  1. Sanchez was proven at Plymouth as a decent performer - Yes he is inconsistent but I never got the hype over Kling. I'm sure we explored the avenue but a deal wasn't possible. Kling had a couple of reasonable meetings as a guest against us last season but was always winning from the gate. He's already been moved away from the number 5 berth which I don't think will make a blind bit of difference myself. I'm not quite sure what you mean mate. You say too early to make changes but then say Kling shouldn't be given time? For what it's worth we've only ridden one away meeting thus far and that was a challenge and other than Reade everyone is 'scoring' something. If the racing is as good as last weeks I'm sure the crowd will stay but what I don't want to see is riders that don't look that interested.
  2. I find it incredible with your comments that you can score Gathercole with an 8 an Todd with a 9 but hey ho. Far too early to call for changes in my book but Kling worries me!
  3. Updates will be here... http://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ply&action=display&thread=12059
  4. Is Proctor the new Gjedde - now that's the question? In all seriousness how a rider can beat a GP rider one night and then lose to visiting PL reserves on another is beyond me but hey that's speedway. I'm not questioning Ty's commitment to the cause, it's clear the lad wants to do well, however he didn't just miss the start's he got off the start line about 2 seconds later than everyone else which in speedway we all know is a long old time! Credit where it's due, Rye turned up to ride the track and got their set up's right. Plymouth turned up hoping to ride the track they thought they knew but were instead faced with something literally prepared like Hoddesdon is most weeks. For me... Ty - Looking like a poor reserve at the moment and it's not just his gating, he doesn't look remotely fast but that said the lad deserves a chance to put it right - we're only two meetings in after all. Schrammy - Love his attitude, love his commitment - He needs to stay on the bike more often but I can see why fans take him to their hearts. Lemo - Not looking very fast but seemed to get going late on last night - More to come I'm sure. Cory - Brilliant last week, not so good this. If you prepare a slick track you won't see the best of him. Ricky - Not convinced - The Devils management think he's a steal on 6.6, I think he'll do well to maintain that on his first couple of displays but still needs more time. Seems to be half the rider when he misses the gate! Todd - Our best rider so far this season, looking class! Ben - Trying hard and needs time - I hope the promotion stick with him but if the top end continues to faulter he'll come under more and more scrutiny!
  5. That's just it, I like the Rebels team a lot in that they have massive potential but if the young lads at reserve don't do the business they could struggle badly at the bottom end. Cracking heat leader trio mind you and no matter what, I think they'll be playoff bound at worst but could come unstuck against all round strength. Either way I'm getting the thermals out an hoping the rain stays away for what should be a cracking double header to start the season. Oh and I don't think we'll be bottom this year either
  6. Sorry but I simply can't agree with this statement. Being negative doesn't mean you don't support the team. I more than most am a negative sod most of the time but I also like to think I try to be realistic and most certainly support the team even if I'm critical. Saying nice things all the time about the team doesn't make you a supporter it merely makes you happy with the team put in front of you (Not aimed at you Roger as I'm well aware you aren't always positive). I'm delighted with our new promotion and the new team assembled shows that the management have thought through a well balanced team with a decent blend of youth and experience. But if that team struggles early season supporters will and have every right to criticise, I doesn't mean they don't support the team it just means they want their team to do better! For what it's worth I reckon we'll frighten a few away and certainly not be scrapping for the wooden spoon, but there are some very strong teams out there this season. We'll be mid-table possibly sneaking 6th.
  7. Schramm should prove steady if not spectacular, he always gives 100% effort which is all that can be asked for hopefully he stay injury free! Reade will hopefully continue his development and improve his average and will no doubt be given the time he needs. Our middle order will be the key this season, Cory needs a big year!
  8. Well he'd be 3.69 so my guess is yes he is. That said I'm told he's quite expensive and for that reason he probably won't be the man to fill the reserve slot. I'd put money on it being Reade. The interesting thing is that there seems to be work permit issues with whoever we are looking at for the main body role meaning we may be looking at someone else now instead. One of the guys on the Plymouth forum brought up Hawkins' name and I tend to think he could end up being our number 2 which I'd be quite underwhelmed with as I don't really rate him. It's just such a shame Boxall can't sort himself out as on 5.69 and Reade/Starke on a 3.00 we'd be looking decent!
  9. Starke or Reade are for me much of a muchness. Paul hasn't had the best of times over the past 2 seasons in the NL however he is a rider I've always liked and a 100% trier who is back on the right road and improving again as the Newcastle fans saw last season. Ben had a brilliant here last year putting nearly 5 points on his average in the NL and is also a grafter who never gives up. Both would be decent 3 pointers in my opinion. The key is who goes at 2 as ideally we need someone who can maintain a reasonable average so we can keep Todd at reserve for as long as possible. If we can do that then we could well do well in 2013. Is Graham Hambly not the Press Officer?
  10. The Devils new official website has gone live I'm sure you'll agree it looks great, well done to Tim who is responsible for the great looking new site... http://plymouthdevils.co
  11. PL PLAY-OFF WINNERS (and CHAMPIONS!): Newcastle PL FINAL LEAGUE LEADERS: Newcastle PL TROPHY WINNERS: Ipswich PL KO CUP WINNERS: Edinburgh PL FOURS WINNERS: Leicester / Berwick PL PAIRS WINNERS: Somerset TOP OF PL AVERAGES: Doyle BEST NEWCOMER: Adam Ellis MOST POINTS ADDED TO STARTING AVERAGE: Adam Ellis WOODEN SPOON TEAM IN PL: Glasgow
  12. Personally I can't help thinking Godfrey's departure will be a terrible loss to Plymouth Speedway. He has very good contacts and having spoken to him myself he had a lot of good ideas for the place. I think the reasoning for the 'sacking' is pretty poor but then that's up to those concerned. I can't help thinking there is more to this but hope I'm wrong. All the best Godfrey with your future projects.
  13. Announced maybe but he hasn't actually signed! I think your promotion may be left with egg on their faces!
  14. Totally agree, to say Plymouth are as good as Somerset on the current signings and speculation at who will complete the Plymouth side is in my opinion crazy. Somerset should be top 4, Plymouth will be bottom 4 but that will do me given the last 2 seasons.
  15. Have to agree reference manzares and novratil. Always thought the latter was by far the better prospect however I'm told gino has come on leaps and bounds of late and judging by some of his recent results state side he could do ok.
  16. Two riders still to be named but it's likely to be... 1. Proctor 2. ? 3. Lemon 4. Gathercole 5. Kling 6. Kurtz 7. ? I believe the deals are close to conclusion for the other two and from what I hear VH is right on the money!
  17. Compare that to last year... Barker, Fisher, Gathercole, Holder, Kurtz - I'd say the five above aren't as good as this five even if Holder struggled. Throw in Reade who has been talked about and I'd actually say we could be weaker than last year. It would only leave 5.7 for the last rider too and unless that was a gem I can see us being towards the bottom. I hope we go for something a bit stronger myself.
  18. We shall have to wait and see, Thursday all will be revealed.
  19. When you hear about the possible side we could track and then hear the side we are likely to track you can't help but worry. I'm very surprised with these comments about Proctor, I wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole on 9.21. Doyle didn't average that last year at Somerset and he's better than Proctor. He's good but not that good and from what I've seen of him he's very inconsistent! I'd take the Fish over him every day of the week if it were possible, on a lower starting figure and likely to average more come the end of the season. I'm delighted that we have a new promotion on board and that in itself is brilliant, I just hope the team put together isn't the one I've heard mutterings of as it won't exactly set the world on fire imo.
  20. I wish, may well be an American but wont be Fisher
  21. Well I've heard of two different possible 1-7's and one is definitely weaker than what Sheffield have put together. The other one mind you now that would be decent!
  22. I don't think anyone ever thought he'd go to Plymouth it was more of a case of wishful thinking.
  23. Kyle's had a massive amount going on behind the scenes of which it wouldn't be right to splash on here over the past 18 months not to mention his injuries. If he is back to his old self and is fully committed he could easily be Stoke's number one. Great signing and I wish him and the other former Plymouth riders all the best.
