Same riders, but a few changes to the line-ups … I’m guessing Flint will be at #2, while Rowe moves to 6, and Etheridge (lowest average) is at 7. For the Witches, I’m assuming: Sayfutdinov, Thompson, King, Brennan, Doyle, Ellis, Edwards.

These are the Green Sheets for September, which means that Thompson is in the 1-5, and Ellis is at reserve ....

Thompson had five rides, and when the Witches were comfortable he ran a couple of lasts - I wonder if they miscalculated that would be sufficient? He could have easily run another last in Heat 15 just to be sure. Leicester kept Masters just below Becker with some tactical non-scoring.

A couple of times Harris has whinged on TV (TNT or BSN) about how badly he thinks a track has been prepared ... obviously that's coincided with him not having a great meeting. However, you wouldn't expect a rider with such huge knowledge and experience to not be able to adapt to differing conditions ...

It's only your "best" rider forced to be at #1 because of the Rolling Averages. It's a made-for-TV-rule that needs to be relaxed, at the very least to enable the Team Manager to put the top average rider at #1 or #5.

The absence of Ellis will make a difference. Definitely need King to be on it, and hopefully Harris will be in a huff because the track isn't exactly how he wants it.

I have never considered passes off Bend 2 as actual overtakes - they're part of the opening of the race unwinding. I appreciate that it's subjective. As for crowd figures ... nobody knows them. Again, any estimates are not only guesses, they are also subjective - ask 10 Ipswich fans and they'll have different ideas. What BV fans consider to be a good attendance at the NSS will also vary.

But ... why only for a draw? What's wrong with 46-44, 47-43 or 43-47, 44-46 - the losing team has the opportunity to pull back some points in a thrilling end to the meeting. What if some teams never see a drawn match, and others have two, three or four? What's so special? Indeed, if the BSPL likes to have an extra heat, why not have an extra heat anyway?!

Part of Regulation 10.3: “In the Premiership and Championship Leagues a rider taken out of a team through injury cannot be re-declared in that team, within 28 days.” This was introduced to stop teams from re-declaring “Willy-Nilly”, and also to be fair to whoever was brought in to replace them - hence the replacement has become known as being on a 28-Day deal. To be fair to the Witches, Jenkins had a nasty injury and it wasn’t clear how long he might be out.

I reckon the best pass Monday night was Heat 5, when Kurtz drove off the inside of bend 4 to pass both Pickering and Morris. Not close-your-eyes-wall-of-death bravery, but well-calculated intelligent riding.
