  1. If I remember correctly, when Bradford rode in the provincial league, they rode at the Greenfield greyhound stadium in Dudley Hill, less than a mile from Odsal. It was a typical stadium of its time, and now long demolished.
  2. Against the likes of Sheffield, that is not a competitive side.
  3. They could run the ndl fixtures as double headers with the championship fixtures.
  4. Clubs used to run every week with a 16 club British league, and still have spare dates for cup and individual meetings.
  5. So which are the six clubs who have said they will run in the NDL.?.
  6. If I were the Leicester management,I would be inclined to say to Poole, take the bloody trophy,we can't raise a competitive team, and to be honest,we don't give a monkey's about it.
  7. No stage on any grand tour race is 200 miles. You must be thinking of kilometers. Also, drug testing in cycling is more stringent than it has ever been.
  8. When Halifax 're-opened in1965,Long Eaton were the first visitors, and on a rainy night in front of 11.000 fans ran out victors by 41-37.Rim must have been riding that night, but it was a young Ray Wilson who caught the eye.I still remember that night,if only we could turn the speedway clock back to those great days.
  9. He had a second hand car dealership in Denholme, not far from Halifax.I think Dennis was possibly the second man in British speedway to use the ESO/Jawa speedway bike.I think Rim Malskeitis, and i have probably spelt that wrong,at Long Eaton was the first, although i stand to be corrected.
  10. So with Kinsley scoring nil,Buster would have had to pay somebody more money anyway.
  11. But as owner of both clubs,Buster would have had to pay points money for 90 points, irrespective of who scored them.
  12. Yorkshire television used to show the odd event, and sponsored the Yorkshire TV trophy, usually from Hull. Some of the footage is still on You Tube.
  13. Maybe the grass/longtrackers would be interested in the engines that become available, the rolling chassis should still be usable for speedway.
  14. Pehaps Bomber could get one,he knows all the tracks well.
  15. The weather forecast for the rest of the month is dreadful.Could be another fixture pile -up on the way.
  16. With big gaps between fixtures, you could probably find enough dates to allow two teams to use the stadium.
  17. Never mind the qualifier,he won the final at Coventry,in the rain, with the leg still broken.
  18. Look in the international section, for a list of French fixtures.
  19. Yes,it did used to happen in this country.I was friends with the guy who used to dish out the fuel at Halifax.
  20. It's funny how perceptions change.I used to think Sheffield was one of the best tracks in the country, with wide sweeping bends, but now people are saying it's too narrow.Has this something to do with the different style of riding needed for the laydowns,as opposed to the upright engined bikes.
  21. I thought Peter Adams rode for Stoke, please correct me if I'm wrong.
  22. It's only what most football clubs do,some bang it up from £20 to£25 on the day,and pay on the gate is very rare now in league football.
  23. Jess Halliday,at Bradford Greenfield,probably 1962 or 3.
  24. This mirrors the situation in the early sixties over the formation of the Provincial league. The then ruling National league threatend all sorts of reprisals against any National league rider representing a Provincial league side, but they soon came to realise the game was up,and National league teams started lending riders to Provincial league sides.I remember Belle Vue loaning Jim Yacoby, and Jack Kitchen to Bradford.Soon after the British League was formed, which in my opinion saved British speedway.Could history be repeating itself?.
