From what I understand they still own the land
-
Watched a podcast with Keith Huewen last night on YouTube, he talks about sky BT Eurosport and TNT and their coverage of moto GP superbikes etc, interesting listening to not only his corncerns about the coverage of bike racing but also about the sport itself in the uk, he could of just been talking about British speedway, seems speedway is not alone in its struggles, speedway gets a mention a couple of times, it’s 2.30 hours long but an entertaining interview

Is there is a loophole in the planning laws ?if you have a piece of land like a field and you want planning permission to build houses or industrial buildings on that land and no matter how much you try you can’t get permission to do so because it’s green belt but they will give you permission to build a sport track/facility on it so you build that facility and use it for a few years and then deem it not financially viable so shut it down and then reapply for planning saying it’s now not green belt land anymore as it has a sport facility on it, this would make sense to what happened at Somerset
-
It will be cheaper to buy a new box than have that one recommissioned, nobody really repairs them these days, trackspark sell them for around £260 new
-
Slight change of track but I went to Somerset on Friday and went on to the oak tree arena site, they have a greggs, McDonald’s, screwfix and ford to the right as you drive in off the main road now and the old bar on the first bend is an energy company’s office now but they havent touched where the track was,you can still see the outline on google earth, so why couldn’t they have kept the speedway there ?
-
Has the speedway star ever done an honest few pages on the people who run the sport track record? that would make a really interesting reading, speedway’s demise is 90% self inflicted, Osbourne as immoral as he may be is a business man and his business is in a far better state than ours
-
Said it before, Clarke Osbourne is a business man and he does what business men do, if speedway got its act together and actually turned round some sort of profit Clarke Osbourne would be on our side, you may not like his methods and he certainly knows how to manipulate councils etc for his own gain but he is a business man and his priorities are to make money, he doesn’t break the law, too many fans have faith in councils, they are just as deceitful as Osbourne but ultimately the sport itself has to take the blame for the state that it’s currently in

Eurosport, terrible professionalism.
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Odds On's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The answer is just buy BSN and forget about Eurosport, BSN is a far superior product anyway -

Good signing, really brought out the best of him last year when he was brought in to replace Doyle -
Yes it possibly should be Phil Morris’s job but he seems to be in the dark as everyone else, as I understand it the lease goes up to £150,000 after the dogs move out, which is ok if you have a free reign on the use of the stadium but apparently you don’t, it comes with major restrictions, which as I said earlier sounds like they want the speedway out to sell off the stadium but getting the speedway to make the decision themselves by making the lease unworkable, putting 2 and 2 together I believe there were plans to move the Cardiff GP to Alexandra stadium and when the track is installed maybe Bham would move there but that didn’t work out

I have spoken about this before but speedway needs to consider becoming an amateur charity like sport and it would then get tracks built like althletics, bmx, cycling etc built for free as part of projects like this commonwealth games left over money, with good accountants riders could still earn a living from the sport,we have to start thinking out the box, at the moment from the very top we have a shoddy at best working organisation running the sport, there should be a go to manual/protocol for any new potential promotion to turn to for when they meet professional planners who have questions they need answering, there isn’t one, how amateurish is that ? The bspl/scb don’t answer calls or emails and when you finally get a reply they don’t have answers like what’s the decibel reading at 150yards from the bikes, these are questions planners ask and the sport doesn’t have them, there is no go to person and quite frankly it’s pathetic for what is supposed to be a professional sport and this is why you get residents turning up a planning meetings saying “I’m not having hells angels riding up and down my road all hours of the day” we know it’s not like that but people outside the sport don’t and this is why there should be go to protocol for these planning meetings
-
Yes and they can’t sell because they don’t have bathrooms, they were built for commonwealth games and had communal bathrooms, the games were allocated £millions of which £50 million was never spent and is now supposedly being proposed for a velodrome in Bridgnorth Shropshire but that has gone very quiet lately and one of my customers who is a big player in Bridgnorth with the council said he knew nothing about it so sounds like some iffy dealings going on somewhere, there were 2 other locations in the running for the velodrome too both in the Black Country, what do you think was the answer when speedway asked to be part of the plans ?
-
There are many uses, from stock car to go karts to car boots and anything in between but as I understand it the council are basically saying no to other ways of making revenue and uses for the stadium, in a roundabout way they are forcing the speedway out but making so as the speedway make the decision
