Grand Prix Millenium Stadium June 30th 2007
SCB replied to ghostie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I tried to help a friend find somewhere in Newport. It's almost impossible. You'll pay a premium but you could try the Celtic Manor (the other side of Newport, so about 20 miles) if you're desperate, just had a look and 2 nights GP weekend for a family room is £230. You could always get a few of your party to sleep on the floor and just pay for the one room! The good news is they do have rooms! -

He said after not before. TBH, I'm not sure where to go after the meeting. -
6 Riders In The Swc Teams
SCB replied to treborbee's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Back in the day (early 90's) didn't the WTC (as it was back then) allow teams to name any rider as reserve? I say go for it, if teams want to put Gollob/Nicholls/Crump at reserve they can, but they may lose out if a couple of riders get injured later on and they have given the reserve all his rides. -

LOL. You have no chance of getting into a hotel in Cardiff now. It's also quite hard in Newport now it seems. Regarding seating, I'd avoid the bottom tier but I know people who love it down there. Just seemed quiter and lifeless down there when I was there, I was the only making any noise and I was getting funny looks for using an air horn. Personally I loved sitting on the front row of the middle tier a few years back but owing to the fact I'm too tight to buy tickets in advance thats not really an option now, so I sit in the last free row on the top tier. That way I can run, jump and generally be a nusance without getting in anyones way. Also means going to buy beer and go to toilet is a lot easier as I'm not stamping on people toes. And if them Poles who run around the back think they have big flags, they can watch out this year -
New Points System For Gp 2007
SCB replied to tomazpozrl's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
No it won't, not always. The guy coming last in the semi final gets nothing extra. Plus it's unfair, two riders could both score 7, one by scoring 3310R and another by scoring 2221R yet they both beat exactly the same riders, it just so happens that the one guy got the easier opponents all in the same heat to give him a heat win. Why shoudl 2 riders who have scored exactly the same, beting exactly the same rider see one of them get an extra point just because of a random draw? What more has he done that the guy who scored 33000? Scored 1 point more, so he gets 1 GP point more, no, not any more, he may get 2 points more, get the difference between two guys scoring 5 and 6 is still only 1 point. I've never understood this facination to give the riders in the semi's more points! -

Jason Lyons Dinner & Testimonial
SCB replied to BigFatDave's topic in International World of Speedway
When is this meeting? I hope Jason gets a gpod crowd he deserves it. I remeber being in Manchester the night of Jasons UK testimonial, sadly, I was flying through the air at about th time the last few races would have been taking place, I did try look out of the plan for the track but I could see nothing. Had we landed sooner we were going to try and make our way to see the meeting. -
Frank Smart can ride the white line well though, so don't count him out.

Surely GB has to do one of two things here, Havvy or a youngster (Kennett or Bridger). This is an extra place where we can take a bit of a risk and Havvy has never let us down any way. -
LOL. The guys still as mad as ever then!

Actually, Scott would be 8th, as Hans Andersen doesnt count. So he would have qualified. Not bad when you consider he missed a GP. -

Have you read the new rules? The guy coming 3rd in the semi gets 1 (THATS ONE) extra point and the guy coming last gets 0. So making the semis hardly adds anything extra. Yet it becomes a joke that a rider could score 15, then have EF in the semi and have 15 points, another guy scores 6 and then comes 2nd in the semi yet has 8 points, but he gets to ride in the final then he wins the final so he now has 14 points. So the guy coming 8th in the GP has 15 points but the guy winnig it has 14! What a joke! You can see it now, GP 2 and they announce that Crumpy is leading the Championship but Nicki Pedersen won the first GP!! WTF?! -
I'm affraid I don't know the name, I was just appaled that Lora and buzzy bee where dragging me into such a seedy establishment

So you mean the Speedway Forum posse will be coming across to your country of residence and won't be popping along to say hi! Some people! -
As long as you stay within a 5 minute walk of one of the squares (Wenceslas or Old Town) you're clsoe to most things. Wenceslas Square is a LOT cheaper than Old Town Square and seems to have all the "caberet" clubs, just walk around both and you'll be invited into many clubs, never just say yes and go in, even if you wnat to go in! Say no, try and get in cheaper or get extra drinks The choice of food and drink is quite varied and there's plenty of it at very good prices, there's a few more expensive places but they're still good value by UK prices, depends exactly what you want really. Just don't eat or drink by the Astrological clock! I think we paid about £3 for a beer! Fun game to play is which person in your group gets offered the most charlie whilst walking around the squares! They're clearly the one that looks most like a smack head!

Oi, Sheila, quit ya bloody moaning and bleating! You post the results, if one or two people can't see that you have acknowledged the source thats their problem, not yours. Most of us apreciate the work done by Ron and Shona to get the results online and you Sheila, putting them on the forum.

Advice Please. Best Gp For 1st Ever Visit
SCB replied to scotty2hotty's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Prague works out about £15 for a standing ticket in with the mad Poles and a programme. A beer is about £1.10 outside the stadium and the extortionate price of £1.50 inside the stadium If you're in the centre of Prague you'll need to get the tram to the stadium, which costs about £5 for a 3 day pass (thats trams, busses and the metro). I recon you can spend a week in Prague for the price Travel Plus are charging in this weeks Speedway Star (I include food and drink in that!) if you do it yourself. I think most people seem to prefer Bydgoszcz. -
How the hell will that help him? He'll start on 8 and need a work permit. He needs some European in him to avoid the work permit issue and some British in him to get a 3 point average.

AFAIK, it's rarley the engine that causes a stopage (you tend to know when it is as it goes bang and you see smoke), it's nomrally chains, ignitions and carbs that go wrong. With my limited mechanical expertise I'd say it's unlikely an engine would stop twice but the ignition or the carb could cause problems through out a meeting.

Who Will Be World Champ In 2007?
SCB replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'd be happy to see a 2 way battle between Crumpy and Hans this year and I think we'll see exactly that. I think Crumpy just has the upper hand though. Regarding Chris Harris, he's going to have some terrible GP's but I just hope he can have a few good ones to prove his worth, preferably the GP's I'm at Just can't see Nicki winning another title, he's not been close since his win and has rarely come across as a threat. -
They're sure to boot him out next year as he'll struggle to make the top 8. They'll probably give Stead ago, then the year after give Kennett ago but never actually give any of them a chance to settle in the GP's. The Puk for a year thing still confusses me!
-
I don't care how they do it, I just think the GP in Cardiff should be the Welsh GP. Then we can have Phil Morris as a wildcard! We might let Bomber have a reserve slot.
-
I think Leigh Adams could do another 5 years in the GP's and still be a top 5 rider. He's so calculated and thats what keeps a rider going for so long. The guns blazing riders tend to drop off sooner, so in that respect, it may be no bad thing for Tomasz Gollob to retire from the GP's after next season.
