Lack of continuity of meetings is one of the main reasons the promoters are killing the sport......7 points

We really enjoyed our first visit to Poole. Spent a bit of time before the meeting (and on Thursday night) at Poole Quay . What a great place , would love to go again . As for the Speedway .First impressions a great little Stadium ideally placed in the Town with fantastic viewing from the large main stand . A beautiful , warm summers evening and what seemed a large crowd. Thought there was some great racIng , the highlights Nicholls chasing down and passing Kurtz , and Harris on 2 occasions later in the meeting doing the same against Andersen and Nicholls. Best compliment would be that if i lived nearby i"d definitely go and watch on a regular basis. If only Leicester were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to build and design their own track which enabled thrilling racing , just think how good that would have been !!!!6 points

First time I can remember having to delay the start to let folk in at Ashfield they just kept coming in it has got to have been a wealthy crowd tonight stand was full well before the meeting 2 hospitality box’s full not much Space in the forth bend enclosure and the stand there it was great meeting for the fans to watch had everything you would want in a match and Speedway under flood lights can’t beat it4 points

Lets hope its all just precaution and no serious issue is actually there All the best Nathan - the thoughts of the Massif are with you4 points

Just a couple of observations. The 1965 and 1995 amalgamations were very different. In the 60s it was done very much on the terms of the lower (Provincial) league with a concerted effort to make all teams as equal as possible. Can never be totally achieved of course but they were close enough to provide a 17 team league fixture list. Result was a golden era for the sport. The 90s one was much more of a “survival of the fittest” effort. Result was an immediate loss of some tracks and a gradual decline in general. As regards promoters having ties to more than one track, this was never a problem for many years. Mike Parker and Reg Fearman both operated three tracks in the same league, the Knotts operated Poole at the same time as Southampton and then Newport. Then there was the Allied Promoters organisation which operated a number of tracks in each of the two leagues that then existed. Big point to make about them all though is that they were run as businesses that needed other successful tracks were needed to make a healthy league. Today’s win at all costs attitude is completely different. As I said just observations from someone who would love to see a proper full season of weekly fixtures against teams of similar strength.4 points

Yeah, I went on Weds. Though you have no idea how many times I have been. And I doubt you go as you don't seem to have much knowledge about the sport.4 points

This is a worrying trend people apologising after years of trolling, God forbid if Stevebrum ever wrote one it would make the Encyclopedia Britannica look like a Jehovah's witness pamphlet4 points

I would prefer one big league.More variety more matches.People like continuity and therefore matches most weeks. At Lynn we have had gaps of 5 weeks, supporters don't want that. Some Elite league snobs knock the championship but you get as good racing in that as the top league.Actually it's probably better. So what we may lose a few riders, and it would only be a few but I think it would bring a few more fans back imo4 points

oh the irony...….other fixtures featuring complete sides postponed to allow other teams to use their riders as guests..and then its off...3 points
-
Er isn’t that what Glasgow Peterborough Lakeside Ipswich .......,, hmm nice one! You are assuming teams would be PL strength but no way will that happen as more like ALL teams will need to be a bit like CL with some a strong number one and some stronger through the team.3 points

A bad situation made much worse by Rob Godfrey interfering with the fixture list and cancelling meetings.3 points

It’s probably no coincidence that speedway renaissance in 1965 came about through cooperation of promoters and a realistic approach to team strengths. It will need strong leadership to bring about the changes needed to kick the sport into another total reorganisation. Who will lead it ?3 points
-
Have you completely missed the posts concerning the lack of fixtures for the rest of the league? Some of them have or will be going 4 weeks without a home meeting. At the height of the season when the best opportunity should be there to attract new customers. Don't worry, you're alright Jack carry on with the positive attitude then you can race Scunny and Leicester every other week.3 points

Even if enough riders could be found this needs to be done properly so that each team starts the season with a competitive team, not like the mess of 1995. I like the idea of regular and varied fixtures with local derbies again but it needs to be done properly.....no confidence that the current crop of promoters could achieve that unfortunately.3 points

I was only thinking the other day about the Speedway Hotline, the premium-rate telephone service that used to keep you up to date with speedway news about 20 years ago. I only called it the once - to find out a result from somewhere - and couldn't believe the waffle you had to go through as your bill was ticking up just to find out what you actually wanted to know. I think most tracks had one, in addition to the national one provided by the BSPA. They don't half like ripping off fans. Thank god for the internet, eh.3 points

And there you have it some promoters feel the need to be "awkward" or unhelpful even if you have paid a ticket to see the match! That is a way to build up your crowd levels. Do it "my way" or not at all is something we know all about at King's Lynn where much of the old Len Silver mode continues, "don't come if you don't like it". And many have decided NOT to go because they don't like it.3 points

Great meeting, great crowd, great racing and the tigers rose to the challenge. 10 points from Sarjeant when up against 2 high averaging reserves was a great return.2 points

To be fair, Stevebrum has never been a troll, he’s just had mind numbing, never ending opinions that always need the last word. I’ll let Steve answer that while I put my pyjamas on.2 points

Simon Wigg arrived at Tarnow from England in the last minute before the tapes were due to go up. What more he was due to start in the first heat, which he duly won, and on top of that broke track record.2 points

I'd always class us as south but did go to watch Posh once at The Dell and the Southampton fans were calling us you dirty northern b'stards so it can be a bit hit and miss it would seem.2 points

With the exception of Belle Vue, you could argue that the Premiership is a Southern League anyway, add to that, you could argue the Championship is a Northern League, with the exception of Peterborough (?), Ipswich and Lakeside.2 points

Well Steve you know as well as I do I had a suspension maybe 7 or 8 years ago for 3 days for sending you a private message telling you where to find me at Monmore to discuss differences and sadly you ran to admin and that was that, and here you are close to a decade on doing the same rubbish on most threads I might as well pop this in here as to save you a carrier pigeon to admin ok son2 points

So Poole’s Chris Harris could guest for Hans Andersen against Poole?? Heats 4,13 and 15 could be interesting when he rides in the white and red helmet colours...if his left leg crosses the line first he scores for Leicester and if his right leg crosses the line first he scores for Poole2 points

Can have a guest for a missing No.1 whatever the reason... but I don't think either of the missing riders are the No.1 are they? From No.2 - 5 it has to be R/R first and then a guest(s) if two or more are missing. (However you can have a guest if a missing 2-5 is missing because they have a clash of bookings in the Premiership or Championship).2 points

What part of "We're not going there without Stevie Worrall" don't you understand Rob?2 points

And if you remember rightly, back in the early 70's we had 18+ side s in the top league. Now, in those days if you had for example Ivan Mauger Ole Olsen Anders michenek Barry Briggs coming to your home meeting you have to go, otherwise you will not see them for the rest of the season unless they ride in an open meeting ie in our case the Blue Riband. Nowadays you miss the top boys, whats left of them and you think, oh well, they will be back in 4 weeks. We need tro get back to the above, but we also need to keep the play off's. We also need a fair team building average, and all teams have to use either 1-2 wobblers. they also still needs to be an academy league ran by Vatch and co. We still need to bring the kids on and make our own top riders of the future. Thing is, if they get good enough Poland will want to poach them, how do you stop that. IMO they choose one or the other.. Times have changed, and we have to change with it.. We should still have a british final, and the winner goes to Cardiff as a wlid card. But other than that they have to make choises, we carry no passengers anymore, clubs cannot afford to.. First things first, we need to get shot of that person at the top of the management comittee..2 points

The continuing irrational and wholly unnecessary negativity of some fans is doing the same.2 points

How has it been a stop start season? Aside from one rained off meeting (there were six last year) there have been just two Thursdays without a home meeting this season. Plus one Thursday when we were away at Ipswich. And the “gaps” in the schedule were there to accommodate more rained off meetings and progression in the Cup and shield. Had we progressed further in these competitions there wouldn’t have been enough free Thursdays.2 points

Sadly I think it will happen, quite possibly the last nail required to ensure that coffin is finally sealed shut with yet more supporters turning their back on the sport.2 points

Same with the Play-Off Final... do they charge extra for those matches. Surely if they had fans in mind, they'd set up some kind of loyalty system in which actually attending all the dross served up in the actual league programme to get to the POs. Surely attending every home match of the 18 or so league fixture warrants some form of loyalty payback, not pumping admission up for the semis and final. As for promoters and their famous "If you don't like it" retort. I have just been looking at some watches online. Some of the feedback was quite straight to the point and not very nice really. But they received a nice reply thanking them for their feedback and that they take it into consideration. Not "If you don't like the watch, don't buy from us again." There comes a point in most fans' experiences where they feel the sport or the club has taken the pee just one time too much. It's a build up of various things. This may get people's backs up, but I really wish speedway would fail to the point that all this talk of having to do something to save it actually comes to something. Talk is fine at the winter congress, the promise of a radical new approach. And then we have memories of Swindon v Leicester from last Monday....2 points

...the difference, of course. being is that I only engage with areas of new technology that I find useful rather than allowing technology to dictate which often involves having to spend hundreds of pounds on something that you may never use, or indeed, require but it's all about "Keeping up with the Jones" Thankfully I'm above all of that. It was interesting to see that books sales are up depite the advent of kindle which many 'experts' envisaged would bring about the demise of books....and I have hundreds of books which I consult.2 points

IF that's true, they're even bigger morons than I gave them credit for. What decent businessman buys a business without doing the relevant checks on what he is actually buying? Surely he has to know the state of it to reflect the value of what he is spending. That just makes them look even more incompetent than what they have been made to look over the last few months or more already.2 points

I thought the programme was about the only thing promoters could guarantee making a profit on, hence (up to this season) being very reluctant to let us know the actual riding order so we could print our own? Personally I'd rather just take a blank programme I've printed and fill the team in before the racing starts or during tractor breaks rather than buy a programme that I'm going to throw away as soon as I get home. I have actually done this when promoters have insisted on listing the team in alphabetical order just to be awkward because I can be just as awkward and won't be forced into buying something I don't want to.2 points

Hans will be at Leicester as UK have priority on Monday night and DMU have issued his start permission for UK so if rides in Poland will likely get a ban in both UK and Denmark Josh G is a different matter as he is riding on a Polish license but as others have said RR could work well for Poole2 points
