  1. Please no!! I hate statistics and am not the slightest bit interested in them. If I had known there would be loads of "facts & figures" then I wouldn't have bought the book. It was brilliant and thanks for the chance to have a little insight into Simon's life & family, as well as his speedway/longtrack career. Great stuff.
  2. Another vote in favour of keeping the G.P. at the Millenium Stadium. This must surely be a record - so many agreeing with Steve Shovlar.
  3. That tray equals something you'd clean the toilet with to me.
  4. What's the scenery like round Reading? Any chance of lying on the beach beforehand, going for a boat trip or relaxing whilst looking at fantastic views across a harbour? .....
  5. Helmut....It isn't very clear I agree. Your best bet is to go through the motions as if you are going to order the tickets at the price you intend to pay, then look at the seating plan to see where they are. For instance I've just checked £35 and they seem to be for the L sections in the lower tier. Ticket price £29 - there are a lot of different seats in the higher tier around the stadium, U sections. I'm not sure, but if looks like the popular middle tier seats are already sold out in a lot of areas. If you experiment and look at the seating plan you will be able to hopefully get the tickets you want so you then just carry on and order them. Hope I've not confused you even more but no-one had answered your query so I thought I'd try to help.
  6. I think it's a bad idea as well. Right at the end of a Bank Holiday week when a lot of people will be away and have to cut short their holiday to get to Cardiff.
  7. Thank you. I love a happy and successful ending to a mystery. Here is the cutting I was referring to and now I know that it is indeed the Howard Cole I will add him to my scrapbook. http://community.webshots.com/photo/153283...22241446HDcPZr# I wonder who the other rider is?
  8. Thanks for the info. so far. If this is indeed the Howard Cole then I know he went on to have a very good career in speedway, but I'm a bit confused about the George bit? Was that his first name? Where's Norbold when I need him?
  9. I've come across an old newspaper cutting about a George Cole, aged 10, who rode a scaled down speedway bike with a genuine racing engine in the frame. He also acted as mascot for Wolverhampton at their Brayfield track. Not sure what year this would be - possibly sometime in the 50's - but perhaps the mention of Wolves riding at Brayfield might give a clue? I was wondering if George Cole, whoever he was, ever made it to being a speedway rider and would he have been any relation to Howard Cole, aka Kid Bodie? Anyone know anything about him?
  10. Is that supposed to be a compliment?
  11. Bit further away next year it seems. We are in N4, same as before, which is nearer the 1st bend. I think N1 is towards the second bend?
  12. Received my copy today. Thanks Tony. It looks brilliant and I look forward to reading it when I can prise it off my husband. Great to know there will be a book about Kenny Carter coming out next May as well. Will have to get my name down for that one.
  13. Talking to yourself again Joanne? Yes, £29 are the cheapest tickets. You can't beat the middle tier on the 1st bend at that price and if you want to be there you should definitely be thinking about purchasing your tickets soon before they sell out.
  14. I went to one of those as well. Long Eaton 65 - Middlesbrough 0 because they packed up and went home. How boring is it watching two riders going round for a 5 - 0 in every race!

Well, put it this way. If he wore a red suit on Christmas Eve he would be a dead ringer for Father Christmas.
  16. I like to keep my mind active. It helps to stop the brain cells dying.
  17. OR....the race at Coventry in the 80's (?) which was re-run 3 times with a rider excluded each time, leaving just Rick Miller. He was then excluded by referee Geoff Dalby for not making a bona fide attempt to race because he was entertaining the fans popping wheelies on his way round. Race result 0 - 0. I shouldn't think that happens very often. You could probably get more details from the man himself as he is a member of the forum......unless Ross has scared him off.
  18. Must make watching the speedway very difficult.
  19. A friend who is not a speedway fan, but always goes to Cardiff and enjoys it, wants to branch out a bit more next year and take his Polish girlfriend to one of the G.P's in Poland. I have told him that Bydgoszcz is probably the best to go to, but am I right? Also any advice on the best airline to use and place to stay for a few days would be appreciated. Thanks.
  20. .......It's quite refreshing to know that someone is even more confused than me.
  21. So whereabouts is he living these days Norbold? Presumably somewhere in the Norfolk area being as he never gets to any of the Leicester reunions? I'm feeling quite pleased with myself actually because I chose him purely by looking at a 40/50? year old photo and trying to imagine what he would look like today. Knowing my reputation with faces I think I did quite well. I hate coconut so I don't mind losing.
  22. Damn!! Beaten to it, if you are referring to the Leicester photo then that is the answer I had decided on after trawling through my 3 Leicester books, written by Alan Jones, the latest one "The Lions Roar" just published if anyone is interested. My second choice was Alf Parker. Lionheart.......Ivor Brown passed away a few months ago.
