I think its great that theres even one nation left where the team manager has some authority and balls to try and kerp the riders in line.5 points

I agree, this system is no good. As the meeting goes through the 20 programed heats you knew exactly who had scored what points last year. And every race counted. No opportunity for testing. Under the new system count back can matter, fans have to back track and you have to check how many points each position gets. I am not a fan.3 points

As some one in sport once said " you cannot be serious". Bomber Harris has long had his day and is far away from international level. Any Youngster in with Lambert & Bewley.3 points

Nicki P does the job for me. The switch worked out well for the extra value. Always helps when they score exactly on the points bets. Well done all.2 points

Why is Kemp and Palin picked ahead of Rowe? He did ok in Poland this year and Palin only really has NL experience so far.....faces fitting more?2 points

THIS continually sniping at Terry Russell is unworthy as without him there would have been no Sky deal in the first place. Anyone who does all the negotiating and brings in money is entitled to a cut. Many years ago a certain Michael Allison brought in considerable sponsorship for individual speedway events including the Wills Internationale. Do you think he did that for nothing. For the record Terry was not involved with the Eurosport deal for British speedway which should have started this year.2 points

Not really sure how to title this one! What I mean is what examples are there of meetings between two sides on the same track in the same season which have produced hugely opposite results. It came to mind when chatting to my Dad at the weekend, the conversation always turns to speedway and meetings we attended. He remembered from 1977 Belle Vue v Ipswich, KO Cup in early summer ending 59-19 to BV. The league match in September ended 26-52 (PC wasn't riding). Not quite so big a swing, the same two sides in 1984 league 55-23 to BV, six weeks later in the Cup Final 33-45 to Ipswich. So a 40 point loss turned into a 26 point win. Are there any better?1 point

As I see it every point counts in this seasons new system. The more points you get in heats 1-20 give you a better choice of gate in the semis. If you 5 ride points get you into semi1 then the better chance of first pick of gates for the final. Not much wrong with the point system this year, but there was not much wrong with the point system last year.1 point

Track staff done excellent job tonight. Bit of a contrast with the problems at Częstochowa this year Some of the camera work been a bit odd though1 point

Cashed out on Bjerre after seeing the state of the track. He usually doesn’t like a speedway track unless it’s a billiard table so bailing on that one. Pedersen under 10 now is where the money is at I reckon!1 point

Dunno how they would've done, but was really looking forward to see what they could have done. Hopefully these covid restrictions are kicked into touch for next year, but a won't be holding me breath. It was good to see Rob Lambert pick up the Euro Title this year, but its gonna be a big challenge to see if everyman and his dog can evolve into the new normal?1 point

People calling the Polish side a disgrace haven't seen any Polish speedway this year. On recent form even if every rider was available it'd be a toss up between Janowski and Wozniak to partner Zmarzlik. Wozniak finished 3rd in the Polish Championship behind the other two, in brilliant league form and completely deserves his chance in the SON. With Kubera, one of the world's best U21 riders too, theyve got every chance of winning.1 point

I did read an article the other day, that showed all of the crowd increases at non league clubs this season. It's a shame this increase in support doesn't encourage some clubs to return to printing their own programmes. I do download and print my own using Microsoft publisher, but i prefer the real thing.1 point

The second one of Tai or Lambert is ruled out we have no chance of winning. Glad we’ve given riders who can use the experience a chance rather than Cook or Bomber who will be outclassed anyway.1 point

I made the point before, where scoring should be 4 3 2 1 in the semi finals, to rewards the 4th placed rider for at least making the semis. In the final then points should be doubled to be 8 6 4 2. Again, rewarding the 4th placed rider for making the final but heavily rewarding the eventual winner. Similar to a few years ago where they had double points in the final. Every points scored in every heat then counts towards your total, with a maximum of 27 points on offer at each round. I haven't bothered working it out but would be interesting to see how that would of effected this years standings.1 point

I’m not losing interest ,but for the last couple of seasons I have started to have a”take or leave it “attitude towards the sport, due to various aspects( which have been well discussed on this forum). No Speedway this season that has probably not helped the situation.Have enjoyed watching Polish Speedway though, but It doesn’t beat watching live,it saves a lot of money though!!1 point

I can only comment on the information given, the original discussion was about the wearing of face masks at speedway events, the poster said they wouldn't go to Speedway while there were ANY restrictions in place because they felt like they were being put on the naughty step. They then went on to say they had their shopping delivered and didn't offer up any reason why they wouldn't do their own shopping to free up that slot for a vulnerable person. No conclusion was jumped to, In fact the discussion stopped... If they'd come back and said they were in the vulnerable category that's fair enough... That would have been the conclusion. Also, I don't know what Christianity has to do with anything? You can do the decent human thing without being a Christian1 point

It's been a number of years since I last attended a match at Rye House. I think the last match I went to was when I think we drew 45-45 after we had lost both reserves in a crash on the 4th bend in Heat 2, already running rider replacmenet and had Todd Kurtz guesting alongside Doyle, Morris and Grajczonek. Quite a few years ago now but I always thought Rye's stadium was one of the better speedway stadiums. Seating areas, decent food facility, good views... what or why is this major investment everybody keeps talking about?1 point

Just out of interest, after mentioning Peter Jackson's averages on another thread, I thought I'd just take a look at who topped the averages in the pre-War years (1933-1939). 1933: Jack Parker 10.33, 1934: Vic Huxley: 10.31, 1935: Bluey Wilkinson 10.57, 1936: Jack Parker 10.27, 1937: Jack Milne 11.09, 1938: Jack Milne 10.96, 1939: Cordy Milne 11.50 (The 1939 season was unfinished of course).1 point

What did Bill Shankly say, football is more in important than life or death. It certainly seems that way at premier league level. Grassroots football is a totally different sport. Very relaxed, without the win at all costs attitude of the professional game. It's been great for me, in these uncertain times.1 point

It is fun of course and I love doing it as much as anyone, but it really is an impossible job. The more time goes on the more older greats are forgotten. What the "greatest" really means for most people is the greatest you have experience of. How many these days would put Vic Huxley or Frank Arthur in their top 10? In fact, the only pre-War rider who even gets a mention these days is Tom Farndon and that's only me (and chunky!) What about Bluey Wilkinson, Eric Langton, the Milne Brothers, Lionel Van Praag and so on and so on? There is no-one around now who has any real knowledge of them at their peak, so no-one can really compare them. It's only with Jack Young and the Big Five we begin to get actual memories and, over time, those memories will fade too. "The Greatest" is a movable feast.1 point

Exactly. I consider Barry Thomas to be the greatest rider ever Tony Rickardsson would be number 1 for me for two reasons. He was a whisker away from winning 5 consecutive world titles, (ok technically he finished 3rd in 2000, but does anybody honestly believe that he wouldn't have won the final if Mark Loram hadn't got the second place he needed in the consolation final?) Secondly for his astonishing performance in the 2005 series. 6 wins, one 2nd and a 3rd from 9 rounds. In league racing however, it's got to be Hans Nielsen. He was just a points machine!1 point

Just a message to anyone at BSI towers. Have you seen the weather we are currently getting in the UK this October. Rain, wind , storms , single digit temperatures. At this time of year speedway tracks that are wet never dry out, the temperature does not allow it. By having an October SON at Belle Vue you risk having a mud bath at one of the sports great circuits. Please have a rethink and select a more favorable date earlier in the year.1 point

I do think when you are a supporter of a certain rider you could be blinkered , most of us are very guilty of that myself included more than anyone. My point is Falcace gave us all a great post he said some of us would consider, Rickardsson,Crump, Pedersen, Hancock in the top fifteen riders of all time.Myself personally only Ricko, Crump, would be considered in a top 10 after that all up to conjecture not that they were not good anough but over a test of time there are loads of great riders to consider.1 point

So, if you had eight riders on eight points, you would have to have two semi-finals and a final to decide the winner. That sounds like a really ridiculous way of deciding the winner of an individual meeting....oh, hang on a minute....1 point
-
A few on here would do well to remember that... Overall, there were a couple of cracking meetings, and a couple of good ones, plus perhaps the best race of all time (Heat 2 on Saturday), and plenty of other fantastic ones, and the championship not being decided until three heats from the end of the series. I think that is pretty good, myself. Given the circumstances, it was great!1 point

Delayed is certain. Unofficial reports says start at 21.00 Swedish time at the earliest based on what it looked like 1 hour ago. It's still raining and will probably do so for atleast another 30 minutes.1 point

He is class act on a bike, don’t think he goes out of his comfort zone these days but is still at the top end of the sport. Will earn a lot of money in the next few years in a Poland so can see him sticking around the sport.Trouble is injuries can be due to other outside influences. Most of his injuries This season were accidents that were caused by other riders.Glad to see his injuries are not too bad given the horrendous crash at the week end ,could have been a lot worse. Ps. Not his biggest fan, but recognise his ability.1 point

I guess this is a binary opinion. I would say exactly the same about last year's point system. But we're civilised folks, aren't we? We'll agree to disagree1 point

Sheffield won at Coatbridge (40-38) on April 6, 1973, and there were 9 different race winners. Interesting thing is that the first 8 heats provided 8 different winners! Top scorers for losing Tigers were McMillan (9), and Beat on and Sjosten (8), while the winning Tigers had Haley, Wilson, and Wyer all scoring 8. EDIT : I have yet to find a 13-heat match with 10 different race winners - but I have found one with 11! On September 21, 1976, Weymouth hosted a double-header, with the second match being the second leg of a challenge against Stoke. Wizards won 41-37. Five of the Wizards won a race, as did six Potters. Mike Sampson won three (the only rider to win more than one), and only Geoff Swindells, Martin Yeates, and Malcolm Shakespeare failed to win a race. The others were Chris Robins, Tim Nunan, Steve McDermott, Mick Newton, Mal Corradine, Robert Maxfield, Billy Spiers, Jim Brett, Les Collins, and Brian Leonard.1 point
