  1. Emil really does need to win a individual world championship. He surely doesn't want to go down in history as another Russian that nearly won a world championship. Plechanov nearly did it, Chlinovsky almost did, Emil nearly has.... but to be the first of your nation must be a big prize.
  2. m a bit like you Moxey63, long track can be processional, made better by there usually being 6 man races, and of cours when a top rider gates poorly (ie Peter Collins) then it could be all action.
  3. I think it would be good to have 2nd halfs return, except not 2nd halves, run them straight after the main event. May well only be 3 or 4 races for "local" juniors who want a bit of track practice. Running straight after the meeting may mean they will have a "crowd" watching them.
  4. Re parking - its been quoted on here in the last week that official parking is via pre purchased ticket at the school next to the new stadium. You need to contact Belle Vue speedway office for that OR at the Etiad stadium (Man City football ground) which is £5 per car per day, no tickets required. Re Google maps - the maps mostly are about 3 years old, some places (like where I live) must be at least 6 years old. To update them they would have to fly over the area (manned or unmanned) and take new photos. Seeing as these are world wide maps somehow I don't think they would be doing that for every new stadium, shopping precinct, roundabout etc. etc. I think we are fortunate to have what we got access to and all for no cost.
  5. Difference between Nicki and Lambert as I see it is that Nicki said he wouldnt be available for (at least) Round 1, thats last Saturdays match. It wasnt practice he was missing, it was actually a qualifier. What we dont seem to know re Lambert, is when was the practice day arranged? If it was after he had arranged his holidays then its a tough call to say he should be out of the team. Also, maybe Robert thought he wouldnt be picked fore the team. After all, more then a few on this forum wasnt picking him for the team. And even if he was sure of getting reserve spot he unlikely to get a ride, so his experience of BV track in British final would be suffice till he got to official practice on the day.
  6. More a case of you could buy just Saturday evening, or buy Fri/Sat together (at a bargain price - just £5 extra for Fri where I am sat) but you couldnt just buy Friday evening ticket. Many people would just buy Sat evening meaning tickets left over for Friday. Obviously they were trying to tempt people to go Fri and Sat, both nights are televised so in best interests of speedway to have a good crowd there Friday. Be interesting to know what they are charging for Friday evening sitting in East stand (the temporary stand. I reckon it will be a bit more then the £5 I paid (joint buy with Sat eveningl) but it still will be a bargain to see what will be a very good "final chance" meeting.
  7. I always assumed practice was essential part of being competative but apparantly not. Chris Harris must miss half of all gp pratices due to riding Friday in the UK and King said Cardiff on Saturday night was nothing like practice on the Friday, hence two rides with nil points. So whats the benefit of practice.
  8. A search on the internet produced this link from this forum..... may not be all british riders, but still riders who are sadly no longer with us. http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=60461&page=2
  9. Killed on the track 1 Derek "Tink" Maynard, Belle Vue rider, killed at Norwich I think in the 60's. A collision with his team mate, sad. 2 I read in the Kenny Carter book there was a rider killed at Ellesmere Port in the early days of KC career, lost control and hit the track tractor - maybe why now tractor/graders go off the track to park. 3 Wasnt there a rider at Poole, just dropped dead when racing, not an racing accident, just something burst inside him causing instant death, they reckoned he was dead before he hit the track. Read it, cant remember name or when.
  10. I can see GB second if Aussie/Denmark/Sweden/Russia dont dial in to the track. Of course Fricke has the track experience and can pass that knowledge on to his team mates. Its going to be closely fought out on Saturday, and Friday for that matter.
  11. Some peoples standards must be very low if they find swearing the norm and acceptable. I can go a whole week and not hear a swear word, I can go shopping, to the local market, eat in a pub, mix with friends..... but its only when I switch on the telly that the swear words come across. Good job there is a button on the remote that I can press to move onto a different channel.
  12. How old are those yanks?? Where are the youngsters that have been around last couple of years?
  13. Is the park and ride price per car or per person?
  14. Our car park tickets at the school for the 2 days were delivered on Saturday23rd
  15. Last night I think Russia only had a 4 man team - no reserve, so no under 21 travelled. Think you would have some boring races if you put an under 21 into the team - not all under 21's are like Znarzlik was.
  16. The East stand looking really good. Just hope toilet facilities and decent food are as good. Nearly forgot..... need good sound system too.
  17. Think that way, robert72, and top riders would never retire because their experience, their history, will always be at a higher level then most of their opponents. Bomber has had his day, hes been on the rostrum, won a GP (how many years ago, which all adds up as something he and speedway fans can treasure - but today he is clearly not the competitor he once was. Take his third place podium in Prague this year. He did well to get third, but I saw a review of that meeting recently and whilst he scored the points to get the prize, in some races he was well behind (but still in the points). Whereas at Cardiff Danny King was in what many would say was the race of the night, and 7 from 5 rides is pretty good for a non GP regular.
  18. Dont know why you grumbling, Poland had the best reserve there anyway. As the rule is that a reserve can only ride if a team member is injured or not well (as judged by an official) then there is always a good chance that the reserve may well not get a ride. Its not as if a reserve could be used as a tactical substitute. So let a youngster be at the meeting soaking up he atmosphere. On paper, Poland had the best team last night, probably the best team in the tournament, and the oldest was 24. Its not as if any of these "plenty of great senior riders" had been picked anyway. obviously Polands team manager is looking to the future, that team last night could be together for 8-10 years easily, apart from one thing - Poland has "plenty of great youngsters". Your team manager is obviously looking to the future - so should you.
  19. Emil topped the scoresheet tonight in Round 1 WTC in Denmark. 6 rides, 5 wins, including a win when he was tactical sub and Russia played the Joker - so 18 points in the bag. Those going to BV next Friday for the play off are in for a treat.
  20. Important meeting tonight, adrenalin must have been flowing, probably plenty reasons for getting high, but no swearing during interviews. It can be done.
  21. Re Heat 18 - I agree with the ref, but that makes me in agreement with SteveS which I never thought I wold be. When you see the start from the back its clear Zmarzlik was out of order. Fundamentally he was the reason the race was stopped. Re SteveS- apart from mentioning Emil coming last in his second ride, not a peep from him that Emil was top scorer of the night with 5 wins out of 6 races. If Emils GP WC boat has sailed he must have jumped ship and got onto a speedboat instead. Looking forward to seeing Emil on Friday at the zoo - er I mean the NSS.
  22. So if the language Tai used at Cardiff is the "norm" these days, why was it just this week Bob Geldoff at some outdoor music festival in Basildon got booed for his continued use of the f word. Also BT Sport showed highlights of this years GP series so far, of course they featured Cardiff and not a mention of TW and his "famous" call to the crowd.
  23. I think only 6 can practice, from which the 4 man team plus under 21 reserve is picked. and whilst the squad of 10 is known, Roscoe has not yet named the 6.
