  1. Tigers probably got this at reserve, Vinny scored around 7 last season and went well. Haven't managed to adequately replace the points he is capable of especially at home. Another tough competetive meeting for the Comets. Need everyone contributing in the top 5. Track should hold no fears for Max but will his equipment be fast enough, he was certainly underpowered on his home debut. Hopefully we have no mechanical failures this weekend can't afford to gift points to the Tigers if we are to keep it close. UTC ! Like Glasgow Comets only have 7 home fixtures left and season only started ☹️
  2. After looking into this further I now believe the referee made a mistake . He could not have noticed Grmek had accidentally detached his kill switch otherwise he should not have started the race with a dead bike at the start. Once he started the race and Grmek wheeled his bike off the track it should have been treated as a retirement due to mechanical failure. I actually raised the kill switch issue through the open door of the refs box at the time, the refs reply was that Ben Barker had already committed an earlier tyre warming offence. Once he started the race I believe Grmek should have been excluded/ disqualified also.
  3. There is something called the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester, heaven only knows why it was called this. Touted as one of the best race tracks in the country and pretty central why oh why aren't the Pairs and CLRC being staged there. British Speedway is just exasperating.
  4. To be sure I think someone would need to look at the stream. The way I perceived it was the ref had noticed Ben Barker was illegally warming his tyre by spinning his wheel in the dirt at the start ( I noticed him doing the same in one of his earlier races ). This is a disqualification incident that allowed him to go off a 15 metre handicap. However, the ref started the race with all riders at the tapes. Anze Grmek accidentally pulled out his kill switch at the start and wheeled his bike off the track. The race got to the third bend if I remember right before the riders noticed the race had been stopped. Under the rules Barker was allowed to go off 15 metres for tyre warming. Also under the rules if a rider accidentally pulls out his kill switch before the race has started it is deemed to be an unsatisfactory start and the rider is allowed back into the rerun. Both things did happen. What I can't understand was why the ref started the race when he knew Barker was warming his tyre and allowed them to go 3/4 of a lap.
  5. Unfortunately there are question marks around what exactly is the situation re Craig . We have been here before as have many clubs over the years. Perhaps only the management know the true story, it is up to them to do what is in the best interests of the business, the team and the fans.
  6. I think the noise coming from Wimborne Road would be rather loud though if the Pirates suffered back to back home defeats 😃. The way I see Comets situation is that unfortunately Vinnie is a number of weeks away, Cookie who knows ? dislocated shoulder or rotator cuff injury ? . Rotator Cuff injury is potentially more serious and wouldn't really withstand the shoulder forces experienced riding Speedway , least not in the short term . We have two big meetings next weekend Glasgow away Oxford at home followed by Scunny at home on the 30th. Then it is likely we have no meeting until June 27th. To lose both meetings next weekend may be damaging to crowd levels so avoiding this scenario is probably priority. Then following the Scunny meeting two week later there is another two week gap so more time for healing of injuries. What would Poole do team changes or guests ?
  7. Absolutely. It was good to see the travelling Plymouth contingent yesterday.
  8. I think we may need 2 changes in order to bring in a stronger reserve. Vinnie on interview yesterday said his fracture was wider than he thought and that his physio scoffed at his suggestion of coming back for Glasgow away on friday so he sounds some way off. Our season could be over the way things are going. Back to back home defeats backs this up.
  9. It wasn't the first time imo, I seen Mr Barker doing it in one of his earlier races. I thought the standard of refereeing was questionable today. The heat when Tate, Nicholls and Batchelor got to the first corner together Nicholls was in the middle and looked to be getting the elbows out, Tate went down just as they were turning the corner, the ref didn't put the red lights on. Tom Spencer then went into the airfence on turn two the ref then put the lights on. He subsequently decreed an unsatisfactory start and excluded both riders. For me a fair decision would have been all 4 back . Tate went down purely as a result of first bend bunching so to exclude both riders I thought was definitely unfair on Tate.
  10. Re watering, I know what you are saying about 6pm starts and of course its valid but only to a degree . I have seen many dusty meetings that have started as late as 7-30pm at tracks such as Oxford , Poole and Redcar to name 3 that come to mind so it would be unwise to suggest that a later start will be the end of dust. If we fail to get enough moisture into the base, it won't be. You quote last week, however there were a couple of variables that made last week different to this regardless of earlier start time today. 1. We had substantial rainfall friday evening that got into the base and 2. The track was visibly wetter at the 6pm start time than it was today suggesting we either put more water on and or were helped by the existing track moisture level when we started watering. Even though the track was on the wet side to start with last week, after 4 heats it was perfect. This contributed to a very good racing surface with little or need for subsequent further watering because the moisture went deep into the base. Compare that to today where we had dust in heat 1 . Personally I consider dust avoidable because some tracks manage it . When it has been dry in the days leading up to a meeting then ideally you need to know 1. The optimum pre meeting time to start watering and 2. The ball park figure for the volume of water required over this time period in order to get water into the base. Weather variables such as temperature and wind speed play a part in drying the upper layers but the moisture level in the upper layers can be easier controlled during watering breaks, while moisture should also be drawn upwards from the base via capillary action. Having baseline figures for the above should make for more consistent moisture levels at meeting start times. The plus side of this should be a more enjoyable experience for customers, in terms of dust suppression and conduciveness of the track in producing better . Maybe this a bit too much of a scientific approach to something that appears relatively simple but it always strikes me as surprising at how many clubs don't seem to mind covering the fans in dust while 'treating' them to a quality of racing that could be better.
  11. I'm just glad there is a Speedway Stadium there and long may there continue to be so.
  12. Another tough meeting for the GT Tyres Comets. Track specialist Danny King and a very much in form Scotty Nicholls form a strong Gladiators spearhead. Both riders dominated heats 13 and 15 at Glasgow last night. This is very much going to need yet another big team effort if we are to bag the 2 points. Good to see Niklas back and today would be very timely for him to produce his best performance in the big C. Thanks in anticipation to Mitch Cluff whom I hope performs as well as he did when guesting for us against the Bandits and to Mickie Simpson who if he can beat Tom Spencer will have done all we ask. Come on you Comets, we need to start our home league campaign off with a win so give it your all guys and scrap for every point ! UTC.
  13. Surprising what the threat of the sack can do 😉
  14. Yeah, I expected JJ being in 15. Hope he's okay. Thought the riders done really well, better than I expected to be honest . Like has been said guests and R/R is far from ideal. Thanks to Ryan Ingram and in particular Daryl Ritchings for taking the guest bookings.
  15. Saddened to hear about the passing of your Dad. I didn't know him personally and often wondered he was because of his many posts. I certainly wondered what had happened to "Jenga' when his posts disappeared but soon came to realise he had reinvented himself as j20hh , the writing style was unmistakeable 😃. Sorry to see another Comets fan has gone to the speedway track in the sky and no doubt he will be keeping his eye on the forum !. You really must pay a visit he probably would have wanted you too. RIP 'Jenga'.
  16. On the face of it looks like Poole had prepped the track to be gate and go and it worked because apart from NK the Bears struggled to come out of turn 2 in front, it was all over after that. I know it has been discussed many times on here but Poole don't have to cover their paying customers in dust and prep a track that provides very little in the way of entertainment when they build such strong teams.
  17. I haven't seen any close footage of that incident, it was dark looking from the south end of the grandstand. Unfortunately these incidents happen at times when you have young inexperienced racers who lack no fear. I felt for both riders but more so Reid whose injuries appear much worse. He was showing such great early promise which i'm not surprised at having watched the Aussie Championship Series on BSN. I hope he will be back for you guys sooner rather than later especially as he did not require surgery , and that shows no ill effects physically or to his confidence.
  18. Well done the Monarchs, I thought the Tigers would have had just enough to get over the line today. Sounds like you Tigers were a bit like the Comets yesterday, we only scored 2 points from 6 and 7, the same riders also had 3 of the R/R rides for our injured No2. We only failed to qualify for the Semi's by the fact Berwick have a 2 point better match point aggregate. If not for the dodgy Cookie exclusion reversal by the referee we would be in Semi's not too mention the missing Dan Thompson last night on stand by in Poland or whatever. I'm not bitter though 😃. Its a bit depressing to be out of the KO Cup and BSN already such is the paucity of meetings.
  19. It is frustrating, Comets were generally done to the first corner yet again by the Bears.
  20. He really enjoys the GT Tyres Arena and when in the mood which he has been on every visit so far I would back him to beat anyone in the Championship even if he didn't make it to the first corner in front. Kye Thomsen seems to have stepped up again this season, could also prove an inspired choice.
  21. Not on Saturday he won't. But don't know if any Polish commitments though.
