So why did you open with that statement? That looked pretty specific to me? Plus, it's a lie; ALWAYS "on his back"? As norbold stated, I was usually one of the first to jump in and help when John needed it. I often stated that John just needed to forget about posting stupid, contradictory, inflammatory, illegal, and insulting stuff, and everything would be fine. I stand by that still...4 points

People always knock Odsal's level of speedway fans but it's a vast stadium, you could put the fans of any British club in the stand & it wouldn't be full, no other speedway stadium has a capacity of nearly 23,000.3 points

Simon Wigg rode twice in the team with Bruce Penhall and five times (of the 15 matches) after the American retired in August. I don't think Wigg was used as Penhall's replacement and Cradley could only operate R/Re.2 points

The sign of a true competitor He has a point though, Andy Smith was a very raw 16 year old to be thrown into a cup final at the time.2 points

The four reserve rule was utilized at Belle Vue during 1982. Ian Thomas had been appointed team manager at Hyde Road during the year and introduced Rod Hunter and Bobby Beaton from his National League Newcastle team to the BV squad. I seem to recall Thomas signed Beaton for the Aces from recently defunct Hull so he could use him with Newcastle in the lower league on a bargain 7.50 average. Out-of-sorts Peter Ravn was the early casualty to make way for the reserves shake-up. Sixteen-year-old Andy Smith was also given a few appearances for the Aces. In fact, Hunter and Smith were called up for the second leg of October's Knock-Out Cup Final (vs. Cradley) to replace regulars Jimmy McMillan and Peter Carr. Both had endured a disappointing first leg the week before at Dudley Wood. McMillan was still miffed about being axed, almost 40 years later, when he recalled it in a recent Speedway Star interview.2 points

" My one big regret is falling out with Charles. I think it was 1982, it was when BL teams could name four reserves and use any two of them for any meeting. One of my four was Simon Wigg. It was near the end of the season...." Goes onto explain that Ochiltree wanted to know the team a week before so he could print extra programmes. Adams offered him six names but wasn't sure on the seventh. Ochiltree replies "It better not be Simon Wigg". Of course it was. I'll dig out my programmes to see if that can shed any light. I know Cradley had started the season with Joe Owen as number 8, Drury at 9 and Pullen at 10 and used a number of riders to cover injuries to Andy Reid at reserve - Wayne Jackson and Bill Barratt spring to mind.2 points

I find the threads about the not-so-great (and often forgotten) riders the most interesting of all - and heaven knows, there were enough of 'em in the 80's!2 points

What I miss are genuine speedway related themes that some posters regularly took the trouble to post.2 points

Well I made £16.80 profit today, not bad going considering I only put a couple £5 bets down on each meeting... Over the moon with my first proper days betting... And I owe most of it to Jakub Osyczka in Heat 8 for getting that point!! Very glad I held off on the £10 bet for Wroclaw to win by 14+ and I'd have been in a very different mood right about now I was very tempted to put it on at the time too, but thought no, just a few small ones for the first weekend... Hope everyone else had an enjoyable evening1 point

Wholeheartedly against Toruń Lambert is a mediocre rider.1 point

Great to see DB strutting his stuff in real style.1 point

I think its high time the management ended all this guessing game. Josh Mac seems the one reading between the lines. But agree Zaine Kennedy would be my choice. Either way I think both are capable of adding a couple of points to their start average. But now with heading into 4 weeks before tapes up I would expect riders to be arriving in the UK all being well. So I dont see the point of dragging this out ? We know its not going to be a 7+ rider so we may as well just make an announcement so we all know where we stand ?1 point

Rider of the match for me. Take Pedersens effort out that team tonight Grudziadz were pretty poor1 point

would think Zielona Gora win its just by how many may be close to around the 6-8 point mark for me , depends how the unpredictable Grudziadz riders go , If Dan has the machinery he was on back end of last season he should cover the 5 points got the ability for sure1 point
-
Thanks for the help Surely Zielona Gora are gonna win, they look bad but Grudziadz look terrible (Gonna be eating these words tonight) Krzysztof Kasprzak, Kenneth Bjerre and Przemyslaw Pawlicki are all hot and cold riders, brilliant one night and useless the next, so I can guarantee they'll be brilliant tonight, the night I've bet against them And Dan SHOULD get at least 5 points, based on his performance at Gorzow the other week, but he'll struggle no doubt because I've bet for him1 point

Yes, I was watching one last weekend, but it stopped streaming half way through one of the heats, so I use youtube first and if all else fails I shall watch one of the streams that R&R generously shares with us1 point

usually some good links R&R posts in the international section to watch nearly every meeting1 point

Ha ha! We did refuse to dismount the grassy bank as there was no obvious good reason for insisting that we did. We'd paid our money and the redeveloped London stadium had no outside raised terracing to stand on. A single, rather aggressive steward threatened to call the police without telling us why we had to move, so we waited it out............unfortunately the Met arrived and we were returned to Waterden Rd! I must say i was a bit hurt by Colin Pratt's behaviour as a Hackney Hawks fan.1 point

I thought I would clear this up by reading the 1982 Rulebook - how foolish was I think that would resolve the matter!!! On reading the 1982 rulebook D1.3(a) makes it clear each team must declare a named seven, elsewhere (for example C4) there are rules restricting the use of loanees. As always the rulebook is less than 100% clear (I can't find a clear statement on what replacements are allowed when a reserve should voluntarily absent themselves, B7 is probably the relevant sub-section) so it feels like Pete Adams was operating at the fringes of what was legal.1 point
-
Adams definitely quotes 1982. The context was that Charles Ochiltree contacted him a week prior to Cradley's visit to Brandon to find out which reserves would be riding. Adams said he declined to confirm and subsequently he and Ochiltree never spoke again. He mentions the use of Wigg, but as I recall he was only used following Penhall's departure and not as a replacement for one of the other reserves.1 point

Benji Compton stands as much chance of signing for us as Danny Phillips! Macdonald is not in same class as Jake, but not many riders available, and Rob will definitely not break the bank just yet.1 point

We're talking about British speedway, Steve; NOTHING should surprise you as far as rules - including people not even being made aware of the rules...1 point

Have to agree. By far my favourite threads are those on years gone by, reminiscing/debating about favourite speedway eras (80s for me) and the great- and not so great- riders from those times.1 point

The start of the Div 2 season has been delayed until May 3rd- the league are saying that this is the final delay to the season and the teams 4 postponed matches will all be ridden in May in midweek extra fixtures.1 point

Now it's a "Limited Company" maybe they will work collectively to purchase/rent land to build some tracks on? Especially in areas that are reliant on Greyhound racing to provide them with a track... 20 or so BSPL share holders sharing the initial start up costs for a new venture must be a better bet than just one promoter having to go it alone... If they can buy land outright then they will have a permanent asset and any promoter promoting at that track could pay rent to the organisation rather than a third party non Speedway landlord.. Rustic Speedway initially I am sure but longer term it must be mean a more certain future by having less reliance on non Speedway landlords..1 point

I think there must be more to your story, for the police to be involved. Bovver boots, rolled up Levi's 501 and Ben Sherman shirts spring to mind!1 point

This season(different from last) it’s only to replace a rider who has been certified as having Covid.1 point

I think these are good.. I've enjoyed most of them a lot.. The recent Jeremy Doncaster and Chris Louis one was very good... The only one I wasn't too keen on was Gary Havelock's really..... Lee says he's got Marvyn Cox lined up so that should be good.1 point

Has a whinge and then doesn't attend Very apt really1 point

Not from my view point. By contributing one is always open to criticism. The maxim is attack the post not the poster. We can all be guilty of building a picture up of someone that we never know if its accurate or a mis judgement. Jab #1 can hurt... but I still want Jab #2 PS: I like Marmite!1 point

And what's wrong with posting crap on here? There's crap posted on here everyday but you don't react to it,but you did with an 88 year old speedway enthusiast1 point

That's a shame OFF, always enjoyed your contributions, especially in the year's gone by topics.1 point

Newcastle have spotted a potential future problem and solved it, they may well now be weaker as a team, but it also gives CV who lets be honest has been a good servant to the sport in Britain a chance to either find another club, or base his season around riding within the EU which will no doubt make travel prospects a lot easier, ,Fairplay to the Redcar management for sticking with their team, over my years watching the sport one of the biggest gripes is too many team changes year on year1 point

Regardless of his talents on a speedway bike, for Speedway GB’s press office to eulogise a man who murdered his wife, then orphaned his children by killing himself is, in my opinion, the height of bad taste. And what sort of “kind wishes” are they expressing?1 point
