  1. It all boils down to the kit I think at the end of the day, the sooner it's slowed down and standardised the better imo.

  3. Just one of those night where things went wrong, no ones fault. Rider safety always takes precedence, which would also include the ref not being able to see because of the sun. The electrical fault was quickly solved and if it had happened on any other night would have caused only a short delay. I took a newbie and she fully enjoyed it, and she understood that it is a rare event for all those things to happen. I assume both teams agreed to run ht 10 to get a result. Redcar has an agreement with the Council to go over the curfew on the odd occasion. The racing we saw was good, and the track good. I hope the injured lads aren't too badly hurt.

  4. Bit of a hollow victory after seeing the crash Ulrich has had , best wishes to Ulrich he will be difficult to replace , hope his injury is not as bad as it appears and he is back with us soon.

  5. The worst rider to come over from Australia , according to the Monarchs , guests for the Tigers against the Monarchs tomorrow . So step forward Jye Etheridge , just a wee reminder to stick it up them , let's finish the job Tigers , this is our year

  6. Blobby usually starts the derby weekend pretty vocal. As the weekend unfolds it’s like a death in the family and goes into mourning , really miss his over confidence.

  8. Doh. Of course, you are right. Troy got his British passport last year and now has dual Nationality. I completely forgot about that. I guess it's definitely not Troy then

  9. We are very lucky at Redcar to have an excellent promotion and that’s why it’s a shame Jitendra is standing down at the end of the season.

  10. I think Jimmy Squibb also rode for Ipswich in the 60's. I didn't miss any of the New Cross home meetings in 1963 and although some visiting riders did get the better of him, Jimmy was generally in a class of his own around the "frying pan".

  11. There are many who feel the same I think, I bought a season pass two years ago for the first time ever, and re-newed at the start of last season. I then took the option of not taking a refund and let the season ticket roll over to this season. I am very un-decided at the minute about next year.

  12. I bought the season pass as early as xmas 2019, expecting there to be a full season in 2020. I thought, as I go to all the home meetings I'd save a few quid and help the club out at the same time. Very disappointed in what I've seen so far. A couple of the team aren't living up to what is expected. The only shining light has been Leon Flint and of course the NL side, Greg Blair in particular. Too much gate and go to make it entertaining. I shall think long and hard before purchasing a season pass for 2022 based on what I've seen this year. I'll just pick and choose meetings I attend.

  14. Not that Pijper will be a miss at a track like Eastbourne but it's very coincidental he's 'Injured' the same night his lad is in the World 250cc final in Germany I'm sure he wasn't too injured to travel to that

  16. Well… 2 weeks break… not much in the way of passing but the closeness of the meeting kept you interested! Our top 3 performed superbly… how nice to see us on the right end of results in heats 13/15 for a change! Excellent debut for Luke Crang and I will hold my hands up and say I didn’t expect him to be that race sharp! Greg as always was rubbish-e or bust… he’s got a funny set of gonads for sure with some of the moves he was trying tonight! Good to see him get up and walk away so quickly from what was quite an impactful crash in heat 13! I said at the start of the season that I believed Mildenhall would be the team We would slip up against… we didn’t thank the Lord and so remain top of the pile for the time being

  17. I was at the double header today at Trent Bridge. £14 for two matches with some decent cricket, resident DJ and live music throughout the day - there was a similarity with the speedway as the sound system in the Yu Energy Stand wasn't great At least it meant that I didn't hear too much of the modern day "music"! Certainly good VFM.

  19. Well that was the shock of the season.Leicester's 3 year unbeaten home record finally broken. A truly awesome result from the Pirates who were up for the fight from heat 1 throughto heat 15. Danyon Hume you are a star in the making. All 6 riders including guest James Wright gave their all. Now travelling home with a happy Mr Shovlar. Up the Pirates.

  21. Speedway / Grasstrack engines are designed to run on Methanol as, together with the heavy flywheels used,. it gives the best type of power delivery required for the sport, that is the explosive acceleration from a standing start with a single gear. They can run on petrol with a lot of modifications internally and to the timing and carburation, and quite a few Pre 65 Scramblers / MotoX riders use 2 valve Jawa engines. Engines designed to run on petrol can also be modified to run on Methanol, but many of the 1000cc Sidecar Grasstrack bikes using multi-cylinder Japanese road bike engines, although tuned, still use petrol.

  22. Time for Sedgmen to step up to the plate. He may be required to have 7 rides depending on circumstances and we are overdue a decent shift from him. Posting elsewhere that Nathan Greaves will be r/r which would give Kye Thomson as the rider above and the reserves extra rides. Lawson looked a reasonable rider on Friday, hopefully his dad tinkers with his engines between now and Sunday .

  24. Bit harsh on Summers, granted he hasn't started this season great but he normally rides our place pretty well. If the opportunity ever arose for us to sign him i'd snap him up straight away.

  25. I think that confirms the only people with that sort of disposable income are pensioners obviously the promoters have tagged on to this. We need to attract a younger clientele who can afford lower prices.

  26. I was always told this was about safety - methanol has much lower flammability than petrol. But it burns witha clear flame which when it does catch light makes it harder to spot. Methanol also has a high octane number allowing the use for high compression ratio engines as used in speedway. Conversely it is less enegy dense than petrol hence more fuel is needed and the "mpg figures" for a speedway bike are so poor. Indy carts used to use Methanol after a number ofpetrol fires , but now use ethanol fuel. I

  31. I raise you Richard Lawson. At the moment he GSA is 6.11. He is on fire this season for the Stars. His 2021 Prem average is 8.48. Being a Buster rider, i'm sure he will get a ride or two for the Panthers.

  32. Shambles of a meeting!! Problems with the electrics, then ref couldn’t see because of the sun!! Crashes and delays due to waiting for ambulance (obvs not Redcar’s fault). People walking out while awaiting for heat 10 which was ran after the curfew as they had obviously had enough, or was sick of hearing Roy talk rubbish in cheering on his new favourite team! Delay after delay and any new fans unfortunately will not return.

  35. Tbf, he was competing against the likes of Briggs and Olsen, who were pretty decent around hyde rd, and PC who shared the home track advantage. Maybe also Ivan had such focus on the world title, that he was not at his peak in the weeks after the "big one"

  39. I think Danyon has been doing very well. His 1st home meet was a 0 but since then he's scored 7+2 & 6, he's also scored well at the away tracks. And Ben has been just superb.

  40. I still feel bad for Trevor Redmond losing the 1961 Provincial Riders' Championship (60 years ago) as he was easily the best rider on view that night, but shed his chain on the last corner of the last bend of his last race while well in front. So I wouldn't feel so bad about something that happened as recently as a mere 49 years ago, TWK!

  42. Wow... what a fantastic night... 30 races.... completed... loved it.. absolutely loved it.... here is the meeting report by Rob Dyer. Wightlink Warriors Summer Speedway Spectacular Sees Appleton In Tasty Form The first of Wightlink Warriors Summer Spectacular meetings proved to be master class of track skill from former British Grasstrack Masters Champion Andrew Appleton (pictured) as he scorched to five impressive wins in front of an appreciative crowd at the Smallbrook Stadium in Ryde last night. The return of track sport to the Island was headlined by the first of three rounds of the Island Masters series - a grasstrack meeting on shale – and the twelve riders didn’t disappoint a very healthy crowd as they battled hard to reach the winner takes all Grand Final. On a night of nearly 30 races the Masters meeting also included a gripping six heat development meeting between the Wightlink Wizards and Weymouth Wildcats and a further six heats of races looking to the future and giving the youngster track time in front of an audience. Whilst former Reading and Oxford speedway star Appleton produced lightning starts to earn his wins he did have stern competition from Danish rider Jacob Buckhave and the two served up a terrific race in the Grand Final – indeed the three finals (C, B & A) certainly didn’t disappoint as all the riders gave their all right to the end. Also impressing were Tony Atkin and Rob Fortune whilst Wightlink Warrior Chad Wirtzfeld found plenty of speed to clinch the B Final on the night. As to the Wightlink Wizards, their battle to tame the Wildcats went to the final bend of the final heat and for all the world it looked as if the home team were about to secure the 5-1 result that would have seen them take a win, however with Jamie Sealey well clear at the front, Wroxall based Morgan Williams appeared to tire on the final two corners and slide to the ground allowing two relieved Wildcats riders through for a drawn heat that clinched the meeting 17-19 in favour of the visitors. Mention also for the PeeWee and 125 cc riders who opened the evening and especially to Kye Elliott from St. Helens (IOW) who scored an impressive 7 points to take the ’Les and Lesley (Midland Fans)’ Junior Rider Of The Night award. Warriors’ co-owner Barry Bishop wore a big smile after the meeting as he said, “Wow. What a night 30 races, bags of action both on and off track, super crowd, magic finals. The night had almost everything Martin and I could have wanted and we were so close to complete perfection until Morgan’s slip in the Wizards meeting. I’ve got to say we have worked so hard for this night. We’ve had many battles and we have achieved what we set out do. That is provided affordable family entertainment in a safe and pleasant environment. Right now I’m just a bit speechless and completely shattered but tomorrow we’ll be back at it and I can’t for next Thursday when we can do it all again with the Wightlink Warriors”. Island Masters – Round 1 Result: C Final – Eric Pike, Dean Cutler, David Hollingsbee, Barry Coates B Final – Chad Wirtzfeld, Charley Powell, Mitch Godden, Nigel Coates A Final – Andrew Appleton, Jacob Buckhave, Tony Atkin, Rob Fortune Wightlink Wizards 17 (Jamie Sealey 8, Jamie Evans 6+1, Morgan Williams 3, Eli Meadows 0) Weymouth Wildcats 19 (Bailey Fellows 7+1, James Laker 5, Max Pankhurst 4+1, Sam Peters 3)

  44. Thanks for this Brian, your views on and experience of the planning process are welcomed and respected. We have until August 12th to object so we still have over three weeks to build that objection total. Having studied the actions of the two authorities (Lee Valley Park and East Herts District Council) our barrister is in the process of reporting this case to the Local Government Ombudsman. There have now been four planning applications, all retrospective, one of which was withdrawn after rejection by key consultees over flood risk and access concerns. You do begin to wonder what's going on. I rather think our barrister will find out. He's very interested in this case. We need those objections and we thank all that have objected so far. . The total last time was very impressive and could have a key role to play. We need to prove that there IS a future for speedway at Rye House, that there are strong economic considerations for retaining speedway in view of its attraction to the area of many from over the country. We always knew it was going to be a difficult fight but as you know the effort can pay off. There's something wrong and we aim to put it right! There are worse things to spend your spare time on......

  45. Interesting to read the comments re the track. Attended as a neutral. Thoroughly enjoyed the meeting. I have definitely seen better racing at Peterborough but still thought it was very watchable. A number of the races without passing were still very close. In addition, for there to be no dust on such a hot day was something that the track staff should be proud of. A few digs at Buster Chapman on here but I have also been to Kings Lynn this season and the racing was excellent.
