  2. Since the days of Lou Sansom and Mal Mackay the Comets faithful have been waiting on a seven man team success . Now they're like buses . Well done to the 2018 Comets , a wonderful and well deserved achievement.

  3. Well done Workington and all concerned. Great for Tony Jackson in particular who has been with Comets since the early days I think. One of the unsung heroes of the sport.

  4. Lovely to have the live online radio coverage. Such a shame that the Hammers are putting in their worst performance of the entire season. Congratulations to the Comets. A great team and some great fans. Let's hope and pray that both sides are back at the tapes next season.

  5. What a place !! Awful viewing , awful track ,that monstrosity in the middle of it and more life in my little finger than the crowd last night , no atmosphere whatsoever for a grand final . Should have been called at heat 11, that ref needs to get herself on a Speedway bike see if she could have rode it 10point lead tonight for the Hammers ...is it enough ?? Mmmmm

  6. Decent facilities, clean toilets and a well prepared track for the riders to race on. None of these were on offer during lakeside's stint at Rye. I will still go, because I'm too old to change, but the sport has no chance of attracting a new fan base, to replace the present generation.

  7. Those currently at the top of the BSPA must be removed at the AGM They have presided over the worst unorganised season in living memory..More of the same next season could put the final nail in the coffin of british speedway.....

  8. Congratulations Workington. Don’t know Laura but from what I have read she, and colleagues, have worked tirelessly to keep the club alive. Only just survived, then pre-season team selection negativity and reports of late payments, in addition to God screwing their fixture list. To then complete the double is an incredible achievement. Hope this success brings back those lost (Stoney) fans.

  18. After being at Rye House yesterday and witnessing how lack lustre it was there it really made me realise what a travesty it would be for us to lose Speedway in Workington The Workington Speedway Trust is still alive and kicking we can all be part of saving our Speedway . £500 can sound a lot but just think it could be 200 people putting £100 in, 100 people putting £200 , if we lose Speedway this time I fear it will never come back ..what an awful thought !!

  29. as marksman has said . workington were far quicker from the start and even had the home fans cheering and smelling victory before the apex of bends 1 and 2 . they were in command even at that stage of the race . as i see it , a track is a track and almost everyone is different , apart from the purpose built ones .. being around a rugby pitch has its drawback , but who cares . at this moment in time . we have speedway for another two meetings and then ,who knows . dont moan about how sticky the base is or the camber , adverse or what ever . salute the people who use their time and MONEY to put on a show for everybody around the u.k.

  31. The sad thing is that when Rye won the league in 2005 and 2007 the place was rocking. Its never been very pretty but the viewing was good and although still a gaters track did produce good racing. Since the airfence went in its changed a lot and viewing is difficult. Track changes have taken away the technical element and it’s too flat out follow the leader.

  33. Think the reality is we will soon be a semi professional sport within the UK. Arguments going on behind the scenes not much agreement and these people are supposed to have the interest of the sport at heart. Sadly too many are only interested in their own club and little bubble around them. Too many ego’s in the room too, it’s no coincidence that we have ‘decent’ people leaving the sport because the old wood in the sport can’t see further than there nose. Take the Peterborough info now finally realised this week, how can someone who is investing in our sport and buying assets then be punished and lose out? Seems to be the same people within the top table doing more and more damage year in year out. The sport has been sold up the river in the last 10 years, the TV deal is an absolute joke and to think the money involved before to now! Make the sport simple and stop punishing winning teams, fans want to see more continuity with riders who they can connect with, not having to sack them because they were too successful.

  36. I pop in from time to time, just to check for anything interesting on Panthers-related threads. I very rarely look at other threads, and post on them even less. I spotted this "Panthers 2019" heading and - silly me! - thought it'd be worth a shufty. But what do I find? Same old inane dross, very little that's actually to do with Panthers, and juvenile posts by people like Jenga and THJ. One thinks his posts are highly amusing and entertaining (they're not) and whenever he's taken to task he hides behind the "it's just banter" excuse. The other comes across as an argumentative **** who mistakenly thinks he's a master of the put-down. No doubt he basks in a self-satisfied glow at his posts, thinking them to be very erudite. Oh dear, if only he knew how unintelligent and inarticulate he sounds At the mo, the only thing anybody can say about Panthers 2019 is that Ged has given us an assurance that Panthers will run next season whether he finds a suitable buyer or not. After the umpteen winters we've had worrying, let's just rejoice in that. The pick-a-team game can wait until after the AGM. In the meantime, I wish the annoying numpties would stay the f*ck out of Panthers' threads - but I guess there's as much chance of that happening as the SCB/BSPA running speedway properly!

  37. I am at a loss to understand how far downhill the sport has gone. Mildenhall cannot find enough riders for a meeting at Eastbourne and one wonders whether this has anything to do with the alleged rumours over financial condition of the club and the fact that it is supposedly up for sale. Perhaps riders are unsure about being properly remunerated. Here we are at the end of October and still unfinished business in two of the three leagues. In the upper echelons of the sport Mr May is whinging in the SS about comments on forums and claiming people don’t know all the facts. Well perhaps if he and his cohorts who run clubs were open, honest and stopped treating fans with such disdain and put the record straight rather than let speculation run riot then they would have no need to ‘blast off’ as he says. The comments on here and elsewhere manifest themselves primarily because none of you at the BSPA know fact from fiction and if it is so frustrating Mr May do something positive about it. You obviously read some of the comments, get some balls and respond. No one really slags off speedway just those that run it and some who participate or don’t as is the case with riders not bothered about meetings. Why don’t you all reflect on what a mess 2018 has been, admit it and then get your own house in order then you would find fans would have little criticism to make on a public forum, but alas for years you collectively have failed miserably. That Mr May is why people ‘blast off ‘ and will continue to do so as long as you treat the punter the way you do. If it is that bad, shut up shop and do something else, but as long as you involve the public you put your head above the parapet and have to be prepared to deal with the flack. Clearly you are having trouble with it. As the topic implies, it is a fixture shambles which is out of control and gets worse year on year and that sums the sport up as well, a shambles.

  38. Congratulations to all at Workington on winning the title, well deserved I'm chuffed for Laura and hope the town really gets behind the team and come out in force next season. I always enjoy my trips up there and have seen some great racing. The Comets are certainly the comeback Kings this season.

  43. STATEMENT FROM MILDENHALL SPEEDWAY - Statement from Mildenhall Speedway – Eastbourne v Mildenhall National League fixture Friday 26th October With the recent comments on social media and in some areas of the press concerning the Eastbourne v Mildenhall fixture which was cancelled on Friday, the club wish to make the following statement. The original National League fixture between the two clubs scheduled for 14th July was called off by the host club some 48 hours prior to the fixture date due to a football match! This act caused considerable costs to our travelling fan base who had booked a mini bus to travel to Eastbourne for this meeting and in some cases hotels. When we next visited Eastbourne on 21st October this fixture was in their programme as provisional, and that evening we advised Eastbourne we would be unable to confirm that date due to work commitments. We advised Eastbourne that we could most likely bring an acceptable team on the following Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday but were told this was not possible due to the fence being packed away, although the season does not end until Wednesday (it should be noted we have to put up and pack down our fence after most meetings!). The reasons for our unavailability on the 26th October was as follows, Danny Ayres and Jordan Jenkins had suffered season ending injuries, Ryan Kinsley and Josh Bailey who are both in full time employment at garages in Norfolk were unable to get time off work and Drew Kemp had college followed by a long standing event to attend for his contracted club Ipswich. Kevin Jolly contacted 27 riders in an attempt to put together a viable team but to no avail, riders were either working, packed up for the season or did not want the meeting. An official of the SCB also tried to help with the search for riders but he was unable to source suitable riders either. We would also question why Eastbourne are allowed to have three league fixtures outstanding after the Play Off final. It has been our understanding that a club should be offered three dates to choose from for a fixture, this has not been the case and we have been unable to obtain a satisfactory reason as to why this was not the case in this instance. It was not our intention to send a weakened team to this meeting and other dates were offered by us. It should be noted that at the annual meeting to discuss fixtures Mildenhall’s representatives put forward a strong case that fixtures should be more structured with the National trophy being completed by July, the KO Cup by August and the League (including playoffs) by the end of September. This was clearly ignored, and in all cases Mildenhall have been left awaiting their opposition in the season’s finals after completing their meetings in a timely manner. We are disappointed by the attacks on Mildenhall Speedway which have attempted to besmirch the clubs fine name and hope this statement clarifies the situation in a more considered manner.
