Ice Speedway Fixtures 2015 - 2016
Ghostwalker replied to Hawk127's topic in International World of Speedway
Smederna have announced today that, the Individual Swedish ice racing final which were supposed to have been held at Smederna's speedwaytrack on the last Sunday in February, will not go ahead as planned due to the warm weather. http://ikarossmederna.se/ingen-mojlighet-att-genomfora-sm-finalen-i-isracing/ Swedish (Svemo) nominations for this year's international event. http://www.svemo.se/sv/Grenar/Isracing/Nyheter/Uttagningartillkommandeisracingtavlingar/ -
You mean BEL getting a taste of it's own medicine? Why should BEL have exclusive right to "every" day of week? Why should BEL but not Poland and/or Denmark have the right to Fridays? As it currently is the BEL is just as a big "issue" to the others leagues as they are to BEL since BEL have a meeting almost every day of the week. Try to find an available night for a postponed Elitserien meeting and you'll see that it's "impossible" to find a race night were both teams have all riders available since they are occupied with racing in BEL and Denmark which means that teams usually are somewhat depleted when the postponed meetings are re-run. So this is just another case of British speedway expecting every league or series to adjust to/revolve around them.

There have been lawsuits or similar against teams like Indianerna, Frölunda Indians and Chicago Blackhawks (and other teams as well) for using alternate names for native Americans as nick names. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_mascot_controversy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_mascot_controversy http://www.expressen.se/gt/sport/frolunda-indians-har-nu-blivit-do-anmalda/ -

I think the most important is that have teamed up with Eursosport to get a trans-European* coverage without having to negotiate separate deals for each country/market. *Eurosport can also be seen outside Europe in some extent in Asia and I do belive that they are. Their actual arrangements needs some work though. Over 3,5 hours for a SEC meeting is almost on hour too much. There were also some questionable decisions regarding track prep for the Kumla round last year. -
Changed post-season format for the Danish league: League winner and 2nd placed team goes directly to the "Superfinal" which will be held on the league winners track but unlike previous years, teams placed 3 and 4 won't be guaranteed a place in the final since they will now have to a semi final against teams placed 5 and 6. 3rd placed team will have the advantage of hometrack. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=493755677463859 Can't say I am particular fond of the Danish Superfinal format but on the Swedish format on the other hand isn't particular much better.

From what I've been told from one of Eurosport's commentators, ES was very unhappy about the general production. Lot's of delays due weather and or crashes and etc as well as general uncertainties regarding if/when a meeting would start due bad weather. IMO these are hardly new things to league meetings, which doesn't have the forced "go aheadness" of GP-meetings, so perhaps it was a combination of bad luck with the unusual amount of postponed meetings and poor research from Eurosport. Poor research in that sense that they perhaps didn't really knew what to expect since anyone who regularly attends speedway knows that there will be delays and postponed meetings.

Sorry I don't know. But AFAIK the Östersund quali was not covered by Svemo TA. It was listed as scheduled but there was no link to a live results page. I only have the points results: http://www.op.se/sport/motor/svensson-och-ledstrom-till-gp-final -

Smederna have decided to host the Swedish final. http://ikarossmederna.se/sm-finalen-i-isracing-till-eskilstuna/ It will be held at Smederna's regular track which means that it will be a naturally frozen track. Pure madness if you ask me when you have in mind that the Swedish weather is very unpredictable even in the winter. I feel that this is a too big gamble and what happens when/if the weather changes to milder conditions? -

Formula 1 and MotoGP seems to do pretty well with their made up teams. So who cares except BSI who only seems to whine for the sake of it rather then doing something themselves. -

I don't say that they are but as long as the championship title sponsor also sponsors a few selected competitors in said series, they can never escape suspicions of bias. Especially not when those selected riders and said sponsors seems to have an ongoing "campaign" to "discredit" Nicki, who just happens to be the main rival to those riders. -

Poland 2016 Season Extraleague News
Ghostwalker replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
Salary cap have been tested in Sweden and it was too easy to circumvent since some teams used "hidden" payment were the riders salary were paid from the sponsors rather from the team. So while the teams on paper looked like they were below the salary cap, they were in reality far over it. Salary cap works well in i.e. NHL but the players are not freelancing consultants like the speedway riders are: They players have a fixed employment with the (only) team (franchise) they are playing for, the salaries are public information and very few, if any, players have private sponsors in the same way as speedway riders do. How are you going to control a speedway riders payments? How do you determine which/how much money are private sponsorship and how much is "hidden" salary? -
Some good news. Filbyterna in Linköping who stopped with the speedway a number of years ago due to the mandatory requirement for tracks to be equipped with an airfence. They have now bought a used airfence from Elit Vetlanda and Filbyterna have also started working on the track, putting on new track material, as well as working with other minor things to get the track/arena back into a usable shape. Initially they will only use the track for practice for 80cc and 500cc. They also have plans to arrange some sort of training camps. http://www.speedwaynyheter.se/2016/01/09/filbyterna-pa-gang-igen/

Swedish rider Peter Ljung is also on record saying that he doesn't think that Nicki and G. Laguta are that dirty as some claim them to be. -
How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Ghostwalker replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
To some extent I think things like parking and/or transport needs to be well functioning in order to primarily avoid loosing existing spectators and secondly to attract new fans. Smederna used to have a huge gravel parking lot which were well sufficient for the amount of spectators Smederna attracted. However when Smederna folded some idiot was very short sighted and allowed one of the other clubs at Eskilstuna Motorstadion, to out up a fence over almost the entire parking lot and later extend the go cart track into a smaller tarmac track used for go carts, drifting and mini moto. When Smederna advanced into Allsvenskan and rode their for two season, it became pretty obvious that the small parking lot wouldn't be enough. When the parking is a mess people will stay home since they are a bit comfortable. For 2015 a new parking was built behind the speedway arena but it is still too small for attendances over 3000 and there is only a small narrow gravel road leading to it so there are still lot's of queues. The good thing though is that Smederna have a bus going from the central city out to the arena (about 12km) which only costs 20SEK (~1.6) for a round trip. Another good thing is that Smederna offers the possibility to pre-purchase tickets for an individual meeting so that you can use the season ticket entrance and by that avoid the queues for the regular buy-at-the-gate entrances. -
I also know that Jacob Thorssell's sister worked in Australia (as a nurse I think) for quite a long time (maybe a year or so).
