  1. In the absence of Alpen, we will will be massive underdogs for this fixture. I just hope that we can pull together and sneak 3 points. Copyright: Steve Shovlar c/o Piaza Navona. Rome.

  2. But that would give us Thomsen, Aspgren and Loktaev instead of Zagar, Iversen and Doyle. Is that really the way to improve the GP series?

  3. Leads you to believe? Its a fact. And no, i am not a Poole supporter whatsoever . I just like to pass comment when people seem to slag off Poole for no reason , doesnt mean I support them. I dont think i could ever support a club that has Lisa Collette and Starman as fans to be honest .

  4. Of course current GP riders should be allowed in the Challenge. It’s only top 8 in the GPS that are guaranteed a place the next year. It’s up to those riders outside of this years 15 to prove themselves worthy of a spot next year, and that means beating those 9-15. If they can’t do that it means they really in position 16 and downward.

  5. Then perhaps it should be included in the next GP TV contract, as a service to the loyal followers of the sport. If we can have meaningless practice sessions televised (I know the cost is marginal with the cameras already there), there must be a way to provide the pictures and show one of the most significant individual meetings of the season outside the GP itself. One Sport can get their irrelevant meetings televised, even if in Britain we're supposed to be grateful to see more than a couple of races. As for those practice sessions, the hype is truly at desperation level and was beautifully punctured by Woffinden at the last GP. Practice timings work in a sport with grid positions or where timing is essential . Neither have ever been relevant in speedway, well unless you include 'fastest second' from the days of second half Rider of the Night events..... Yes it's good for the sport to get an extra hour. The interviews are the only point of interest to me. I'd rather have three hours of highly significant racing tonight, involving the only stats that matter in speedway, 3 for a win, 2 for second, 1 for third. EDIT: Secondary thought: Surely Dorna are there for FIM TV? They have been in the past so if that is still the case the question of finding someone to televise it would be academic. The FIM TV highlights package used to be sold to channels such as Motors TV, like their ice racing coverage. #;

  9. A) he earned his rightful place in the GP therefore yes, he can. B) you do realise why he's not been in the GPs this year right? Show some compassion.

  10. Either buster thinks we're all stupid or he just doesn't care what we think. It's the Peterborough fans I feel sorry for, The Panthers have been used as a sacrificial lamb all season. British Speedway is rapidly becoming a laughing stock under Busters control.

  11. Far too inconsistent from the gate. There is a reason he hasn’t had a permanent top flight spot for several years.

  13. Bit harsh, he was leading heat 4, when on the last lap, he locked up and came down. Cameron then hit Garrity's bike which acted as ramp to propel him through the air, a la Freddie Lindgren. into the air fence. It looked like CW might have smashed in to his own handlebars, and it was subsequently announced as resulting in apparently a possible broken rib. To be fair it was a simple fall by Garrity, and nothing reckless about Jason's riding, who immediately went over to apologise to Cam. Despite the scoreline, there was some decent racing, with Garrity inflicting Masters only defeat in the final race. Although Garrity's travel problems are a source of irritation and criticism, when he is on his game on the track, he is well worth watching.

  14. I totally agree. It seems a nonsense that those performing poorly in the GP can do so with the comfort of knowing that the back door is still ajar. No rider in the GP should be allowed in the GP challenge and should only be allowed in the following year if they cannot qualify on merit in the then current GP campaign. No wonder the sport is not taken seriously.

  16. But you don't know the why, where and how any more than me - so you can't assert 'he could have been there'. Anyway - would you lend Jason a bike............. :-)

  18. Hoping for: Fricke, Vaculik and Michelsen as the top 3, the only riders who could mix it at the top Level. Wouldn't mind: Lambert, Anders Thomsen, Bjerre or Niels Dear God no's: Pavlic, Ljung, Harris, Bellego

  19. Yes. It is the way forward for major events not covered by a TV deal. Take Sweden this year - PPV in use. 72 matches plus 10 play-offs over 5 months at about £16 per month. About £1 per match!

  25. Then no one in authority within British Speedway can ever moan about a lack of mainstream media coverage Neil.. Nor can they complain about a lack of blue chip company sponsorship for their teams and the league as a whole.. Imagine, for example, Tesco sponsoring the Panthers? Their brand will be linked to such nonsense that is allowed to pervade week in week out within Speedway and therefore could become damaged by its association.. Ultimately this means there is no way these major companies would get involved with something so devoid of any credibility in the context of a bona fide National Sporting Championship.. In fact it probably is good news to a large degree that it is constantly ignored by the wider media given its so open to ridicule. Imagine Poland running Speedway like this with the exposure they get every week? Believe me, it wouldn't get anywhere near the same wall to wall coverage, fan base or sponsorship from national companies if they did.. Two months of what we accept over here would see a collapse of their Leagues and crowds akin to the GB levels as TV companies and sponsors would drop it like a stone.. If you can't do something properly then probably best not to do it at all as, with all things, you are only as good as your weakest link.. And Speedway in the UK have more weak links due to its operating model than is good for the brand..

  28. Ostergaard, Becker, Morley, Agertoft. You’ve ‘never even heard of one of them’? • Peterborough stalwart for many years • 2019 Wolverhampton rider • 2018 Lakeside rider (did we race then at all last year?) • Agertoft as a CL reserve I accept may be off your radar. Given the timing of the rider withdrawals, and the other fixtures last night - what would you suggest? And no, postponement wasn’t an option.....

  29. The only Pole that I can think of that isn't in the series but can definitely be considered as in the top 16 in the World just now is Piotr Pawlicki. Unfortunately the PZM appeared to decided to punish the better riders, like Piotr, for standing up for rider safety earlier in the year, so he didn't get a chance in the qualifiers. Drabik is probably close to that level as well, but not quite there yet. He also missed out because of the PZM decisions this year. I've never been convinced that it's a good idea to hold a 1 off meeting to select qualifiers for the GP series, and holding them at rarely used venues that allow for very little racing is definitely a poor choice, so I agree with you there. However, I think you might be getting a bit confused about the venue for next weeks GP. At 314m, I think it's a bit of a stretch to call it a long track, and it definitely holds a few speedway meetings every year.

  30. Of course he can. He secured his place last year, so he can come back whenever he wants this year.

  32. No problems..I'm surprised you are kind of fighting their corner after the legacy you and Ged left got "tampered" with because of ulterior motives..I really can't wait for this season to end and hopefully someone comes in and rescues us from this hell and corruption.

  34. A tad late in my reply but many thanks to Rob C for the recommendation of somewhere to eat by the track --- we had a lovely carvery meal. As for the Belle Vue track -- WOW and double WOW!! What a fantastic venue providing great racing and entertainment (including the handbags!!). I'm so envious of all you Belle Vue supporters that you have such a great track. I so miss my racing at Brandon and I was reminded of this when attending your great venue. Dare I say this would be an ideal track for a future G.P ?

  44. The sport today is so different from that of the past. Back then the riders were involved with the team as much as the fans. There were more teams in our leagues and less riding abroad. Questing was used but for the few instead of the many we see nowadays... Today the riders are more like mercenaries earning a quick buck without a thought for the implications it might create. Even the most loyal will ride for the opposition if the chance arose... Even helping your arch rival to gain the points at your expense is not a consideration. It's best not to compare the past with the present. Yes, I understand the gigantic expense that riders must find, and those extra meetings are probably a godsend to the riders... But it does nothing for creating a team bond between Fans Riders and Promoters. A connection today, that is so obviously missing. We talk about the reasons why the fan base is perpetually dwindling, yet here we have a brilliant example why, but as usual nothing will change....
