  1. Yes... its only glasgow who are allowed to bring in Aussies and kiwis on 2.00 averages so he will definitely be a 4.00er

  2. I think its really only one Poster is has said he would not have Adam back, and he is entitled to his or her opinion. I think they will be disappointed as reading between the lines Adam wants to be back and the club want him back as well. And I would say that the vast majority of fans want him back at Sheffield.

  3. Quite surprised with the stick Ellis is getting to be honest, a great racer and usually in the thick of the points, has also stated he wants a return to Sheffield for 2022. I'd be very happy if he was back with us.

  4. Not interested in what happens at Scunny. So for the record he fell 4 times in 88 races. Twice at Kings Lynn and Twice at Wolves (Same meeting). One of the falls at Kings Lynn was caused by the chain snapping. So only 3 falls caused by rider error. Would hardly describe him as a prolific faller.

  5. It seems to me that there are two, not necessarily linked, issues with regard to the Eastbourne fixtures. 1. The Eastbourne match results are logically removed from the league tables, no argument. 2. The points scored by riders in the Eastbourne fixtures should, in my opinion, stand for the purposes of calculating averages. Those rides were seriously contested at that time and represent the ability of those riders at that moment. Therefore they should contribute to averages going forward. For sure, it would make the calculation of all riders averages a damn sight simpler.

  6. Great arcticle by Liam Waite in the News and Star this morning, even made the front page headline. https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/19724272.workington-speedway-legend-steve-lawson-plans-return-sport-town/

  9. Okay... I for one love a multi-cultural society; I welcome diversity. However, while there is a constant push for diversity these days, it shouldn't be expected, and it certainly shouldn't be forced. There are just some things that attract certain races/nationalities/cultures/genders, and some that don't. We have to accept that.

  10. Yes....and the point is don't survey the existing crowds...that will tell us nothing. Or worse still pander to a shrinking group with less years in front of them to watch speedway. It's the people NOT attending speedway who are of more interest. How do we get more of them through the gate? I think we are at the stage where promotions like the Isle of Wight should be welcomed and given free rein to experiment with new formats...and properly pilot them. Oh, and please don't be offended on your age. I think we can all recognise that any sport who's fan demographic is 60+ has a problem.

  11. My initial question wasn't angry in its content. Just wondering why everything is CVS's fault. You do seem to have some backward logic, because Woves are managing to continue running, they are responsible for other tracks closing ? Odd. There is nothing to gain for Wolves, and everything to lose, by other tracks closing.

  25. As an Englishman living in the US, I get tired of being asked, "Are you Australian"?" Or Scottish? A few months ago, somebody said they'd met a Scot - and he sounded just like me! Then I have to explain that Wales is not a part of England. And that Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom and not Ireland.

  27. As Ellis had a good year for Sheffield, it will be difficult for him to up his average! That's the only reason not to bring him back, which is a fault of speedway - doing well so losing your team spot!

  34. Our best young talent will be hoovered up by new U24 Extraleague Legue and also D2 and D3 Clubs in Poland able to offer more than even best PL rates in UK. They'll attract best of Australian and European talent at all levels too. If Friday's are used more in addition to Saturday / Sunday it could marginalise UK League Speedway to Monday and Thursday in PL and an NDL level League on other nights. The only flip side is if Sweden continues to decline the UK Premier League could become to secondary option and bring in bigger CL Clubs like Glasgow; Leicester; Poole etc

  35. Anyone else feel the deafening silence, rumours of musielak and Oxford getting refused entry means we've gone to the "top" league? Hope I'm wrong, don't fancy Monday and Thursday nights at all, especially for away meetings

  36. I'm told most team managers don't get paid in the Championship, so that might be a small problem in finding a better "volunteer" @ Glasgow or elsewhere. Personally I would prefer to offer my services as to be a freelance mechanic (dope & oil monkey) @ £100 - £150 per night.

  37. Never thought id see those two names in the same post. Mulford is undoubtedly talented but has had loads of outside input to get him going on speedway and from a personal doesn't currently have the temprement required to get to the next level (lets mot forget this years NDL was flattering). Im happy to be proven wrong and ive certainly discredited riders in the past who have turned it all around.

  38. What an excellent post brilliant in fact. The dreadful promoters (CVS) and their sycophant hardcore supporters are running the sport into the ground. I'm not interested in watching some posy American with a dozen bikes and a bulging wallet. I want to watch some affordable racing with variety. The Anorak type supporter who knows nothing about the bikes covered in badges has always been around but is ruining speedway as they are acceptant of anything while propping up the despotic promoters. Bring on some variety please my brain needs it.

  41. It might be necessary to retitle this thread "Rye House 2023", or even 2022. A detailed proposal has today ben submitted to landlords Carter & Bailey that, if accepted, will see the Rye House track restored along with all facilities necessary to stage the sport. A Saturday night race day is proposed, with Sunday afternoons as the alternative. We have offered a realistic rent proposal. There has been a fundamental change in attitude by C&B, at least by part of it. IF the agreement is accepted......................the fight will be over. We could be on the brink of saving the Rye House Rockets. We have the requirements for track licencing from the SCB. We have the money to pay for the track reinstatement and air fence. All we need is for C&B to unite and accept the deal. No, I don't believe it either.

  43. To be honest, I think people trying to brush the use of said P word as no different to saying "Aussie" are just being deliberately obtuse. It's pretty clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that it's not just about a shortened version of the country where someone is from. It is also about context, and I think we all know that the context in which people are called such a thing is, in general, racist. That is why the term is seen as a racist term. Does that really need explaining? I'm not so sure it does to be honest. Saying it isn't is the same as saying it's not racist for people to throw bananas at black footballers because you wouldn't be offended if someone threw an apple at you.
    1 point
  44. Because Aussie isn't a racist term, whilst P**i clearly is and always has been used in derogatory and insulting manner in the UK (even if it didn't have these connations in Australia historically). I'm not sure why anyone is really trying to argue otherwise, whether it's said directly or otherwise. The Rafiq case is obviously complicated because he's angry about his failed career, there are possibly lifestyle factors involved there, and sports teams are full of immature laddish behaviour. I think he's being a bit unfair to Root for example, as he's not been accused of racism but probably made the wrong choice of words when trying to smooth things over. He'd also have been a young man in that environment, so it's actually to Root's credit if he wasn't part of it all. However, no-one should have to put up with idiotic comments in the workplace, especially of the sort attributed to Ballance, whether a first, second or third rate player. It's pathetic even if was intended to be banter. Of course Rafiq is not likely to complain whilst he's playing, and especially not in team with a culture like that, because he probably feared for his job. Not hard to understand.

  45. Yes, despite my personal ill-health I 'plough on' helping Steve Ribbons with what people like you described as a hopeless cause. We now are at the point of detailed negotiations with the new landlords. It does get irritating when those with no knowledge or genuine understanding of what is going on declare our efforts pointless "since speedway in the south east is dead". I think few would disagree with your actions being described as those of a fool. You consider my comments to be abusive. Let me tell you quite clearly they were extremely watered-down. When you are working well outside your comfort zone to save a team you have followed for 50 years, no you don't take kindly to foolish comments like yours. I'm trying to save the track I love. What are you up to apart from trying to pass yourself off as an all-knowing authority? Now drop the patronising "good old" and leave me and my colleagues to get on with a very comp[ex job. I'll ask again, do you really care for speedway or your own sad ego? A for Len, how can anyone know why Silver got out of Rye House? Neglected stadium needing repair beyond his resources, need to ease off the pressure and work with someone else's capital at Kent? Old age? The failing Silverski business? It's not the first time he's sold a track that others have managed to run, usually after finding the mess they'd bought. He is someone with an impeccable speedway record but his judgment is not infallible, especially in old age. It's still far greater than mine of course. All I am is a long-term supporter who was lucky enough to work with microphones not only for the Rockets but also on video and for a short while, cable and satellite TV. What an appalling thing I am doing to save the Rockets? Of course I deserve your fatuous critique. Now can I get on please? Some of us have work to do rather than sit on the sidelines trying to wreck what others are doing. Of course IF we fail you'll be able to boast how clever you were........... Sad, deeply sad. I do pity you.

  49. Adrian Smith will be another in quite a long line who have seen the sport from outside and thought "Wow! What potential".... So therefore, got involved, .. And, like others before him, would have gone into it thinking that all he had to do was highlight to the those already incumbent all the obvious inherent flaws that all can see hold the sport back in the UK... And then simply convince them that there are a great many alternative ways of moving this great sport forwards... However... Like so many others before him he has failed to take into account how insular and short term focused so many within the sport are, with many appearing to be "quite happy" with their lot as they hold 'some power'... Failing to grasp of course that they 'hold power' in a sport that hardly anyone has heard of, never mind cares about.. "Ideas People" are not wanted....
