  1. I cant seem to find any worried people on here at all. Just decent Poole fans and fans of other clubs doing what we usually do at this time and have a guess/opinion what each teams 1-7 might be. Riders that certain fans might want back and others dont (quite clearly the Holder brothers divide opinion). Its called an adult debate................as i said cant see any people worrying on here. Check the other teams threads in all leagues , all fans doing the same, guessing the team and voicing an opinion

  3. Things were very different then......... and yes they were each rider had ONE bike in the pits. If that failed he would pay to use the "track spare" . riders would have their bike loaded onto a bike rack on the rear of their car, others had a bike trailer. riders would use the same bike season after season , not sell off all their gear every season and buy new. riders owned one crash helmet and put a different colour cover RED BLUE WHITE or YELLOW/BLACK riders owned one set of leathers and kept them for years. You can see why the riders costs have increased...... IMO things began to change when the late great Ivan Mauger came onto the scene with bikes located in every speedway country. "professionalism " came into speedway. Now it seems every rider from a National League reserve appears on a brand new bike with glitter guards and all the trimmings. They all expect speedway to provide them with full time employment.

  4. Well Ive been enjoying a well earned rest , not had internet connection, and anyway there has been nothing to talk about recently. Sadly you are wrong, I didn't congratulate you for winning the treble but I will congratulate the riders of Workington who rode extremely well and covered for the sad injury to young Dan. I hope there loyalty to the fans and the club has been suitably rewarded. Despite what you and THJ might think I am totally against cheque book speedway and that's what Ive been trying to say. The old guard suggest one thing prior to the conference and then change there mind at the conference resulting in deals getting torn up cos they move the goal posts - 7 instead of 6 man teams and 38 rather than 36 average. This then results in gazumping as riders with 5 point averages can hold out for more or as ive said on another post in the somerset thread riders can say they've been approached by Glasgow, even if they haven't, and suggest theyve been offered a better deal. The original club then either offers more or the rider accepts what was first offered by saying I've always wanted to stay, I love the track, I love the fans, etc etc. But feel free to ignore all of this as no doubt youll think I'm having a dig at you and all the others with chips on there shoulders

  5. Oh you've returned after keeping a low profile thanks for the congratulations on winning the """Treble"" this season Glasgow will resume normal service and start throwing cash at riders before too long, and reading between the lines from THJ have already started .

  6. Even if Glasgow do choose to pay riders more than other teams, (not that you provide any proof, right enough)......what difference does it make to what other teams pay THEIR riders? Ok, riders can ask for more based on what they hear Glasgow are paying, but that doesn't mean the other promoters have to pay. What are the riders going to do?....stop riding? What Glasgow decide to pay only affects THEIR seven riders and maybe does some team or teams out of a desired signing (or seven) It's business in the private sector. Wages can and do vary by large margins between different employers for people expected to do the same job.

  7. The thing you can buy the best riders on the league but it does not guarantee you anything who said worky would win 3 trophy’s with the team they had a good solid team from 1-7 with riders that will put something on there average will always win

  9. Chris Harris will be a decent signing and a heavy scorer at Championship level, lets just hope he can make ends meet.

  10. I think that good old Ty Proctor is one of the two new signings to be announced in a week. The shadow on the promo pic looks suspiciously like him on the right (it won’t let me attach photo)

  12. Rubbish. Matching the terms, but not affording the expensive add ons does not make the club rich.

  14. What's the 2 minute rule displayed on a clock, got anything to do with H & S. It's about pace of a meeting, and making sure the 2 minutes is administered fairly rather than be random as you quoted earlier.

  15. When that clock goes to zero ,you’re not ready to go you’re out no ifs no buts out ,works well in the GPs

  16. The distain and jealousy shown on here since the takeover at Glasgow has been present since 2015 and has started to gather pace, we even have a poster quoting how we allegedly do our business. Whilst you are 100% correct it will be ignored and the witchunt will continue from a certain few. Better letting them vent there bile and let them push there agenda they will continue regardless.

  17. Someone offers you a job at £x and you verbally agree terms . You go home and someone else phones you and offers you £x amount more . So you call the first one and say " sorry i've changed my mind " . I've done that in the past and so has thousands of other people , it happens , it's life . But to blame Glasgow for threatening the future existance of clubs and dangering the future of speedway as a whole is hysteria bordering on paranoia . If a club offers to pay a rider more money than another club will , then deal with it . The only future Glasgow is threatening is possibly it's own for the gamble of being a good payer .

  18. Yeah but Glasgow have literally put a statement up very recently about losing 100’s of thousands of pounds every year and how they can’t afford to do that anymore, yet are still going about the same way of poaching riders and paying far more than other teams for middle order riders. It’s not on because it is forcing all of the other clubs to stretch their budgets due to all the riders demanding that extra £5/10 per point that is un needed and is due to the fact they know how much others are getting paid. Wage caps and cutting out greedy engine tuners are a neccessity for this sport to survive and whilst their is not teams like Glasgow will continue to ruin this good sport by making themselves and all of the other clubs go into financial ruin until they close down. I appreciate what the Facenna’s have done to the stadium and to the club but I do not appreciate what they have done to the sport at all. And yes I do know some of the figures of riders wages from a couple of years ago at Glasgow and no I am not sharing them but yes they are completely over the top and yes they are a lot more than other similar riders were getting at other clubs that year.

  19. I just can’t see ludvig back, not after last season. Defo seen a big shift in tolerance of ludvigs behaviour - called out with last minute choices not to ride and relinquishing the captaincy. Let alone only a 3.00 away average which even the biggest ludvig critic would admit is even low by his standards.......

  20. Well if Chris holder rides over here next season, it certainly narrows it down where he rides, i can think of 3 clubs he won't be riding for

  24. Well I for one is happy with our retained top end. I think most teams will have a weak tail end given the 38 point limit. It just means our young Aussie will have a steep learning curve and needs to get into the points quickly- a big ask but he comes well recommended by current and ex Scorpions.

  26. I think that's the point - Teams who are pleading poverty are now offering better terms than Somerset were prepared to. It seems Charles Wright has gone for the greater deal and is hoping the grass is greener on the other side.

  28. I hope we don’t put Drew under pressure to be expected to score big point not too long ago J P B was going to be next best thing and that went pear shape. Hopefully Drew will have a better team round him and is given time to develop. We need someone at reserve with him to take pressure off

  29. Really see the whole point here is you see one point of the argument and react to it as gospel, and to be honest on a fans forum is hardly the place to air it. But you believe what you want dont think anyone will lose sleep over it. And if you resesrched you will find our major sponsors are paying sining on fees so a large outlay saved, see research it is a wonderful tool.

  30. If it means the return of a real No1 in Doyle those "paltry" 2.5% average reduction means the team you can put together works out about half a point better off. Effectively getting Doyle on a 9. Or another way, rider's almost guaranteed to improve their averages. It's a winning formula that needs to be look at, not discarded. Morris, Ellis, Wajtknecht and Nielsen should all be considered. 1. Doyle 9.57 2. Wright 5.14 3. Musielak 6.65 4. Ellis 6.33 5. Morris 6.74 6. Wajtknecht 4.22 7. Nielsen 3.58 Ave: 42.23 Strength in depth all the way through that team with an exceptional No1

  31. I'm no fan of Buster Chapman. I think his chairmanship of the BSPA has done nothing to stop the ever decreasing crowd levels, failed to improve the credibility of the sport and the integrity of the application of the rules and even failed to implement his initial promises of openness, transparency and a new rule book. I favour a 2 league structure as the only way to enable the sport to live within its means and to build a solid base from which it can then grow. However, given a 3 league structure, I agree that he deserves a lot of credit for his actions in ensuring that there is a viable top league. He has put his money where his mouth is and that shows faith and a commitment to make it work.

  33. And I think when you look at the riders that provided the bulk of the entertainment last year... Auty.. Allen and Garrity.. Then they are all there Also Important to put riders in who genuinely want to ride for the club.. Not club hoping mercenaries chasing dollar

  35. I think that's what's annoyed me a bit. There's a lot to be critical of where speedway is concerned but the colours of those who simply want to put the boot in have been shown all too clearly here. Buster Chapman has saved a team, a league and a TV contract and backed his actions and judgement with his own money. Surely that is a matter for credit rather than criticism and negative comment ?

  36. With many, including waytogo, that's just about impossible. Only interested in doom and gloom, and trying to tell others how to run speedway. FFS.

  37. I find the whole thing disappointing to be honest, why are we left completely in limbo of what the clubs plans are for 2019. I think a decision either way should have been made weeks ago to be honest, instead we have had no word. The AGM statement comes out and says 2 NL clubs have moved up, it happens to be on the Brummies website so my thought was that its not a matter of if but when its announced. Then today we hear that no decision has yet been made despite the championship agm finishing almost a week ago. What is going on? I will be at Perry Barr in 2019 no matter what league we race in but I hope its Championship. When you go to some away tracks and Cardiff people always say "Why is a club like Birmingham in the National League? its right, why are we?. We have a good track and good facilities in a good location with some great sponsors. After 2014 I was glad we raced again at any level but the club should be moving forward and looking to race in the second tier. Its a level we have raced at before, and I enjoyed so much the old premier league days of 2007 to 2010. It was a big mistake to move up to the EL, that clearly was a financial gamble too much. A move up to the championship is a big risk as well I dont disagree but I have every faith we can make it work. Theres some good people at this club. I am quite worried about what kind of National League there will be in 2019. What clubs will be running as in 2018 there seemed to be concerns with a few clubs. So bearing that in mind will there be a significant reduction in the points limit. Will admission prices stay £13 and the like if the points limit and quality on offer reduces? It will be hard to sell to the general public. My preference would be to increase points limit but that isnt suitable I know because its a struggle for some clubs. So if we stay in the NL I just pray points limit stays the same.

  38. Honestly bruv Paulco needn't worry after spending all weekend and some 100 plus texts sorting a contract out for a rider who finally agreed a deal on the Saturday night only to renege on the Sunday with a text obviously written out for him by a third party sums up a great deal of what this sport is about. Glasgow's woes are crocodile tears, I had genuine sympathy for the fans when the promotion put out the press release they did however it was utter "hydraulics" and if this jeopardises my application for my promoters ticket so be it however I am less than impressed with the way things are operating. I will hold my counsel for the present however there will be more to follow and the truth is stranger than fact or fiction, in fact you couldn't make it up and it actually threatens the existence of a club as a business, honestly... Regards THJ

  39. I’m not against riders earning a living but at this moment in time speedway can’t afford it. That is the simple economics of it, riders should be building up other business outside speedway anyway, Greg Hancock has business outside speedway so does richie worral and many others, it should be a priority but clearly with some it isn’t, in life just as in speedway you have to make it happen , it won’t come to you

  42. Surely it is every clubs right to conduct there business how they see fit not another teams fans business on how they want them to run it because it affects the signing of a rider they were after ? It happens in every sport FFS nobody can tell me that Workington or any other team for that matter have never gazumped another club over the decades on a signing. And why would Workington be bothered about us, it is up to Workington to do all they can to sign there targets and not down to Glasgow to back down from one just because another club is after him, it is the way it works and if the boot was on the other foot I am sure we would hear nothing more about it as we would just move on to our next target. It appears some at Workington have a bee in there bonnet about us why only they know, as for us we will go about our business the WAY WE SEE FIT it is not down to us to tread eggshells in case we upset someone.

  44. And you wonder why British Speedway is an international laughing stock? In Poland they knew 2 weeks ago which teams were in which league and which riders were in which team. They are only a matter of a couple of weeks away from announcing their fixtures, which typically are published mid-December. In Britain, we don't know if we're coming or going...literally. The Chapmanship has reduced down to 7 teams, Glasgow have given 12 months notice that they are folding, other teams are on the brink or have announced themselves to be up for sale, Cradley and Coventry are likely to be confined to the history books, and I've seen promoters up and down the country having "meet the fans evenings" to explain what's going on and to trawl around for new ideas because they don't have any of their own. I wish they would hurry up and announce what is happening at Birmingham, because I'm not hanging around for another year in the Post-Natal League. If we're not going Championship, then let me know soonest please, so that I can cut my emotional ties to this farce sport. After the mooting of a 30 point limit per team and the comical shenanigans in the NL last season, I'm not putting up with the NL again.

  49. Promoters know, it's not agree till it's all agreed. If they move early, and get caught out, so be it, but I find it hard to believe that a team that signs 3 or 4 riders can't refocus and still sign decent riders to make up to 7 instead of 6 riders. Always happened, and will always be that way. We lost a top heat leader about 2 years ago after he had done the deal, but within days he was contacted by a rich club with slightly higher terms, but with a great sign-on agreement. We agreed to match the terms, but could not deliver the sign-ons so off he went and lost his place sometime afterwards
