  1. The greater good is a one way street, I've never heard or read that opinion from a Monarchs fan. For the last 2 winters we could have closed for good and I doubt very few in the east would have batted an eyelid. We have rightly not been on their radar as we have been uncompetitive for several seasons, however what has been abundantly clear during that time is that they do not need us. The greater good only works when travelling fans reciprocate in the same large numbers and the home team on each occasion benefits from the gate money. Sunday hopefully has heralded a new dawn, an excellent travelling support who turned out on a rotten day. Glasgow look competitive this season, matches with the Monarchs look to be tasty and crowd pullers but rather than undermine the greater good ideology, the hard evidence will be in 3 weeks at Ashfield when we see if it actually is shared amongst the fans of both clubs.
  2. But will they return in 3 weeks or will it be back to the usual handful? It would be a great atmosphere if they did and the weather played its part. #olivebranch #willwaitandsee
  3. Or positive PR for those who don't like dogs at their weekly speedway meet.
  4. Good post, you would think though that with the club having a once in a lifetime relaunch we could start afresh. Presenters have to be visually presentable, as well as bearing in mind they are announcing to everyone in the crowd not just the home fans. It can be embarrassing at times especially from the announcers box, who knows what away fans think never mind any newbies. Lets hope for a more slick and professional presentation to kick start our new era at the end of the month.
  5. Rejuvinated stadium, more professional era in a break from the past, surely not ....
  6. By rough calculation from an overall CMA of 7.09 that gives a home average of 8.55, not too shabby. General opinion on here seems to be that the brethren aren't with you in dropping Pijper. Morris and Lawson are genuine No 1's and its unfair to compare TP with them, he is after all a third heat leader and even rode at reserve for us in 2011. As for Summers and Smith, can only disagree. Summers is one that still baffles me and only his age and non work permit status seems to be in his favour of signing him, never mind buying him as an asset. He will never be a rider of the standard of Pijper IMO, though for this season I think he'll be the Richard Sweetman of 2011 with his shortcomings likely over looked in a strong side. We still have Kozza unable to enter the country and who knows what preparation he may have done if any for the new season bearing in mind he may be refused a work permit. Pijper could have filled that slot for this season anyway and we could have gone after Kozza for 2016 after all money talks.
  7. Pijper should have had a team place close to home. He will serve you well. He is used to riding under pressure having covered for an incompetent team mate and some mind boggling management decisions to change riders last season. The situation with Douglas may not be all that simple. If he comes back mid season and finds it hard to score points he may not achieve the magical 7 points.
  8. Hard to judge from peering through the fence on Finlas Street though it did seem like the retaining wall on the fourth bend had been moved back. The track itself was all ploughed up and there was a mini bucket loader going round on the track with materials.
  9. Hopefully the product is ready for 6 weeks today against the dark side. I took a run up today, there has been a lot of work done at Ashfield, a lot still to do and a lot of clearing up to go with it. Will the track be able to be re-laid and settle in time for racing? Last time we had major track changes in 2011 we ended up delaying the start of the season.
  10. It was the snowy Friday evening against London I was there, great finish right at the end too. At £10 an adult, speedway can't compete with that though hopefully we can bring back families to Ashfield, they are evident at Braehead Clan and the basketball though it may need a change of race day from a Sunday.
  11. Good post, you can't market speedway to a new audience with the way Ashfield was. I went to see Glasgow Rocks last month on a deal from Wowcher, there were no more than 350 spectators there. However the facilities were excellent and the overall experience was good. If we get all the ingredients right, decent facilities, snack bar and racing hopefully the only thing we don't have control over plays its part for this season anyway, the weather.
  12. Fair point though longer term Westminster would take back control of immigration and could offer favourable terms to the nations of our choosing not those imposed on us, just as the Portuguese do for Brazilians, the Italians for Argentinians etc.
  13. Vote to leave the EU in 2 years time. Nothing else can stop it.
  14. Frede Schott got one for considerably fewer seasons. Testimonials are personal choice, support it if you agree otherwise ..... Supposedly there is one, though liberally applied by the sports' largely discredited governing body.
  15. Average too high for a second string. Will Kozza last the season injury free? If there is any doubt about Kozza's work permit we should be looking elsewhere. Pijper would fit the bill IMO and doesn't need a work permit though he would be perfectly entitled to tell us to ram it. Rusty has already gone and seems like there will be a few PL places available for non work permit riders.
  16. Great piece of business by the Tigers, absolute theft for a reserve.
  17. Absolutely mental that we have paid very decent money for a very average rider who IMO is already on an inflated 7.78. We would have been better to take Pijper back on loan. Can see the best part of a point off that by October, if not more.
  18. Don't suppose a challenge against Redcar is out of the question ?
  19. Racing at the end of March even at the best tracks is usually pish with the weather and track being too wet/cold to think about making a pass and riders not wanting to risk it in what is essentially a challenge match. Big name opposition from the EL would have been just the ticket for the launch meeting, supposing we got a humping, it would be great to see Holder, Iversen etc rather than trundle out the same old 'bragging rights' bull that gets spouted when Edinburgh are due to visit. Supposing we beat them, I really couldn't care, just don't want to see them any more than we have to.
  20. Friggin Spring Trophy as an opener and the Monarchs twice in 3 weeks at Ashfield. Had hoped this shyt would be canned with the re-launch of the Tigers.
  21. Its time for Summers to consult legal advice should he be squeezed out. Potentially signing for Glasgow has taken his situation to the brink and Glasgow should support him financially in that instance.
  22. To get that it would have to be an opening meeting against the Monarchs. Heaven forbid they might bring a reasonable number over.
  23. Stuart Robson. Bit of justice handed out by Havvy jnr?
