  1. I remember the legendary fight between Scott Nicholls and Emil at Cardiff a while back, and the first chap to run onto the track to split them up was Pete the gate man from Newport, I miss Pete. He always used to rib me for eating burgers before a Mavericks meeting. Whilst I'm on the subject, I miss Newport's burgers. Best burger of all the tracks I've been to/ridden at.
  2. For those of us too lazy to google, or to navigate to the first post: http://www.thefreestyleshow.co.uk/
  3. I definitely agree, it will never happen, but it would be a potential solution to increasing crowd sizes and income, it's just too much of a risk.
  4. If a club charges £17 per meeting and drops this to £10, they would have to "pretty much" double their crowd to make that work - I did say: "they'd have to bring in nearly twice the crowd" that's basic business. it's pretty logical. Riders are never going to take pay cuts, equipment is never going to get any cheaper. Promoters need to think outside the box to make ends meet and it won't involve cutting costs when it comes to paying riders.
  5. It would be interesting to see if a track could survive by charging £10 on the door week in, week out. Granted they'd have to bring in nearly twice the crowd, but the increase in food/drink/merchandise sales should also increase as a result. An experiment I'm assuming will never be attempted.
  6. If you consider how Starke simply slid off and stayed down, compared to Smith's high speed crash into the fence, that should put it into perspective. If one of these riders had less chance of getting up and off the track, it was Smith, and he was straight up to clear his bike. Disgusting thing to do. The replay shows that Starke was miles behind Smith and would have had plenty of time to get out of the way, rather than put it down. This was blatant cheating and he deserved his fine. Aside from that blip, the meeting was fantastic and clearly shows that the Berwick promotion are doing their job properly. If only all tracks were run like them.
  7. I did find it quite funny how Tai said in an interview in Prague that everyone at Cardiff will be there to watch just him - cheeky little dig at Bomber there. Could be fireworks between them at Cardiff
  8. I wish I had been drinking - I was at work when I posted that! No idea what I was going on about. Temporary moment of stupidity.
  9. Fantastic news - Sophie was always great when working for Sky. Nice to see her back and it's also great that Sky haven't decided to use Sky's current girl (I can't even remember her name...)
  10. Being completely honest, both Nicholls and Harris have had their chance at GP glory and both have hardly set the world alight.
  11. I'm just thinking in terms of common sense, but then again that doesn't generally apply with speedway so I'm probably wrong
  12. You would assume that the track are paid for the rental of the venue - If the track had to pay I'd imagine promoters with deeper pockets would lump the fee.
  13. Stranger things have happened, but I'm pretty sure this year that's not going to happen
  14. The star seems to be rather packed with riders and officials who don't agree with what's happened here... I still can't understand why we're not giving this spot to younger riders that want it more! It's absolutely preposterous! As Pinstripe mentioned earlier, lets just hope Harris gets a big fat 0 and that will finally be the end of it.
  15. Kennet's been in the form of his life since he moved to Swindon - his average over 2013 so far is over 9 points a meeting - Harris is struggling to hit 7! That should speak for itself considering that the first round will be in Britain.
  16. Fair point. Eddie Kennett suffered the same fate as well I believe - I saw Rosco talking about it on Twitter, he was saying how it's unfair that Hans could take part but his team mate could not. What a mess our governing body are making of our beloved sport. Those ivory towers don't look so nice nowadays.
  17. Just out of interest, what did Scotty say? What were his reasons for backing out? I will find out myself at about 5:30 when I get in from work as my copy will be waiting for me, I'm just eager to find out.
  18. According to Harris (a while ago) if he wasn't handed the wild card spot in the GPs, he's not doing the WC. This would give us 2 spots to fill. Personally I'd go for: Woffy Kennet King Cook
  19. How is Harris going to add value to the event? Harris hasn't added any value to a GP since 2007. I would very much like to think that somebody younger that wants it more would be a more exciting prospect than Chris 'I'm having problems with my bikes/crew' Harris would.
  20. Superb post JT - This is perfect in backing up everybody on this forum who believes that Harris was the wrong choice.
