Not according to the interview with Ablitt in the Star.. A two year plan was drawn up re team averages it states, hence they had planned in this seasons team and then had to make changes.. However, let's be honest, thinking a plan would last two years is probably a bit naive... Having plans lasting ONE year is an achievement sometimes...
-
It works both ways... Fans may not want riders back, but riders may want to be "essential" somewhere else the following year as their average could belie their true capabilities.. A rider who is a "seven point man all day long" on a five point average, (or lower), could name his own price I would think... You could also have teams definitely wanting "underperforming" riders back next season if two or three points lower than their "real capability"... If a couple of riders drop out of HL positions to SS and get replaced with two new HL's then a team can be transformed... 10 matches far too few to be realistic and far too easy to manipulate...
-
And if you are "cut adrift" by June, like usually happens to at least one team, then you can look to the season after and try and lose as many points as you can. Especially away from home so as you can keep your home crowd happy by still winning... You can get plenty or 3-3's too, with your best rider running a third and not having his bonus point impact his average...

Well, partly it probably was... They would have either proposed how the rule was written, or nodded in agreement if someone else had proposed its detail... Maybe it was one of those moments when a Promoter realises he/she/they (it is 2023), could make mileage out of something not spotted by anyone else...? Didn't some ex Promoters run a fair few successful teams using that tactic...

Predictions for Prem 2023 as teams stand ...

The Aces in Pole Postion then.. "He's one of our own".. "That Robert Lambert, he's one of our own"...... -
100% it did... However.. Ringers get brought in every week, so no different...

Absolutely. Never crossed my mind.. Although running the sport in a Mickey Mouse way, eg running meetings knowing several of the "draw cards" will be elsewhere, like so many have done over the last couple of decades as the UK power base eroded and overseas leagues took priority, will certainly have contributed to the demise of a fair few tracks I would suggest, as fans became disillusioned by what they were being served up.. As obviously everyone would... And no reason not to if the clubs plan in their seasons well and dont shoot themselves in the foot by running meetings knowing riders will be missing. (Like happens far far too often).. And no excuse either this year given so few home meetings to plan in for each team.. Could be a potentially decent season for UK Speedway in 2023, with a good few Polish top league riders over here, meaning the Premiership can be pushed and marketed more, so even more important its infrastructure backs up that increase in quality...

Should still be an NDL rider... If a match is arranged knowing riders are already elsewhere then there should be some kind of "punishment"... Just another one of those self inflicted decisions that end up making the sport look contrived and Mickey Mouse when Bomber, Rory or Scott turn up adhoc to ride for one of the clubs on show.. There are enough issues to face given the structure of the sport in the UK without making more self inflicted ones...

To be fair... Well deserved... I have always loved watching every single one of them refereeing for our entertainment...

Indeed... It does look like GB Speedway now doesnt it, with plenty of similarities... Missing the days when they ruled the world, particularly with TRick, which generated strong national coverage.. Empty terracing everywhere, giving the impression that "no one is interested", and those who do attend being 40/50/60 somethings in the main... Play off places often sorted months in advance resulting in too many "dead rubbers" which fail to attract crowds... And meetings ran with very little atmosphere generated by anyone off track during the 90 mins or so of down time that naturally happens... You cannot see too many major sponsors lining up to have their names associated with something so visually lacking to the casual viewer, with a small number of ageing demographic of followers to advertise to... Are Bauhaus still involved? Should they go then it would be "game over" I would think..
-
The DU's should have one average... Their 2nd Div one timesed by whatever the conversion rate is... So if a six in Div One and rate is 150% then they are a nine point rider in Div 2.. It would immediately reduce the number of "big scoring" heat leaders per team and share them around.. No point having a conversion rate and not using it... They could even take the mean % difference between all the DU's and make that the following seasons conversion rate.. A true rate based on performance.. And I would also suggest it would highlight any "coincidental lowering of averages" in Div 1 quite easily given they would need to do the same in Div 2 to appear "legit"...

And what Leagues in Poland and Sweden..? Are all leagues in Poland included? Both leagues in Sweden? If the regulation quoted is verbatim then it is as clear as many usually are...

Just watched it... Superb....

They should be made to build the track and stadium at the Abbey site as that is the stipulation legally bound as part of the planning permission.. It doesnt even matter if it is viable or not to run Speedway there, as that is irrelevant as part of any planning permission requirements... And surely a track "up to 45 mins away" has to have less chance of being "viable" than a brand new one on the very site where Speedway has ran for decades? Absolutely no guarantee that this track "somewhere else" will be viable so what is there to lose by "staying put"?.. Surely someone is asking these questions within some kind of organised fans' pressure group?
-
But you have to park the new one 45 minutes away from where you live..
-
But you would have from Nov to March, 5 months of income and no outgoings... Keeping cash flowing through your business, and earning interest.. You can then use this cash to pay the bills created by such scenarios you describe... I would also suggest having this steady income may help any possible investors see the business as being on a sound footing...

The NDL of around 4 years ago was for me "the perfect level" for so many teams who struggled at a higher level to generate enough income to pay the riders of top league standard who compete in Div 2, eg Newcastle, Birmingham, Eastbourne, and even Worky themselves.. Used to love watching the Colts for a tenner and free for my U18 lad.. (Bargain)... Maybe if the NDL of four years ago was still in existence so would a few more teams? If it is a stepping stone to a higher league then great, but if it doesnt materialise and Worky make money, and develop talent they can then sell on by riding in the NDL for ever more, then it will never be a bad thing... Good luck to them and I look forward to going next season, followed by a "quiet night" in the town....

An amazing level of apathy... You can only presume Swindon Speedway isnt worth saving in the eyes of the majority of their fans and promoters..

Maybe clubs would get more mileage in running a membership scheme rather than Season Tickets? Eg £20 a month for 12 months and you get a free programme when you attend however many meetings there are.. Plus maybe several goes on the centre green per season to watch the racing..? Make the membership transferable for meetings the person paying may miss.. The benefits for the club are a constant cash flow, emails and communication details of fans so they can target them with merchandise offers, send them birthday and Xmas cards etc, meaning they stay in contact all year, not just during the season.. Maybe run prize draws too, once a month, to provide more interest and stimulate take up, cash prizes, merchandise, free food or drink vouchers etc... And non attendance on those "dodgy weather nights" is irrelevant as the money has already been taken.. For the fans they get to pay over 12 months so can budget and get to feel a bit like a "VIP" if the club runs the scheme well enough, seperate entrance, newsletters, etc thus making that so important emotional connection which stimulates loyalty.. A "500 Club" with fans paying £20 a month delivers £10k a month, and £120k a year..

Do they not know that a purpose built site should be built in Swindon directly on the site where Swindon Robins used to race by the very people looking for another site?.... Maybe someone should mention it to them...?
-
Wow... A near 54% price increase in a "cost of living crisis"...? Not sure that is the best idea, especially when a business such as Speedway relies on the "grey pound" so much... Hope it works out for them...
-
And you get emails from the BSN team, advertising their product, and making sure I dont forget they exist... Almost like they understand the way that to be successful today your online presence and targeted marketing is key... Who'd have thought that? Will be signing up as an extra Xmas present to my wife... I am sure she will be delighted...
-
With averages used that will have been delivered by riding at other tracks.. A 38 point overall team could be several points up on that at home if filled by track specialists.. Delivering big enough home wins to get the aggregate BP is the aim this year..

It's like the American Baseball version of the British Speedway Premiership Play Off Final... But with massive crowds, huge financial rewards, loads of publicity, everlasting fame, credibility and kudos...
