Ipswich vs King’s Lynn Thursday 21st August
GeneralMelchett replied to ShanoXtra's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
This is the result I expected in the KO cup match! Good to see Tom hitting form and better results of Dan, seems that despite the poor R/R score the rest of the team just did the jobs expected, curious on the crowd as it as good as last week? -
yes like Mercenary footballers 😆 Whilst to us and speedway in general these are big losses / donations etc its small fry - the reason so many football clubs are in financial trouble is the old school traditional English / or Scottish cairman is long gone as so many no longer have the fortunes required to keep up! As you suggest mercenary speedway riders have largely been the benefit as are mercenary footballers - but in some respects fans ourselves are part of the issue - certainly in football always wanting bigger teams and to play at a higher level, its all part of the circle!

He certainly was drawn towards it - just pipped his opponent by a nose! -

Enjoyed this also - the tone was set on heat one with the 5-1 - another decent opening ride from Anders Rowe! Leicester huffed and puffed a bit and they didn’t have the needed backup for Douglas and Fricke - got to commend Jack H for his heat 6 last lap overtake of Sam Masters - Likewise the impressive Morris who never gave up in heat 14 to claim 2nd in the line by fractions of a second! Heat 15 saw a good battle at Fricke tried to reel in JackH just failing - just one more lap and he might have but that’s ‘if yer Aunty had balls territory’! -

Planning to be there for this one - Leicester certainly do well at Owlerton of late so should be a good meeting - I think the Tigers will break the Leicester thing this time and claim a win about 47/43 or 48/42 -

I wasn't really commenting on that - the curse referred to the fact every time Emil was out in heat one he never won the race!! -

heat 1 curse! last year and this heat 1 is not a good one for him. -
When my old man passed away in 2022 I found a load of old camera slides of meetings we had attended in the late 80s and early 90s - it brought back memories for sure! One thing that stood out was just how much more packed the terraces were!
-
enjoy I was there for that sat in the grandstand
-
another great memory foor me was my first visit to Foxhall in 1988 for the England v Denmark test match against expectation England won 47-43, Silver top scoring from reserve and old Kelvin T holding off Hans Nielsen in one heat with his loose race jacket flapping round his face!!
-
I would certainly describe the racing as frantic at times particulary in the latter stages of the meeting, as for actual passing you may well be right BUT - one of my abiding memories of Brandon is Jason Lyons (always one of my favourites) passing Rickardson on the final bend of a heat in the SGP at Coventry in 2000! Fantastic bit of never give up riding!
-
I've only been to Kings Lynn twice - once was to a British semi final i think about 1989ish and then a BH Monday clash between the Stars and Bradfrod from May 1990 - both times place was packed out.
-
Happy Days - the final of the british final this year was agreat race imagine that at Brandon in fromt of 12k+
-
I went 87-90 and they were sunday afternoons - full house event 12k+ in attendance - I have a picture of the full stadium for one of them - sadly the Gps reduced the british Final to a bit of a rump competetion. I also went to the British GP at Brandon in 2000 - again sold out etc - great event - Martin Dugard the wildcard won it!
-
The British finals were for me not to be missed - sundays - packed out and some frantic racing!

I was at the recent cup draw and the witches weren't good enough to win it - so they need to be much better this time! I can see Lynn causing issues tomorrow, after opening with a 5-1 that match the Witches really should have gone onto the win and progress they didn't and that was entirely their own fault in my view for not being good enough. Brennan only got 1 win in his score of 3 and Ellis was below par - has been much better of late so it all points to maybe a home win! -

Whilst this is very true there are enough of us who are subjective and don't just wildly make something up - But what we can do is work with what we know! For example the back straight grandstand holds 1500 the little grandstand holds 250? - the home straight one was full and the back straight one was 2/3 to 3/4 full in my view so even if we said 2/3 full thats 1,000 in there - so that's 1,250 before we've even started on the terraces. I've been to the NSS and the day I went it was very well attended (Aug BH in 20204) the crowd i think was 2000+ easy as the grandstand holds 1800?? and the back straight can accomodate about 1k to 1.5k? the grandstad was again about 3/4 maybe more full so thats about 1350 with 750 or more in the back straight.so thats how i build these figures up, as you say its subjective but i like to think based on reality! What i can say is in 4 visits to Foxahll in 2025 last night was the best attendance by some way! -

Not a problem - as I say / see it the moment you leave your gating line then it’s no longer FTG one of the best moves last night was when Brennan gated alongside Bewley he managed to just get a fraction ahead and the clamp him to the kerb into 1st / 2nd bend and that allowed King round the outside off bend 2 - to me a comment of ‘FTG’ doesn’t do justice to the move and the fact King blasted round everyone and by the exit of bend 2 was away and gone for the win!! -

You see I disagree here the moment someone comes off their gate line and secure the pass it’s a pass so off gate 4 you cut back at the apex of bend 1-2 and secure a pass that’s no longer FTG!! -

GeneralMelchett replied to Aries's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Debates on here often thrash about with a degree of parochial mediocrity so that now passes on lap 1 apparently don’t count and FTG now incorporates everything that occurs on lap 1! we then have people who were not there suggesting they know the crowd figures! -

This is sadly true, each to their own as they say but having attended many sports ovet the years, Cricket, Ice Hockey, Rugby both codes, Football, Athletics, Basketball , Horse racing - i can honestly say speedway is still my favourite - the thrill of a great speedway race beats all of them!
