It's scandalous that the Championship dropped the process - both reserve positions should be British newcomers in the 2nd tier No non Brit should be allowed near a 2nd tier reserve position12 points

If they have any sense, yes. We all like value for money so surely all of us would prefer to see a meeting with two full strength teams, wouldn’t we? 😉5 points

It should have read… ”A new date for the fixture will be announced once Jason Doyle and Dan Thompson are fit.”4 points

The forecast may be bad It may rain The pit gate may need repair A hose could 'accidentally' be left on In speedway there's always a way if you need it.....4 points

No winners tonight, terrible advert for the sport on a terrible track4 points

It should have been compulsory in the 2nd tier to bridge the gap between ndl and championship. That would be the more logical step, and then maybe have 2 under 24 british riders in the premiership reserve berths4 points

Well if Killeen was Oxford's second best rider (used in heat 15) why wasn't he given extra rides before heat 15?3 points

This should be a written rule imo, matches not being called off until a forecast on the day of the meeting.3 points

People seem to be forgetting that 'Rising Stars' who don't have an established Premiership average are automatically considered 3.00, irrespective of their Championship averages.3 points

At the Showground I always wanted a close meeting rather than a one sided affair, of course I liked to see Peterborough to win but a thrashing never really did anything for me.3 points

Honestly I don’t think they would, from what I see a huge percentage of them lack bike control and track craft, they are good at going fast on big wide open tracks when there’s not other riders near and all have really fast bikes - too fast tbh which has led to some big crashes and several senior riders getting completely wiped out by young kids riding machines too powerful for their skill set and just getting launched all over the place when they catch a small bit of grip or a bump.3 points

And the "big crowds" were largely driven by being able to watch the superstars, on one of only three channels racing in top level individual meetings or the World Cup... Nowadays there is a myriad of "entertainment" things to do which didn't happen back then, and also a huge amount of day to day living costs which, again, simply didn't exist 40+ years ago, which means today's disposable income is far more stretched... "Mickey Mouse" rules in a professional sport could be got away with in the days of no 24/7 information and instant communication.. Losing 100 punters a year was affordable in crowds of 5,000, however, it started happening year on year and nothing was done to listen to those fans as they walked as to the reasons why... The operating model simply just doesn't stand up to modern day scrutiny and has created "lazy" practices.. Not enough riders? Then simply run with less riders per team... How many per team? It depends on how many riders you have and how many "spare" you envisage you need.. Instead we have "let's plan this fixture in for this date, even though we know both sides will have key riders missing, as we can simply have a "guestfest".. The outcome being? Social Media spends the days leading up to the meeting ridiculing it, and, post meeting, those same promoters who planned it in, will scratch their heads trying to work out why the crowd level wasn't good.. It's 2025, not 1975, and, as with any business, (especially one that is struggling), you simply cannot run with the same operating model you used 50 years ago and say "Well, it worked then, so why not now?"..3 points

By the time of the Mauger away guest facility of 1984 the decline had well & truly set in. Crowds were big compared to today’s levels but had dropped since the 1970s & track closures & those facing closure were increasing. The whole reason for the Mauger ruling was to get Exeter to move up from the NL to boost the top flight & try to at least make them competitive. The Mickey Mouse rules had started to erode credibility by 84 & that process has only increased since then, 43 years on & non of the warnings have been heeded & the sport now faces total collapse in the uk. One or two promoters on the 70s/80s could see the issues coming John Berry was one as is clearly outlined in his books. The other Stewkesbury who wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea fan the NL in the late 80s & ran the league without guests & some of the other daft rules that operated at the time in the BL. In addition the NL circuits had dirt on them which helped to improve the spectacle while offering lower running costs. The NL at the time boasted more tracks than the BL a more credible competition & better crowd levels. It ultimately met its demise with the amalgamation of the BL & NL prior to 1991. This brave new world was then doomed to fail because of the infighting by the former BL promotions not liking promotion & relegation. 30-40 years on nothing has really changed has it, apart from ever declining attendances.3 points

Alfie Bowtell (G) - 0, 0, F = 0 Francis Gusts - 0, 0, 1 and yet Schroeck didn't bother giving Killeen an extra ride until heat 15!! but he gave McDiarmid six rides!! Last week at Redcar he should have replaced Hagon with Mitchell McDiarmid in heat 11. The man is a liability and yes and I agree the worst manager. He's the only manager I know who when he has a reserve on fire, he don't use them!!2 points

Cooper was the reason I went along to watch and I wasn’t disappointed, looks very classy on the bike, good style and fast for his age. Also conducts himself well with the fans in the pits and on the microphone etc, this kid is going to go far.2 points

Great win, but Killeen only getting his 4 programmed rides. But the other reserve got 6. Absolutely mental, did shroek ask advice from cami? Guests did a good job didn't miss Dan too much and young Harrison definitely improving quickly.2 points

TBH, they could probably have waited until tomorrow morning to make the call. Every time I look on the Met Office it’s been changing! Wasn’t so bad an hour or two ago, but rain now pushed out til 6-7 tomorrow evening. Could have waited until early tomorrow, checked a more accurate forecast, and then made a call which would still have given everyone plenty of notice.2 points

If they don’t let Harrison ride then I’d ask Boughen to come back in, say he wants to give it a go and then just withdraw during heat 2, then let Kvech take his other 2 🙌🏻2 points

https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/forecast/u12b4ht3f#?date=2025-06-05 This has it petering out around 2pm and nothing after. Doesn’t actually look too bad there. As ever though, always a more reliable forecast on the actual day so let’s see what they say in the morning. I know I joked about wanting a rain off, but all jokes aside I hope it goes ahead. Hate postponements and I’d rather go and see a meeting tomorrow.2 points

No I haven’t All I can go on is points scored If one of my reserves was scoring 4 or 5 most meetings and the other was getting mainly 1 or 2 then I would keep the one who was scoring most If in the next few weeks Ritchings scores better than Starke then that’s a different argument If one had to go today for Cairns then that has to be Ritchings As of yet I’ve not read one Poole fan tell me why I’m wrong but as usual just get the usual responses2 points

It seems once a rider gets his foot in the Prem door, he's on the mind of many teams. Hume picked by Sheffield, guested then signed by Birmingham, guested for Ipswich. Compare that to Connor Mountain, who has a higher Champ ave, but seemingly gets completely ignored by Prem sides!2 points

Frustrating the ref wouldn’t let you replace someone who only had 2 rides. He really is thick.2 points

One has to question whether this compulsory "rising star" in the PL is actually a good thing ? Seems to me "rising stars" are just a bunch of riders that clubs are forced to track one per side. When they flop clubs are lumbered wiht having to pick another "rising star" replacement. All sounds like forcefeeding these youngsters into the PL whether they want to or not. The good ones would have probably got their chances anyhow. Does "rising star" status actually benefit anybody - other thatn theclubs who get a cheap number 7. ?2 points

When have the rules in speedway mattered? Everyone knows they are written on toilet paper and flushed when they need re-writing .😉2 points

How or do you not read stats? At home Starke 4 and 3 Ritchings 1 and a good 7 but only beating his reserve opponents which is his job Away Starke 3, 5 and 5 Ritchings 1,2 and 1 If Ritchings was younger then 30 maybe you can say he is the better option as he will improve But to say he is better option than Starke based on 1 meeting is daft … plus the fact that if it is Ritchings and Cairns then he will have enormous pressure to do well Poole have 2 poor reserves and unless Ritchings goes on some scoring spree this month then there is no way he should be kept instead of Starke Its like saying Poole should keep Kerr over Rowe as he outscored him at Berwick lol1 point

I posted about Boughen last season, no question the guy has natural talent and is really quick but he has some sort of mental block,at the time people were saying lack of experience and it will come in time but it isn’t, it’s something he needs to work out possibly with a sport psychologist because until he gets over it his career will suffer, it’s not just a issue for him though as we saw last year against Poole when he gated and then shut off causing Zack cook to hit him from behind1 point
-
Is that his last NDL average? He's clearly not the rider he was, it probably needs reassessing. Boughen has missed out on his Speedway education starting so late. Watching the SGP3 this afternoon and some of the first turns were brutal with the kids not frightened to get their elbows out. Boughen has missed out on all this.1 point

From his posts i think Luke's father has his head screwed on properly, from any interviews i've heard with Luke it seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I cannot see him going to RS at any PL team unless they both think the time is right and Luke can do himself justice. He's a very talented young rider, if he moves up i doubt he wants to be slagged off like just about every other RS. I'd say pretty much the same about Jody Scott too, though i think a PL RS position would be a step too far at the moment, needs to establish himself at CL level.1 point
