  1. Reasonably solid Newcastle side, and one or two names in that team who would not think of Newcastle type riders Of the last two riders. Not surprised to see Phillips name down on the team sheet with his old man one of the promoters at the club and he did a decent job when he was last there. Bjerre, good rider and kind be spectacular on his day, but is someone who is very difficult to manage and can be at times disruptive, if you can get him in the right fame of mind and happy he is capable of beating anyone, if not then you have problems and he will let you know.

  2. For someone that 'couldn't care less' you don't harf love repeating the same old stuff over and over..........and over and over!!

  3. Hmm... with the delay in announcing Jacob I was beginning to think he was on his way to bale out Ipswich. Should ensure a top seven finish for Wolves in 2019. Enjoy

  4. or ran into 2 sides decimated by injuries in the semi final and final and were able to use an illegal rider in the final.................depends what glasses you wear Obviously Poole cant help riding against sides that were severely weakened or be responsible for Kings Lynn allowing them to have Morris....teams just get lucky at the right time

  12. Shaping up as expected. No surprise at Jacob being announced as if he was really going anywhere else! Still looking to shape up as one of the strongest sides this year with 4 potential number ones. More than happy.

  13. He is now a employee of buster. He will do his best with the budget that buster has set. I believe he was wholly frustrated at the agm as he had listened to the fans who wanted more fixtures and regular weekly racing. And then when that was ignored he thought how can I run my business with just 15 paydays. And he simply had enough. Just my opinion. I would like to thank Chris and John for all they have done for the club. All good things must end. And we have had a great 30 years under their control

  14. Ipswich speedways greatest rider and one of Englands finest, John Louis was born in 1941 and had his first rides on a speedway bike at Foxhall in mid 1969, so he was just 28 I believe! I'm all for bringing on young riders, that has to be a main aspect of the National League but I disagree with putting a rider in the team just cause hes young. Also if riders like Jon Armstrong, Robert Ledwith are still quick enough then their experience can be invaluable to young riders!

  15. Jacob Thorssell it is then, with presumably Ashley Morris to follow at 7. More than happy with that side, Nick Morris and Luke Becker replacing Cameron Heeps and Nathan Greaves effectively. I think a good season ahead.

  16. I would ordinarily agree with you, however, Danny had a full season last year in a league with extremely strong reserves and wasn’t off the pace. This year the standard is an awful lot less, and seeing a lot of no7s and a few no6s that are NL standard, and most who are not out and out too dogs like Drew Kemp, I think Danny is definitely worth a shot, and if anything, a lot more experienced... i think it’s a big season for him this year, and one he needs to make inroads, but even putting a point on his average will be fantastic on the back of the injuries he suffered, but that would be the challenge I set him in this league. im more than happy with the team this year, a lot of opportunities if people click, but success is dependant on them clicking as it is with every team every year. hats off to the promotion team, what I would say is the new season fills me with excitement. New riders in the team, it will be fantastic to watch them all develop around brough, and defo far from the predictable “norm”.. bring on next season, well done Martin and george and thanks for giving us something a little different to wet the speedway appetite

  20. That both riders were out regardless of what the AGM decided. At least one of them was telling other people in October that he wouldn’t be in the 2019 team

  21. Richie rode ONE league match (v Wolves at home) at reserve scoring 8+2 and 4 play off matches (that don’t count towards averages) at reserve....The rest of the time he rode in the 1-5, putting in some useful scores, so not as though he rode at reserve all season as your post is hinting at!!

  22. Why wasn't Speedway included in SPOTY this year, people cry. And why should it? I didn't hear any references to Womens Rugby, Rugby 7s, Basketball, Ice Hockey, World Rally Championship, or any number of other sports that fans of those sports will be crying about, the same way that speedway fans cry about the lack of speedway. So why is speedway so special, other than it's "your" sport? I've not found the statistics for this year, but if Geraint Thomas (the winner) got as many votes this year as Andy Murray got in 2016, then that will amount to about 250,000. In 2016, Mo Farah, was in 5th place and still got over 50,000 votes. Now lets do some sums. There are 20 speedway teams in Britain, pulling in an aggregate of probably under 15,000 paying customers every week. That's how widespread interest in British Speedway is. Even on speedways big day out in the sun, at Cardiff, there are less people in the Principality Stadium, (and that includes the Foreign Legion of fans from Poland, Sweden Germany, etc), than there were voters for Mo Farah. Until the numbers for speedway improve, can you honestly blame the BBC for not taking it seriously? Let's get a reality check. Apart from the old faithful, nobody else cares about speedway in Britain any more.

  24. Steve you are right it’s not just about the riders and the points money it’s the cost of getting them here and rearranging flights , pay for mechanics and airport hotels. Some people think it’s just about points money if only . I can assure you that certain riders can cost more than heat leaders if you take into account the cost of getting them into your team colours .Losing the main team sponsor and a few other ones has made a major impact at Poole but I had a meeting with Matt this week about our sponsorship and he was still working hard on this season. Yes he has other plans for his future however to those who think he is disinterested in speedway this season I didn’t get that impression one iota. One good thing that I note is the viewing figures on but sport are up and that looks good for any new deal I would hope . There is another post on who will drop out I truly hope no one does we need as many top teams as we can staying in the league .

  29. Somerset Sheffield Edinburgh Berwick Think Berwick have a solid look about them and possibly the strongest 2 reserves in the league Redcar for me have a long tail and the top 3 arent in my eyes true number ones but we will see.

  30. Similar to other years where Belle Vue are the only team releasing heat leaders. Bigger picture and all that guys

  33. Agree 100% Every time the 'big league' gets in trouble, they lure clubs who were running successfully 'up' and put them to the sword.

  34. Ipswich. They won’t close mid season but this will be a one year disaster. Top clubs not releasing riders as per Hackney in 87. Poole Ipswich Berwick and Wimbledon in 91. And the one big league in 95/6 and Leicester in the last few seasons. Self interest by the top clubs is nothing new but the group is getting even smaller and without buster bailing them out with the purchase of two clubs it isn’t going to be long before the league is unsustainable. The championship has the blend right and the sooner we return the better.

  35. I'd have Matty at 2 with Victor and Nike at 3 and 4 (doesn't really matter which way round they are) and I'd also swap Max and Danny round too. Just personal opinion, of course. I think, in addition to being OK at home, for the most part, again this year, we should do better away from home than we have the past few seasons (that's not a dig at any riders we've had in the past, by the way!), so we might finish top 6.

  39. Another irrelevant, out of touch post from a cretin who doesn't watch the sport. Are you that lonely, sad, devoid of any other interest that you have to spend your days frequenting the forum of something you don't watch? You've concocted this fictional world where commenting that Tai Woffinden wasn't mentioned means that folk were watching the show solely to see if he was. Utter nonsense. Most, if not all, would be watching because they are interested in other sports too. It's not surprising you've come up with that theory though, it does tend to fit your modus operandi. Your ramblings about league speedway, which you have posted the same thing quite literally hundreds of times now, are also completely irrelevant in the context of this discussion. It was wrong of the BBC not to mention Woffinden as it was wrong for them not to mention all Britains other World Champions in the world of sport for 2018... in my opinion.

  43. I am not quite sure what that has to do with your continual - and utterly unvarying - criticism of speedway. Bewitcher, Tsunami (who I count as a very good friend) and I have crossed swords on this forum several times. They are, however, at least worth arguing with because they attend meetings and retain a passionate interest in modern day speedway. They, like me, recognise the many faults that the sport has and have been extremely critical on occasion. However, they also recognise that four blokes on bikes without brakes can be as good as its ever been - indeed, on occasion, its better. They give credit where credit is due. You don't. Period. By your own admission, you don't go, have no interest and wouldn't attend even if it was free. As such, Bewitcher's EastEnders post - in your case - is just about bang on.

  44. Armchair critic if something he admits to not watching. You really have to have a screw loose to do that. Anyway, not seen an episode of East Enders in 20 years but am off to a forum to slag it off.

  46. Gotta say, I feel Peterborough look one of the strongest teams so far! 3 decent heat leaders & both reserves will be potent (whichever 2 they are)!

  47. However much the powers that be insist on calling it a develpment league, it serves little purpose if all the new riders do is race against each other. They need a yardstick against which to measure their talent. Seniors provide this as long as teams are not loaded with them.

  49. WHAT , has that been leaked already ? you never can tell who is going to finish where . it has been mentioned many times before that workington done the treble with an un fancied team that the pundits gave no hope . but with a rookie @ reserve and a team of 6 point men cleaned up the major team silverware . sheff were tipped last year to do well and finished bottom and ended up spoon whittlers !

  50. If Tim Stone had not tragically died, Then I think Newport Speedway would still be operating. At the time if his death Tim had in place several projects to generate extra income for the stadium other than through speedway alone. What then happened with the Mallets, well that would be a good Speedway Star winter tale!
