Workington v Redcar 02/05/26 6pm BSN series
SteelShoe replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well done the Bears best team won today, you caught us vulnerable and ruthlessly exposed our frailties. It is notable just how much Jody Scott has progressed since his 4 from 4 for the Bears last season after replacing Tom Spencer in the Bears septet. He has an able ally at reserve in Ace Pijper and it was the 17 points from these two that won the meeting for the Bears. Somewhat surprisingly Jake Allen decided to turn in his best meeting at Northside, same rider only scored 3 points over two meetings for the Scorpions last season, must be the magic Bears race jacket that does it. Nicolai seems to save his absolute best for Northside, his race with Jonas in heat 15 was a bit special. Jonas has impressed with how he treats his racing and just what a fierce competitor he is, an absolutely joy to watch. Real shame we haven't managed to qualify for the semi finals after the hard fought victory at Scunny last night. Special mention to Steve Lawson, great track prep, with a moisture content that facilitated a high standard of racing throughout without any noticeable dust. 👍 -
We may have struggled to get anyone if this was indeed the rule. I do understand your POV though.

Young Ryan will be up against it. I hope he goes well. Redcar have two of the Championships form reserves. -

Guests invariably disappoint , like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. -
Cookie reported to have suspected rotator cuff injury. Serious if it is and may possibly be season ending.

Crack the vault open, door will be very stiff I would imagine but I have a big can of GT85 if required 🤣

With the speed of advances in AI its not hard to foresee that it won't be long until you will be able to do near real time modifications to video footage anyway so only official footage should be used. -

Yeah poor form from Greg Blair and and the referee. You are absolutely right about the sport, it actually denegrates amateur sport calling speedway amateurish. -
Looking very vulnerable today now, really need Tate to step up and the skipper to be on his best form to have any chance of avoiding a home defeat. Dayle Wood improved as the meeting wore on last night and was riding with a lot of courage until he suffered bike issues in his final two rides. Hopefully he has his bikes sorted and we can celebrate some points from him again at reserve. Please support your team today, I believe that although weakened we will still see some entertaining speedway and that is what it is all about. UTC !

Bandits v Comets KO Cup 1/4 Final Sat 25/4/26 7pm

You mean you could actually hear him on that side.We must have been in a sound dead zone left hand side of the back straight stand then, thats why we moved to the main stand to hear what was going on. Comets were anhialated from the tapes in those first 8 heats. The score of 39-9 on the program was certainly unexpected and unwelcome in the first leg of a KO Cup tie. The decision by the ref to change his mind in heat 4 and exclude Cookie after previously excluding Reid Battye was shocking. Kildemand was imperious for the Bandits on the night and I couldn't understand why he didn't get heat 15. Huge task tomorrow but the lads owe the fans who made the journey a big performance. Hope Niklas and Reid Battye are not badly injured. -
What happens between the club, sponsors including those of the club and rider and the rider himself who are all now self employed is between the various parties and that is where it should remain. You obviously feel strongly about this so I'm sure this will feed through via a sizeable donation to Vinnie's gofundme fund raiser.

Luke manages to make the inside work well for him at Worky. He won the U19 final against Jody Scott and Cooper Rushen with 4 laps round the inside, think it had slickened off which helped him though. -

As you well know there is scientific reasoning behind most things 😃 Finally getting my early spuds and onions in this week, you doing owt? , thought not 🤣 Speaking about lawnmower's. I got the old faithful out yesterday for the first cut and it wouldn't keep running for more than a few seconds 😩. I usually drain the petrol out of it following the last cut but didn't this winter . I took the air filter out to give it a wash, it was just disintegrating and wet with petrol. The old Honda 425HRB has been in the family a long time, I paid good money to get it serviced a couple of years ago, looks like they never changed the air filter though. Going to service it myself if I can get the parts so you will have to cut the centre green, it will finally be dry enough sometime this week considering the dry forecast, I'll tell Andrew your booked in 🤣 -
When Max Perry rode for Leicester Lions Cubs when Comets joined the NDL in 2023 I had him down as a rider who had the qualities to go further eg good on the bike, a trier all the way to the flag with a bit of a racing instinct. Somehow he seems to have lost his way having been dropped by Poole very quickly in 2024 and then what was probably a pressure year in 2025 at Glasgow who were chasing silverware on more than one front. Many people consider him a weak reserve after his last two seasons but I would certainly be inclined to give him a chance if a like for like replacement for Jamie Etherington is being sought. Oh and just out of interest his scores for Glasgow at Berwick lsst season were 8 in the BSN and 9 in the Championship, granted he never repeated those feats often enough.

Never really been impressed with Ben Morley.

I think granite dust mixed with shale on speedway tracks is aimed at binding the materials together with a view to improving structural integrity of the racing surface while still remaining free draining . I think the idea is that the angular granite particles slot between the shale particles increasing the structural integrity so helping resist the forces generated by speedway bikes. The free draining properties are great if the track is really wet, we have seen many times just how quick even after a good soaking it dries out very quickly, just wish the centre green dried out as fast 😃. The other side of the coin is getting enough moisture into the surface during dry weather in order to prevent a surface that looks wet but were the moisture does not go very deep and dust is created very quickly. There is no easy way around this unless the resources exist to facilitate a proper good soak of the track in dry weather starting many hours before even the day of the meeting. This in order to properly ensure that the deeper surface layers get adequately watered. As you rightly state evening meetings will help with evaporation but it may well not be the end of any watering issues. I believe two good bowsers wouldn't go amiss for pre meeting watering during dry weather. I watched the stream after the meeting and was surprised at how dusty it became very quickly probably around heat 6/7. Fortunately I was upwind during the meeting yesterday but on many occasions last season I wasn't and had to move in the early heats on many occasions. It is an issue that is worth exploring , certainly from a customer perspective. -

Entertaining meeting on a beautifully prepared track. The track changed constantly as the dirt moved out and the moisture evaporated quickly. It is a constant battle to retain enough moisture on such a wide track in full sun and breeze. The two Comet 5-1's in heats 12 and 14 both involving Cooper Rushen who fully demonstrated his superb bike skills and advanced racing brain for someone only 16 sealed the meeting for the Comets after it was all square at the interval with a few home fans getting a bit uneasy. The job was completed in heat 15 with classy win by Comets No1 Jonas Jeppesen from the impressive Josh Pickering with Cookie 3rd. Young Niklas started really well but appeared to suffer bike problems in his 3rd ride which probably curtailed his scoring. It was great to see Tate win heat 14 this can only be good for his confidence. The skipper started really well but at the sharp end of the meeting was on the wrong end of Scunny heat advantages in heats 11 and 13. The Scorps battled away with every rider chipping in at times. Stand outs were Picko and young Ryan Ingram at no7 whose progress is impressive. Good to see Captain Comet make a return, big well done to whoever it is 😉🤣 UTC. -

thrown the glass ball away and sacked gypsy rose lee . You can't be right all of the time and some of us are rarely right at all, I'm in the second category 🤣. Looks like my instincts were bob on regarding Reid Battye after watching the Aussie Champs series though. This ex road racer just had the build, style and racing instinct to make an impact and he certainly did that last night. Could be a tough weekend next week for the mighty Comets. -
