I didn't see the comment in the light of 'I know something you don't'. I think it's fair for a rider to comment that there's others they'd be more concerned about on track without giving specific names. Are these things not linked though? As others have said, if it was a convicted felon going back into plumbing or mechanicing, no-one would care less. Speedway is neither important enough nor sufficiently in the public eye that there's any sort of reputational issue involved, and as much scumbag behaviour offends and appalls me, I think once you've done your time you should be able to resume a gainful working career unless the crime was related to your original employment (i.e. child abusers should never be allowed to work with children or vulnerable people).5 points

Why oh why did we not keep Claus. Be struggling if he wasn't here tonight4 points

Think saw an interview with cami the logic was 6 Brits with 2.5% reductions meant the side was built nearer 40 than 38. But I'm with everyone else Claus would've got my vote in that position, and each riders early season form only drives home that opinion4 points

Still waiting for the people demanding the meeting be postponed due to the weather to pop up & admit they were wrong / congratulate the track staff / promotion for ensuring the meeting went ahead.4 points

The moment Glasgow got Vissing in for Flint I think Berwicks chances of getting the bonus point went up in smoke. We had a fair chance before that imo and I don’t think Sedgy will do a bad job at all, he was the best pick of what was available with Brennan away and Nicholls ultimately never takes Championship guest bookings. Vissing however makes Glasgow extremely strong, I do also wonder why they let him go and brought Leon in but only time will tell if it works out for them.3 points

Was surprised that we never asked about Borke as it was clear he couldn’t get to grips with Armadale. From memory he was very impressive at Glasgow last season and again tonight. Berwick have won a watch getting him this season, Kemp very impressive also it was the heat leaders that let them down tonight.2 points

In Poland they have what they call sparring meetings or in our terms challenge meetings maybe to iron problems out as UK season is so short a couple of pre season meetings could even run POTE just to get riders dialled in be better than going in cold into league meetings2 points

"Not that great" Oxford took unbeaten Ipswich to within 6 points, with a missing rider & a manager who made a howler. That would've been a good result even with a full team. Harris has been decent, you can't really give him grief over one poor match, after all he was signed on a sub 7 average, you can't expect big scores every week. Janowski has been poor, but they are better to wait till gets a new average then drop a reserve for another heat leader (if anyone's available).2 points

Actually Schroeck's excuse for his mistakes makes him look even more inept imo I’m normally clued up, but there was so much going on towards the end of the meeting and I missed an opportunity there and that does frustrate me. As soon as Tungate was missing & Clouting was his planned replacement, the obvious choice would be for Wright / Clouting or Wright on his own to take the first 3 rides with Riss replacing Clouting / Tungate in heat 14 alongside Boughen. Then once they were 6 points down, very obviously you'd put Nicholls in instead of Boughen. So how was "so much going on" that he made a mistake? He should have known what to do before the first heat?2 points

Tungate's absence last night at Ipswich is being looked into by the SCB. No decision yet but could result in a 28 day ban for withholding his services. https://britishspeedway.co.uk/miscellaneous/scb-statement-rohan-tungate/2 points

Before my time really and don't fully know the details of that particular theft. But whilst I wouldn't equate the gravity of straightforward nicking of bikes with robbing vulnerable people with menaces, I don't think you'd want such people back in the same workplace where there's the opportunity to nick more bikes. I think I previously qualified my views on rehabilitation versus ongoing risk to others involved in the industry. At the end of the day though - with certain obvious exceptions - I think it needs to be up to individual employers whether they want to employ former criminals. I wouldn't employ someone who'd robbed disabled people unless I was absolutely convinced they were a reformed character, but if you get into blanket bans on former criminals resuming their former (honest) trade for unrelated crimes, where does it stop? And unless you mandate the death penalty for every crime, even former criminals need to make a living otherwise we'll continue to have to pay for them.2 points

Bringing Leon in is probably down to 2 things his age and they probably hope there is room for more improvement.2 points

Strawman argument. Harris's GSA is under 7 so no one should regularly expect him to score double figures. He's outscored his average in 4 out of 5 matches so far this season and that's an admirable record, not a reason to laugh at him.2 points

Yip, I agree I've said to someone who pulled the old 'I have a reliable source so I am right but I wont tell you my source' sort of thing that if you arent willing to name the source then keep schtum. Its the same for this situation It was worth a cheeky attempt at trying to get the name though I didnt for a minute expect it to succeed though As an aside though, it concerns me a little that the drugs side of thing is what is being concentrated on rather than what he did to a vulnerable disabled elderly person in their own home. If you want to get over the narrow minded perception of some of speedway's image, Im not sure granting him his licence back is the way to go about it2 points

I think his opponents will question whether they will want to be in a race, on a lethal machine, with someone as mentally unstable as he is? brick laying, plumbing, etc etc etc.....are one thing....but, one of the most dangerous sports in the world is another!? Just saying.....2 points

R and R Bookmakers the worlds top Speedway Bookmaker !!! are pleased to announce the 2024 Beat the Bookie competition. This is the 12th year of the competition(where has the time gone !!) and again there is a prize for the winner. For the 5th year the spread is now under the new scoring rules 1st 20 2nd 18 3rd 16 4th 14 5th 12 6th 11 7th 10 8th 9 9th 8 10th 7 11th 6 12th 5 13th 4 14th 3 15th 2 16th 1 Positions 1st to 4th in the Final Meeting Classification will be according to the result of the Final (Heat 23). Positions 5th to 8th in the Final Meeting Classification will be according to the results from the Semi Finals (Heat 21 & 22). The 2 Riders who finish 3rd in each of the Semi Finals will be 5th and 6th in the Final Meeting Classification, with the higher ranked rider from Intermediate Classification 5th and the lower ranked rider 6th . This rule will apply if both riders complete, or fail to complete the Semi Final. If only one of these riders fail to complete the Semi Final for any reason, he will be placed 6th in the final meeting classification. The 2 Riders who finish 4th in each of the Semi Finals will be 7th and 8th in the Final Meeting Classification, with the higher ranked rider from FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship Intermediate Classification 7th and the lower ranked rider 8th . This rule will apply if both riders complete, or fail to complete the Semi Final. If only one of these riders fail to complete the Semi Final for any reason, he will be placed 8th in the final meeting classification. Positions 9th to 18th will be according to the Intermediate Classification after 20 heats. As i get older i am getting more confident that my spreads are top notch !! Therefore in 2024 out have gone the gimmicks !!! The start amount is £600 - minimum bet per GP is £100 minimum bet per rider £50 The minimum bet doesn`t apply if total remaining is less than £100 - then all must be bet. THERE IS NO MAXIMUM BET IN 2024 Rules Each contestant MUST place bets in ALL the rounds -in the event of having no money left they are out of the competition All bets can be edited up to the advertised starting time of the meeting. If a rider is injured before a round starts then the bet is voided on that rider, or bets can be amended up to the meeting start time. If a rider starts a meeting but is injured and cannot continue THE BET STANDS but any points scored by the reserves count towards the injured riders score. If any rider is excluded for a starting offence the reserve points scored do not get added. To ensure fair play bets for the final round may be required to be PM`d to me instead of normal posting. If a meeting is called off at heat 16 then the spread will be adjusted to 4/5th`s of the original. If a meeting is called off at or after 20 heats the spreads stand. HOW TO PLAY One must bet on a rider to score MORE OR LESS than the spread-the HIGHER figure is taken for MORE bets and the LOWER for LESS bets-the mid between the two is what I expect them to score-and they add up to 146 which is the total points available in a GP Example Zmarzlik might have a spread of 15-17 for the 1st GP Player A might bet £100 HIGHER than 17) and he wins so would win (20-17)=3 X £100 = £300. If he finishes 4th he would lose (17-14)=3 X £100 = £300 Player B might bet £100 Lower than 15 and if he finished 8th(15-9 ) = 6X £100 would win £600. If he won the meeting he would lose(20-15) =5 X£100 = £500 A final message regarding the 2024 competition to you punters. M more value in 2024 U unique format from the no 1 Bookie G great prices S simply the best competition in world speedway I will post the Spread for Round 1 in Gorican on Saturday 27th April on Monday.1 point

Not just on about this evening. He’s proven over the years hes spent with Berwick how inadequate he is and frankly I find it baffling why he was given another go this season.1 point

Well.. with Leon in instead of Claus it may have been a very different meeting! Still very proud that we were in it right till heat 15 when you consider how we've done over recent years!1 point

If a race is good enough to warrant a rider get paid for winning it, then it’s good enough for the winning time to count even after an early abandonment.1 point

I don't think they should stand. It could be the meeting gets abandoned because the track is unsuitable, but one rider absolutely revels in the conditions and breaks the track record.1 point

Seems Emil still can't get a win in heat 1 - don't think he has won a first heat all season! Apart from Jenkins everything seems to be pretty much ok - he will drop to reserve which will hopefully give him some confidence. I watch a rerun of the Peterborough v Sheffield match from last season and he looked really good. Don't recall him being that great there as a rider either!1 point

There's a quote from Schroeck in the Oxford report: https://oxfordspeedway.club/2024/04/reaction-at-the-end-of-the-day-were-still-second-in-the-league-table-and-we-know-how-weve-now-got-a-very-strong-side-throughout-and-were-going-to-be-tough-to-beat/1 point

Harris 4 lol. Remember what people saying about what he would do at Foxhall v Ipswich last last year the final and will always score over ten etc lol1 point

Letting someone like that back into a sport would give it a bad name in the media I guess that is where speedway has an advantage. It doesn't have a good name, nor bad. It is just ignored1 point

There was an interview with Peter Schroeck during the interval of the Cheetahs match last night and he was adamant Kerr wasn't being replaced. "He will be out for five weeks, and we'll use guests...with Scott Nicholls already agreed to take a few of those bookings"1 point

That seems bonkers. Losing a rider because of injury or whatever reason should inevitably make your team weaker, that is the reality of it. Unfortunately they have now created a scenario where not only are you no longer weaker but you are actually far stronger. When riding at home with no logical reason using maths and statistics, you can get a guest with a higher percentage average than the missing rider. We now even have a scenario at Oxford where they’ve sacked and replaced a rider in Klindt, for Riss whilst keeping an injured rider in the side. There is no way that the league should of accepted that redecoration and the use of guests like Nicholls now.1 point

I really do hope he going to go on the straight and narrow now, not sticking up for him or justifying his crime in any way but he is not the first rider to attack and I use the term lightly another person and return to racing although the others may have escaped a prison sentence for their crime, anyway not sure how fans would react to him but in garrity’s world if anything can rehabilitate him it’s speedway, if that fails for him, I fear the worst1 point
-
Indeed... Again, not condoning what he did, but a sport that has allowed competitors to fix races shouldn't throw too many stones..1 point

i wouldnt describe what he did as 'doing something wrong'. he shouldnt be anywhere near the sport.1 point
