Once needed a race to be re-run because a spectator decided to walk across the track during a race, causing a rider to take avoiding action.
Where?
Owlerton. If memory correct it was Tigers v Newport at 3rd division level. Despite what happened the race did continue, as it was an easy 5 1 to Sheffield. However there was an objection after the race and the referee ordered a re run. Spectator thrown out of the stadium.
Whilst having sympathy for the difficult position promoters must be in, can't help but feel that all season ticket holders from last year, who rolled over their tickets to this year, ought to be getting some information about what they may possibly expect in 2021.
Birmingham will be forced into a change (unless a certain rider is digging a tunnel). Doubt if Pedersen will be at Sheffield. Sheffield also indicated early on that there would be another change.
The guest rule is open to manipulation. Years ago I remember James Grieves being unavailable for a match at Sheffield. Although he was a good 2nd tier heat leader he rode Sheffield like a 3rd tier reserve. His team brought in Simon Stead as guest.
I have often wondered if guests should be chosen by a neutral to try to make the replacement as equal as possible. However I think trying to get someone to accept this poison challis may not be so easy.
Whatever happens hopefully we will get a 2021 season. News on vaccine is hopeful.
Be nice to get some official confirmation of what the promoters intend. Last year the outcome of AGM announced on 15 November.
