Come on folks...this is the best Comets team I've supported in my 10 years coming to Speedway, these lads are still in with a shout on the League Title, KOC and Championship Shield , they need our support if nothing else ...we can't give up now and let the Mighty Powers that be (that thing called bspa) ruin what should have been our best season for a lot of years !!! Its been a tough few months for the promotion , every hurdle threw in their way and they must be sick as parrots...but they haven't give in yet and nor should we , the season is far from over we just need to get in them play-offs and with a bit of lady luck for once, be in with a chance of bringing some Silverware back to DP for Laura and Tony after the crap they have had to endure lately Support !! Support !! Support !!11 points

Of course it makes a difference. It's not about the points being scored, it's about the credibility of the situation.6 points

I too thought it was sawdust but it was limestone dust which does a similar job. The riders should be ashamed of themselves at not trying the track after all the efforts.5 points
-
And do you blame him? After the amount of emptyheads you get on Poole threads calling him out when they lose, he has every right to tbh! nice to see that Darren Cooks been rather quiet lately!4 points
-
Well it was blindingly obvious to most in the stadium that the main instigator of the postponement was a certain GP rider (and I use the term loosely) who was waving his arms about while kicking the track . He obviously was doing his best to persuade others not to ride either . I'm sorry but my personal opinion of him gets lower by the minute !4 points

I thought that was really poor from the captains to refuse to ride without turning a wheel. The weather was set fair and the track looked as if it had a chance of being OK. I've never ridden a speedway bike but Louis, an ex rider clearly stated that he thought the track was raceable and was clearly very annoyed at the decision. Schlein was never going to fancy it but Glasgow never got changed and at no point looked to have any interest in entertaining the paying public. To at least not try was poor.4 points
-
Louis may have his critics but he sounded genuinely gutted! The captains didn't even have the balls to explain to the crowd why! In the old days someone would have gone out and done a few laps or we would have had 3 or 4 heats to test the track. I've seen much worse in my time just another example of too much rider power. Glasgow didn't ever seem like they even thought about giving it ago never even got changed.4 points

Or maybe another way of looking at it.... If British Speedway had just stuck with its allocated (and agreed to), Monday and Thursday nights, you could have had as many Danes riding over here as you wished, and that could have been ANY or EVERY week you wanted a fixture planned in, without any clashes.... Only British Speedway could have done what they did with fixed nights...4 points
-
The good thing to come out of it, is that he won't be lining up with three other riders for the foreseeable future.4 points
-
Harris not necessarily lying, Lawson might well have said he would have ridden, although he might not have wanted to. Agree riders are now more reluctant to ride in adverse conditions, but imo this is because today's machines are faster than before and are more difficult to control on less than perfect track surfaces.3 points

Got to feel sorry for Chris Louis and all the track men tonight all that hard work for nothing. He did everything the riders asked and then they still refuse to ride. When they interviewed Tai at the Grand Prix Saturday he said we as riders can ride wet tracks but not when it's raining. So what happened today. Cook rode Saturday, but threw his dummy out again tonight. The Glasgow riders looked like they never had any intention to ride and if we had a different Captain than Rory it might have gone on. They should've sent one rider out from each team to try the track, to not even give it a go is a disgrace. The two Captains obviously don't give two s**** about the fans who pay their wages as I've never seen them move so fast running back into the pits when asked to explain themselves on the mic.3 points

What is going to get through to these so called riders. The fans have had enough and if these riders cannot control a bike in various conditions thrown at them then give up and find another way of earning a living. No respect, for those who are bringing the sport to its knees. Riders, promoters (with few exceptions) deserve each other. Soon you will be racing in front of no one having pissed off the loyal fans who foolishly stuck with it for far too long. To the riders and promoters I say you all owe the fans big time.3 points

It is crazy to have a Grand Prix rider unable to ride in the top flight because he is riding the in Second Division. It's time for this stupidity to stop. Of course, supporters of Glasgow will probably call this Division One snobbery, but even they have to see the ridiculous of the situation here, surely. However, with the rules as they are, the decision should clearly be based on when this fixture was arranged and when he signed for Glasgow. Nobody seems clear which was first. But he should never have been allowed to sign for Glasgow in the first place.3 points

Garry May made the point last night that if any track is like NSS, its Somerset. He's right. However poor Cook was at Leicester, he was just sublime last night. Not once did he enter the first turn in front and to pick off the likes of Doyle and Holder on their own track had him at his very best (the only criticism I would make was that he could have been a bit more ruthless (as Doyle was)). You could tell from his after meeting interview he was pleased, both with his own performance and that of the team. Whatever the case, it was a cracking meeting in front of a very decent crowd with credit going to both teams and Somerset Speedway.3 points

Really disappointed the match was postponed. I really hate rain offs and even more annoying in view of the great weather weve had for once throughout the UK. However a bit surprised by some of the comments on here saying that in the good old days riders would have given it a go. in the good old days bikes were diferent and it seems that modern bikes and therefore modern riders can't cope with wet or heavy conditions. Fans also complain that the sport is ftg in most races. Well one thing is for sure in wet conditions it would become a gaters paradise. do fans really want to see a boring match in poor conditions? as someone else said this is about getting meetings completed before the play-offs when it should be about entertaining the public.2 points

It has always been a case of their body on the line. Don’t disagree on that but these are suppose to be professional riders who should adapt to conditions. Anything less than perfect (and that is a personal preference) then one or two more influential individuals can sway things for a who.e team. However if they know that they are not going to get paid they may consider the options. Maybe the pay structure is wrong but with a crap season, poor fixtures fans drifting away in droves you would think that some riders who apparently depend on a living from speedway might think of the bigger picture. Let’s see how many clubs survive into 2019 with whatever daft revamp the BSPA have come up with. The powers that be have lost the plot and the riders think they are bigger than the sport itself. Both deserve each other but few deserve the loyal support of the fans2 points
-
Another nail in the coffin of speedway. CL has been a rider who you have the utmost respect and today’s clan of whimps should learn a thing or two about adapting to conditions and giving it a try. If after a few heats the track does not improve then fine but frankly what you have now is the equivalent of fine weather fishermen. Time the fans boycotted meetings to show they have had enough. Today’s riders are so far removed from being men with skills and track craft that frankly they are killing off the sport @nd deserve to be out of work.2 points

Wayhay! You can blame DC2 for all the crap he threw our way earlier this season. What goes around comes around and he who laughs last laughs longest. The funniest bit is a Poole rider stuffing the Robins in heat 13 to give Belle Vue the win. Hey DC2, cheer up, you might still make the playoffs and meet us in the semis. I see it made real sense to show faith in your 1-7 and not make changes. Well done to the Robins management for that one.2 points

Well the events at Ipswich tonight just goes to show that this sport is too controlled by the riders and is surely gonna die!2 points

Cook not riding at swindon tonight just shows how stupid some rules are any wonder people turning there backs on this sport !2 points

The Cook situation tonight really highlights everything wrong with the way our sport is run. Never in a million years would the general public believe that a second division club can have priority over a top league club. Cook has only been riding in the second division for 5 mins, yet BV has to use a guest, and you wonder why the sport is looked upon so badly...2 points

£27 seems reasonable to me, first meeting full price of £18 with the second at half price. Don’t suppose the riders are riding the second meeting for half price points money.......didn’t think so. Many people on this forum have often said that nearly all clubs are losing money and then when we charge half price it’s to much, sometimes I think the stars promotion must think “why do we bother”.2 points

So, how many 20/20 matches have you been to? What cricket did, and many other sports for that matter, realised that this is a new age and that you need to move with the times. I went to Bristol last Thursday to watch Gloucester v Middlesex (I would have been there tonight had the Swindon match not been re-arranged) as there was no speedway and saw best part of 400 runs. Ball smacked around, clearing the ropes, a century scored and people generally having a good time. There was a fair number of children in the crowd and enjoying the experience. The local radio station were there and offered a sofa to watch the cricket from inside the hoardings. Each innings is 1 hour 15 minutes, and if you don't adhere to the rules, you are penalised 5 runs for every over not bowled in the time frame. Music was a mix of modern and old songs, most of which were mentioned by a previous poster and created a loud and excited crowd, all played out in a vastly improved stadia. No drunken idiots spoiling the game for anyone. Now lets compare that with speedway (I will use Swindon as I frequent there). Music from the 70's and 80's. Tractor racing every 2 or 3 heats. Poor track preparation resulting in a less than exciting match. Rules applied inconsistently by referees from week to week. Hardly any children in attendance and full of people ready for God's waiting room. No media interest, apart from a couple of paragraphs in the local paper. All played out in a stadium that is outdated for the needs of the event. THAT IS A SNORE FEST. Your entitled to your opinion, however, your opinion about cricket is no different to the vast majority of people saying 'speedway - first out of the gate wins'!2 points

Hottest, driest Summer for decades, there is no excuse, except for gross incompetence, for any team not to have completed their home fixtures on time.2 points

The track is normally brilliant after some heavy rain. Looking forward to seeing some live speedway2 points

Big hit on the attendance tonight.....at least we might get a programme this week2 points

These were just five fixtures in the Premiership from the 8th August to Monday 13th 8th - Kings Lynn v Belle Vue / Swindon v Leicester 9th - Poole v Leicester 13th - Leicester v Belle Vue / Poole v Somerset And yet Still outstanding from A fixtures based on SS are the following KL v Leicester / KL v Wolverhampton / Swindon v Belle Vue The B fixtures still to be run Belle Vue have five fixture (after taking into account Somerset yesterday) ( 3 home 2 away) KL have six (3 home and 3 away) Leicester have four (2 home and 2 away) Poole have six (3 home and 3 away) Somerset have seven (4 home 3 away) Swindon have three (2 home 1 away) Wolverhampton have seven (3 home 4 away) You have to question why by the third week of August so many fixtures are still to be run when there have been so many blank dates throughout most weeks since May and with some A fixtures still to be completed, it is a farce. Set cut off dates and that is it. The clubs really need to organise themselves better.2 points

Why is cricket a snore fest .because you think so ? 20 -20 is one of the most exciting sports there is and as well as people enjoying a drink there are hugh a.amount fans who are families having a day or night out .one of the worst thing about this topics is clueless idiots trying to make other excuses why other sports are doing well just because they dont like or dont understand them .if you asked any sports fan worth there salt if 20 -20 was a snooze fest they would laugh you out of town .2 points

Was in Tesco's yesterday and noticed these on the end of the aisle.. Maybe the BSPA could see if they are interested in sponsoring the league?2 points

Probably why fans have deserted league speedway in droves. Riders turning out for different teams.2 points

You will need to win tonight to have a chance of sneaking in to the play offs in my opinion. Poole is a long way from a gate and go track .2 points
-
Great effort from the lads last night and should we sneak into the play offs a final with the two teams would be a mouth watering event over the two legs. If we do sneak in and end up with Poole then as Monday showed we just can’t do it on the gate and go circuits, so it would be heartache again for the (R)ACES.2 points

On what date was it rearranged? Its a real shame for Belle Vue to lose their racenight when other clubs get to keep theirs through “special dispensation”. It’s even more galling that when we go there WE are the ones forced to miss riders. Still it’s only Belle Vue.2 points

Pot, kettle, I don't think you have any room to talk considering the state of Wimborne Road's track2 points

Perhaps if we had stuck to Monday and Thursday this problem may not have arisen ?2 points

Looked to be a good night for Josh Embleton last night for the Brummies, paid 7. Well done.2 points

If they attempted a war cry nowadays the echo of an empty stadium would come back and smack them in the face.2 points

We need a few more like u taylorj, have said all season this is a "team" not a superstar with backup but 7 guys who can do the job , how i wish the folk of cumbria would come and watch on sat nights and i had a diff job so i could get everyweek .2 points

I could just lie and say it was a typo but let's just say for more than one reason that's my opinion of him.2 points

It really is ludicrous that the rules dictate that Cook rides for Glasgow, who he only signed for a few weeks ago. We have to hope that Kurtz puts in one of his good performances and not a repeat of his form last Monday. The other factor will be the track. Somerset is a race track, which allowed our riders to race and pass whereas reports indicate that Swindon has been poor with processional racing.2 points

When I started as a marshal/raker/helmet colour retriever/ropeman/bike retriever at old Leicester, the track was tractored and raked back after every race, Inc the 2nd half races.. The meetings were still completed before 10pm, and then the raw novices were let on...... Don't get why meetings take so long now, with no true second half, and grading only 4, maybe 5 times per night....... Go figure?2 points

And the fault of that lays with the promotion. King's Lynn knew when they came out the AGM fixed race night were to be Monday and Wednesday's. At the end of the AGM we only had Jorgensen signed. The signing of Iversen was up in the air as he wasn't sure of a British League return. By mid December the club had their 2-7 chosen, our popular No1 was still uncertain. As we entered the new year Iversen puts pen to paper, so that 3 Dane's signed knowing Denmark takes priority on Wednesday's. Initially we had 3 Dane's so we knew racing Wednesday's could be problematic enough. Then Rose left and we employed Palm Toft adding to the issue. Now further into the season we're running a double header because rider's ain't available on Wednesday's. Fixed race night's HAVE NOT caused the problem. Having Dane's in the team knowing full well Denmark has priority IS THE PROBLEM, i.e. no fixture tonight. The blame is firmly at the door of the management and not the Championship clubs because they wanted to keep Thursday's. Going OFF race night also doesn't seem to be a problem for other clubs to try and fulfill their fixtures but we can't seem to be able to manage that option either. To now hear we're being awkward to other teams for our away fixtures is nothing short of appalling. The club IS being run appallingly and the issues we're running in to are all the club's management's own doing. The blame cannot be placed elsewhere. The whole atmosphere had been very positive for a couple of months then the same problems rear their ugely head again. Not just British Speedway but King's Lynn as a club really do have some sorting out to do.2 points

I’m looking forward to the meetings. Needs must to get fixtures in by cut off. 2 meetings in 1 night for less than double price. Only 1 program, 1 drink, 1 fuel cost. It’s not the end of the world. They make up for it in reduced expenses.I hope they have a decent rider or 2 on stand by to learn from previous mistakes and I hope the riders are on board with it too. Fingers crossed 6 points.2 points

We have had a long dry summer. No reason to extend at all. Clubs could have planned better to fit fixtures in gefore panicking as time ran out. Think back to all those weeks when no fixtures were run. The playoff dates should not be moved imo. Clubs should simply plan their fixtures better.2 points

I'm sure every1 on Facebook already knows, but Jesse Mustonen is healing well. Spoke to him last sun at Varkaus and he was on good spirits. I remember the first SMS I got from the incident and the next two days later. No way I would have thought to see him walking and smiling last weekend. Sometimes the surprises are nice!1 point

Not this again. Is the suggestion that teams should have Brits in their team despite their being better options from overseas?1 point
