Mildenhall Speedway Press Release 03/25 dated 3/2/25: Trust gets massive thumbs up from Fen Tigers' supporters 140 Mildenhall Speedway supporters packed into West Row Village Hall on Sunday (2nd Feb.) to give a resounding vote of approval to a re-launch of the club, a significant number agreeing to contribute towards the funding mechanism put in place via a Community Trust which will ensure the Fen Tigers can return to track for the 2025 season. The Steering Committee of Steve Ribbons, Kieran Phillips, Jeremy Reader, Di Farmer and Derek Barclay have been charged with responsibility for progressing the application for Mildenhall to join the National Development Trophy [NDT] competition for 2025 and to confirm a team (all of which will be riders not associated with any other 2025 British Speedway side) to bring the Fen Tigers back to action for their Golden Jubilee season. And it’s going to be Saturday Night that’s alight for racing for this latest Mildenhall Speedway era, as Ribbons explained, “We have secured, thanks to the cooperation of track owners Spedeworth International, ten weekends across the Speedway season and the plan is to have a meeting on the Saturday night, followed each time by a practice/training session on the next morning. This is, we feel, the perfect model for developing riders - so youngsters and others who come along to the training are able to graduate to second half racing. And the practice/training on Sundays will provide a vital income stream to subsidise the Fen Tigers’ promotion.” The enthusiasm in the packed room was tangible and a massive fillip not just for those seeking to bring Speedway back to West Row after a year’s hiatus but for the sport nationally, as Fen Tigers’ ‘original’ (debuting in that 1975 season) and club legend, Rob Henry told the crowd, “When I started my Speedway career with Mildenhall the track hadn’t long been laid on what had been a potato field. Now it’s vital for all who care about both this club and the sport in general that we don’t ever go back to seeing potatoes growing there again. In those early days we thrived on flat out enthusiasm which was felt throughout the town and wider area and I can feel that same sense of enthusiasm in this room today.” The former Fen Tigers’ skipper went on, “What’s needed in Speedway these days to bring back the glory days of the sport is time, patience and money – and what we see today with this launch of the Mildenhall Speedway Fen Tigers Supporters Society is that there’s clearly a future here and that the sport as a whole needs clubs like ours to be up and running today”. Of the new Community Trust model, Steve Ribbons (who has a background in bringing clubs back into Speedway having done so in the past at Rye House, Wimbledon and Sittingbourne) stated, “This is first for British Speedway, a club owned entirely by its supporters, with all posts and decisions not made by a promoter but voted on by shareholders; and the enthusiasm and support shown at our launch meeting on Sunday bodes very well for a sustainable and promising future. All monies will stay within the Trust, which needs a capital outlay at first for the licence to run which involves a bond paid to the British Speedway Promoters Ltd company and some infrastructure at the venue. With the commitments received on Sunday by those signing up to the Trust, we are very close now to reaching the necessary target for that initial outlay.” Ribbons went on to explain in detail about the agreement reached with the stadium owners, “We have secured the track for the rental cost agreed for the whole weekend when we run – so that’s the Saturday evening for our meetings and then for practice and a training school the next morning on Sunday. We also plan to launch a charity with a working title of the ‘Suffolk Motorcycle Rehabilitation Scheme’ whereby working with other charities and statutory organisations, we’ll give opportunities for young people who may have got involved in antisocial behaviour around the riding of bikes to channel that instead into a positive training and rehab. programme.” For anyone wishing to join the Supporters Society, a link to the application form will be available shortly. We do! Use the one on my phone but having a physical one on display in the kitchen with columns for all four family members for their stuff is a great tool for not forgetting stuff. Plus a pouch at the bottom for letters etc!

And I would say Jack Smith or Connor Coles are better options than both

Warwick 8 Feb 2025RTV 2m (Inner) Birmingham Brummies Speedway Mares' Open National Hunt Flat Race (Category 1 Elimination) (GBB Race) (Class 2) (4-6yo) good to see the brummies sponsoring at warwick races on a big saturday, dunno if it will induce any new customers but its obviously the plan .

Just the Saturday, one of us has to work on Fri & Mon and can't get any time off as shifts known 2 years ahead!! Not sure what we'll do on the Sunday, maybe drive around somewhere.

As far as i know they are electronic- received on email confirmation.

MILDENHALL ARE BACK 🙂 Well done to all the genuine fans for coming today and getting behind the project. All it needs now is for the BSPA to rubber stamp their admittance to the NDL (surely the BSPA wont block them). For me, as a Rye House die hard I can now come on Saturday nights and cheer on the opposition except when Kent Crusaders/Kings/Eagles visit (I am still disgusted about what shenanigans went on in October down at Iwade) and I hope Mr Ribbons has his team motivated for what will surely be a don't miss evening

Unfortunately life doesn't work like that! If you love doing something yet are constantly hounded and abused by the people watching it then it's hard to keep at it! If you've never been a rider or involved with them then you wouldn't understand the stress and pressure they feel. On track with 3 other riders going 60mph with no brakes needs full concentration and commitment! Best thing to do is step away and live life for yourself and get back to the person you were before everyone thought they had a right to abuse you. He can still sit on a bike and do laps that he'll enjoy with no one there to criticise him!

The boys in international duty all seemed to go well, good signs for the year ahead.

I agree with this 100%. I hope Connor isn't lost to the sport but greater than that, much greater, I hope I find peace and happiness.

If your "head" isn't on the job in hand, then stepping away from speedway is a sensible thing to do, IMO. Last thing you want is to be "elsewhere" in your head when on a speedway track with 3 others doing speeds of up to 60mph.
