Sheffield V Berwick 6/4/17 Sgbc
crescent girl replied to allthegearbutnaeidea's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Used to be so, but they seem to have slipped another one in under the radar: 18.12.3 The Guest must be in a current Team Declaration and have an MA that is the same or lower than that of the absent rider. If a replacement SGB Premiership rider also has a current SGB Championship MA, then the higher of the MA’s will dictate the eligibility. -
Doesn't Rory Schlein race on a British ACU licence? Going back to the subject thread, once again Berwick were able to put a meeting on only -- to quote Ritchie Hawkins -- because they put down the covers during the day. Why, oh why don't other tracks do this? They are nearly all smaller, needing less covering material. Discuss.

Starring Skipper Kevin, Dany Gapp, Scott Courtney and Leon Flint. Plus some other folk from other clubs! -
Cradley or Birmingham might have come up, if invited for an inter-league challenge?

I can back our friend from Wooler on this. I knew the family, there was no brother. Just Johnny and his sister. Whosoever Peter Rodger is, he wasn't a brother. Although it would now be good to hear from anyone who knows who Peter was -- certainly not a name remembered on the Scottish scene, as far as I am aware?
-
Very sad to read of Johnny's plight. He desperately wanted to be a speedway rider, but it wasn't to be. He tried cycle speedway in Glasgow around 1971, then got a speedway bike. He later invested in a new bike, took it to the Coatbridge P&P (1973? 1975?) and broke his leg very badly. Didn't ride again until the next term, but didn't give up. He would surely have tried second-halving at Paisley, too? He definately had rides at Cleveland Park in Middlesborough -- hadn't known about Wolverhampton until now. Not sure about him going to Australia, but thought he'd tried his luck in South Africa about '79/80.

Darcy's column in Speedway Star this week lists most of the riders, and a very tasty line-up it is, too. But, as Fromafar correctly points out, it has nowt to do with the Rickster!
-
Absolutely --- at any time of the year! All sorts of donation possibilities -- see www.srbf.co.uk
-
No question that Ricky -- and Darcy Ward, and others -- deserve every support, financial and otherwise, our sport can give them. But that is exactly what the SRBF does. Speedway can be proud of the way its funds are raised, and used. Every supporter can help by giving generously to every collection at their home track, and by attending the BenFund Bonanza each spring.

Eh? What has the SRBF got to do with a Berwicky/Worky open meeting?

The club has invited all staff to a pre-season meeting at the Black and Gold on Sunday 29th January at 6.30pm. Co-promoter Dennis McCleary says: “Could stadium Stewards and regular First Aiders come along as well, please? “This will enable the club to sort necessary paperwork, etc ahead of the new season". SCB-registered officials should note that, If paperwork is to hand for 2017 from the authorities, this will also be available to complete that night. -
Wrong, my friend. I was at Foxhall Heath early in May,1990, watching Berwick gaining a draw against the Witches. Shane Parker and Chalky White were the home reserves, and were on the wrong end of a Heat 2 5-1 from Steve Widt and Kevin Little.

Berwick's fixtures for March (2 home, one away) were announced this week.

Mitch's NL average last season, when he was #1 at Coventry ahead of Liam Carr is around eight and a half --- about the same as guys like Dan Bewley, Ellis Perks, Danny Ayres, Ben Wilson and Tom Perry. If he's going to run at that level as a #7 in the Championship -- presumably as a 3 -- then I'd repeat it is a no-brainer to include him if the final rider's average allows it.
-
If his average fits with the final rider, Mitch Davey is a no-brainer for #7

I'm sure Taffy will want to direct the operation from the stand. Bring your own carrot? -

Thanks Steve, good report. Parking and programmes are also to be thought about, but looking at these figures gives an interesting sweep across the league. I like the simplicity of the "all meetings" deals, and also no quibbling about whether an over-65 is still working and stuff like that. Plus the "all kids up to 16 free, every meeting" which is one of Berwick's best innovations in recent seasons. -

Refreshing to see the new promotion are sweeping aside the way other tracks fiddle about with which meetings can or can't be watched with a season ticket. Every single meeting at Shielfield in 2017, league, cup, play-offs and any special open events for £249, OAPs and students £189 and all kids up to 16 absolutely free, every meeting. A serious question: Is this the best season-ticket deal in British speedway? -
