Edinburgh v Glasgow Friday 6 September 2024
SharpenRake replied to SharpenRake's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Out of interest who would you have picked to be Glasgow's guests? -
And despite being average could still, mathematically, get into the play-offs at the expense of the Comics. C'mon the Gladiators.
-
With the Monarchs suffering from injuries and Glasgow's Leon Flint away on SGP2 duty, apparently, this could turn into a who picks the best guest (s) competition. And with many teams racing the choices are limited to riders from Berwick, Plymouth and Workington if chosing from the Championship. Just lucky that Edinburgh managed to fit the fixture in rather than having to go off night.
-
Danyon rode well, Matic didn't yet we still managed to win. And it was a brilliant night of speedway, credit to both teams and the track staff. It even stayed dry. Gotta try and keep Bomber, Leon, Anders and James for next season and it would be nice to also reward Jack with a place. All will depend on the points limit.
-
This is too close to call. If Glasgow are to win and take the bonus point it needs Matic to ride like he did in heats 3 and 9 against Edinburgh. If he rides like he did in heat 14 we have no chance of winning never mind taking the bonus point. Also depends on which Danyon turns up - he could be a match winner for the Bears. Whatever happens it should be a brilliant night of speedway AND its dry!

Championship Pairs Oxford 16th August 2024

But that's not the rules! The rules allow Anders Rowe to appear. You disagree with the rules and I'm emphasising the potential outcome based on your, in my opinion, illogical suggestion. -

In essence you are saying Jack Smith should have been Chris Harris's partner? -

Steve Worrall is ill otherwise he would have been Bomber's partner. Anders Rowe was signed to replace Steve Worrall; Anders average is lower than Steve's. So Glasgow haven't been strengthened by Anders being signed. Glasgow were not pulling a fast one or taking advantage of ambiguous rules. They replaced a rider rather than going down the route of guests - most fans hate guests. Having replaced the rider why shouldn't he then take his place in a pairs competition representing the side he has signed for? Well done to Anders and Bomber, 3rd place was more than I expected. Also hope that Charles and Scott are both OK after their 'coming together'. -
For a more accurate report of what happened: Heat 6 Wood moved before tapes went up, under the rules, automatic restart all four with warning to Wood. Once tapes went up Wood then lifted and cut across/clashed with Jack who crashed entering the bend, under the rules automatic restart, rerun all four or potentially Wood excluded. The ref chose the former. Heat 8 Movement at the start, under the rules, automatic restart. Once tapes went up possibly first bend bunching (not a rule) so unsatisfactory start or Smith excluded. The ref chose the former. In the re-run Smith rightly excluded so no impact on the score.

No one knows how things would have panned out, the main issue is that Ms Horley had an absolute shocker.
-
Horley is a total joke

Maybe the bandits and Stewart Dickson will do us a favour and beat the Comets home and away

On the one hand it's great that Leon is being recognised by the UK governing body by selecting him to represent the UK at the European Pairs Championship. However, to pick a rider who has an important league fixture in the UK and whose Championship average is less than 8pts does seem a bit bizarre. I'm surprised they didn't pick Bomber and Jack Smith as well.

And one thing you can say about most Poole fans is that they are honest and truthful. -

Even more massive than that. Despite that, no doubt it will be Poole's biggest crowd of the year as they are from a PR point of view taking on last years champions. -

Interesting that Celina, albeit in a 3 person race, wins heat 14 in a time quicker than Craig Cook in heat 12 and Richard Lawson in Heat 13. -

Just a reminder you can buy tickets in advance online, saves queuing or on the night. And before anyone asks this meeting isn't being streamed. -

Perhaps we could have 2 races? One before the meeting for the toddlers and one for older kids after heat 10? And, as they can run quicker, the race won't take so long.
