem to all get on well, and this translates to the way they ride together. A lot of team riding and looking out for each other last night.

  16. Surely a sportsperson VISA for a one off event (uk sports event visa) has a totally different set of criteria to a work permit/working VISA. Not sure why people assume not being eligible for the latter would preclude eligibility for the former.

  17. Well 50-40 with 3 man team considering Rene scored 3 ...a mediocre Glasgow crowd tonight as we were there for the taking , but we leave home happy , no disgrace in fact if I were a Glasgow fan I would be more pee’d off , if we had Ty and Dan tonight we would have had you so enjoy your 3 points , you be lucky to make top 4 this season !!

We thankfully now have a couple of weeks to allow our team to sort things out! Good win tonight though for the Black and Gold boys and hopefully a warm up for what will be a cracking tie in the KO Cup!

  24. I don't believe Hancock is the nice guy he makes out, I have felt that since that incident with Nicki. I know Nicki is not everybody's favourite, but the way Hancock made that public statement about his view of Nicki's mental health that is unprofessional, unforgivable and close to bullying (trying to get more people within speedway against him) in my opinion. But that view aside I listened to this interview with an open mind, and I have come away believing this guy is more of a douche than I did before. I think he threw Gino under the bus there, he talks about bad apples, and stay away from bad apples, he didn't call Gino a bad apple, but it was within that conversation, so what did Greg mean by that? I think it's clear. Rather than debate on some podcast, surely if Hancock was a real nice guy, a real professional guy he should have answered simply 'You know, Gino had some concerns and I am going to give him a call and find out where he's coming from and see if there were issues, try and resolve so we can get things right next time" He then makes quite a few comments, one of which "you should think before you speak", well that's good advice Greg. What a douche.

  25. I just find it sad that the Speedway Press/Broadcasters are not representing all the fans and asking the tough questions, I find it even sadder they themselves are not actually understand why the question is important to ask. Surely if the public are asking questions, the media's job is to ask those questions, regardless if they believe in that view or not. As it stands, it doesn't appear BT Sport or the SS have asked the question of Tai or Rosco (unless I have missed, then I apologise).

  26. As a Crayford fan, Kelvin Mullarkey was something akin to the Dark Lord - at Crayford they said he increased attendance by a couple of hundred just to boo him - and he loved it One of the last great entertainers - would wind up his opposition fans and at first I hated him but after I had the pleasure of spending a rather drunken evening in Canterbury in his company I realised he really was one of the good guys of the sport and the antics were all for show Sadly, I don't think our sport will see the likes of him again Condolences to his family

  28. Sorry to hear you aren't enjoying the music Marko. I have been trying to mix it up to cater for all ages/tastes and I play songs that I know work whilst trialling out different songs. I'm sure you would have heard a few last night. Plus, I did have to play an extra hours worth of songs last night to fill the gaps. Also I'm not sure if anyone is aware but I do both the music and the announcing so sometimes I don't have the time to carefully select a song and have to go with the first thing I can. However any feedback/suggestions are most welcome, I shall take your comments on board for the next meeting.

  31. Not really sure that’s true. The lower leagues rely on riders doubling down just as much as the top flight do. There simply isn’t enough riders to go around. Wether we like it or not it’s a necessary evil. It’s also one of the reasons why one big league wouldn’t work under its current format.

  32. Or perhaps a bigger group? Barely into double figures? I bet Poland had 30 there. I should think that riders need a minimum of four "backroom staff" each.

  33. I wonder ... You could have it spot on. Spelling it out like that may have actually been all that it needed for them to realise the best tactics. I bet it would have made them think it WAS different. If only the riders had a group of people around them to help.

  41. Just seen this There was a programme on BBC Radio 4xtra on Friday 15 June and was about speedway and featured Michael Lee. For anyone that missed the programme it's now available for next few days on the BBC iPlayer Radio app or online at their website. The programme is from 2012 and was recorded at a King's Lynn meeting in 2011.

  45. Your posts get worse and worse on this subject. But lets's engage in your fantasy world for a moment and assume that Tai did initially try and quickly gave up. Explain to me how it was in any way a good 'tactic' for Tai to chase the win. The win was irrelevant. By chasing it, Tai risked a greater chance of being excluded or falling which would have rendered any miraculous overtake of Sayfutdinov by Lambert irrelevant. Can you imagine the furore if Lambert had of got by Emil in the latter stages only for Tai to fall or be excluded in his chase of Laguta?

  46. I don't have a problem with the plan being "win the race" as before the tapes go up then if you have one rider finishing first your chances if getting an advantage increase dramatically. However, surely they should have agreed tactics based on various different scenarios? This should have been done in these meetings they looked to be having before Belle Vue, but even if not we had enough time between our final qualifying heat and the final to get that nailed down. "What do we do if we gate on a 5-1?", "What do we do if we gate on a 3-3 with Robert in front?", " What if we gate on a 1-5?". I find it incredibly hard to believe that if they did have that conversation that the answer to the last one would be, "Get to the front Tai and do what you can Rob", and if it was, it was wrong.

  47. Occasionally or from time to time, when the weather allows and the local promoter feels like it. And that is something the BSPA have consistently resisted over the last 20 years. "A let's try this, it might work " attitude prevails without thinking it through or listening to, or even asking for fan's feedback .
