What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
TTT replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
We'll get a PREM, Just got to wait for the inevitable to happen. Northampton or Peterborough is the get out clause for CHAMP Clubs. If those avenues become a dead end, Then a CHAMP Club will be sacrificed even if they don't like it. -
Once the inevitable sacrifical lamb has been caught then we can get on with some signing announcements. I wouldn't be surprised if Teams were to go down the Sheffield 2025 route when they announced 6 Riders in 1 video package instead of the usual the drip feeding announcements that we normally get. Patience is key and the season doesn't start for at least 4 Months.

I'm sure PREM Clubs have got deals done behind the scenes. Imo they're just waiting for the inevitable 6th PREM Team to be confirmed before signing announcements are made.

Hence why he'd have to charge PREM Prices in One Big League......PREM Clubs will pay it as well because it'll just be the normal PREM Contract that they were already planning on giving to them in the first place.. Glasgow and Poole fans seem to think that they'll keep their big hitters for the same wages. -

What exactly are CHAMP Promoters going to do about it? Ban PREM Teams from signing a Rider on a 8+ GSA?.....Put PREM Clubs ACU Licenses on hold? Nothing they can do to stop the inevitable. Take our GP Riders away from us......Then we won't share the Best of British with you anymore. -

I don't like saying it, I'd love nothing more than to see it thriving again as it's the Best Sport in the World. But as we all know, We live in a World where everything revolves around Money. We need Barry Hearn or the Saudi's to help us out and neither of those are realistic. -

Got no chance of surviving tbh even I'll admit that. Other than some of the British Youngsters that we've seen as part of the RS scheme at PREM level our last chance is Will Cairns and possibly Cooper Rushen. -

I'm just being honest, Still if you believe in...... That One Big League will work when the Numbers clearly don't add up when it comes to Heat Leaders then so be it. That PREM Clubs will play second fiddle to CHAMP Clubs by putting out teams with Craig Cook and Troy Batchelor @ No.1 then so be it. -

Believe in what you want to believe. At the end of the day, Reality will just hit even harder. Bomber will be out of pocket by Thousands of Pounds and he'll need to find a way to recoup that Money. Example. Buster to Bomber......I need a No.1, Here's an extra £1,500 a Night which would translate into £39,000 over 26 League Fixtures (1 H & 1 A in a 14 Team League) Earnings would see a further increase once you add on Cup Fixtures. You really think he's going to say no when he's got a Family and a Retirement plan to think about? -

Just take the Rory Schlein / Berwick situation last winter as a prime example to see how it will end. Push riders like Danny King and Kyle Howarth away then it really is game over. -

That's the mentaility all Poole and Glasgow fans will have when it comes to their riders because they've gotten their own way with other CHAMP Clubs in the 2nd Tier for a good few years. Riders will ride for whoever offers them the most money as they'll have no choice but to maximise income especially someone of Bomber Harris' age who'd be losing Thousands of Pounds by being put out of a PREM Place due to One Big League. Bomber Harris is pencilled in for a PREM place at King's Lynn so if Buster want's him in One Big League then Buster will have him as he'll be saving a fortune on rumoured riders like Fricke and Kvech. PREM Clubs will have so many funds freed up to use on the Best of British and this is where the knock on effect comes into play for CHAMP Clubs if the PREM collapses. -

They'll just retire as they won't risk getting seriously injured at their Age when it would have a knock on effect when it comes to a regular paying job. They could be left claiming Universal Credit and other Benefits if they Broke a Leg, Fractured Vertebrae's etc. whilst taking part in a hobby that once was a career for them. Then what will British Speedway do when the Rider crisis deepens especially with the 2027 Polish Rule? -

No offence but you support Glasgow......The team that signs 4 Heat Leaders every year. Glasgow do the exact same thing to CHAMP Teams what PREM Teams do when it comes to the Oxford Spires and Birmingham Brummies. I'm all for a One Rider Over 8.00 Rule being introduced into the PREM to level out the playing field. -

No because the CHAMP and CHAMP Clubs can only operate in the way that they do because of the PREM. CHAMP relies on a Two Tier Structure just as much as the PREM relies on a 6+ Team Top League. 2027 Polish Rule is another reason why One Big League cannot happen, We'd already have a Rider shortage now in One Big League featuring 14 Teams as I highlighted this Morning in my 8+, 7+, 6+ GSA post. -

That I agree with, When we're down to 10 Teams. Imo it's not the time to do it when we've got 14 Teams as well as a couple of potential returns in the near future when it comes to Northampton and Peterborough whether that's in 2026 or 2027. British Speedway is on a downward slope granted, But it's still got a lot of fight left in it. -

One Big League is just mathematically impossible to work and I'll prove it with statistics. Including the following Riders.... Nicolai Klindt (Missed so many Meeting's due to foreign commitments) Craig Cook (Doesn't Turn Up) Villads Nagel (Same as Nicolai Klindt) Erik Riss (Said he's not Riding in the UK in 2026) Steve Worrall (Retired) Oskar Polis (Quit after a handful of Meetings in 2025) No. of Clubs (14) No. of Riders on 8+ GSA's (9)....After C. Cook and possibly Klindt (7) No. of Riders on 7.00-7.99 GSA's (12).....After Nagel and Riss (10) No. of Riders on 6.00-6.99 GSA's (11)....After Polis and S. Worrall (9) Team Building Rules and a Grading System would be irrelevant because no matter what idea they think of, The Mathematics still won't add up due to too many Teams competing in the League. Due to Rider Availability we will have no choice but to call out of depth NDL Riders up who don't even get a look in at CHAMP level in it's current format let alone PREM. Rider Availability worsens in 2027 when Poland introduce the One More League Rule. After all of thse problems, Clubs then have to convince fans to pay £20 to watch this stuff as they can't drop admission prices as they'll still be paying increased prices when it comes to rent costs and stuff because everything goes up in the world that we live in today. -

Grading system doesn't protect them either. The best riders on 8+, 7+ and 6+ GSA's will still all be signed up by the PREM Clubs. Just throwing something together as an example say 1 Rider on 8+, 7+ and 6+ Per Team. KING'S LYNN We'll have Harris, Rowe and Kerr IPSWICH We'll have King, Nicholls and Jenkins LEICESTER We'll have D. Thompson, Howarth and N. Morris That's the problem here, A handful of Teams will be struggling to put a side together that's anywhere near satisfactory. Bottom line is.....Too Many Teams and Not Enough Good Riders to go around. -

They'll have to use out of depth NDL Riders who don't even get a look in when it comes to the CHAMP in it's current format let alone PREM. -

Wouldn't be a vote as their won't be 14 Riders on 8+ GSA's to share around anyway so some teams will have to go without. That still doesn't protect CHAMP Clubs when it comes to Riders like Jake Mulford, Jordan Jenkins, Jason Edwards and co. as they're all on nice GSA's for the PREM Clubs like Belle Vue and Ipswich. -

So in the space of 24 Hours we've gone from.... Clubs don't want to move up beause of the costs all the way to CHAMP Clubs leaving PREM Clubs empty handed when it comes to bidding wars over big hitters in One Big League. Make it make sense. -

I know that, Hence why I'm ignoring it. Anyone who truly believes that PREM Clubs will play second fiddle to CHAMP Clubs is very much mistaken. They'll simply get revenge on the CHAMP Clubs....Take our GP Stars away from us and we'll take your CHAMP No.1's away from you. -

I was using the term Asset stripped as a figure of speech tbh. Either way CHAMP Clubs will be left chasing shadows after the PREM Clubs sign whatever Heat Leaders they want. -

TTT replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
PREM Clubs will just asset strip CHAMP Clubs of their Heat Leaders because they've got the Money to do so and as we all know in any Sport....Money talks. Riders will jump ship in a heartbeat as they'll be left with no choice but to maximise their income due to them being hit in the pocket by missing out on a team place at PREM level. It won't be Clubs like Belle Vue and Ipswich who'll line up with Riders like Craig Cook and Troy Batchelor at No.1. -

Most CHAMP Clubs need to tread very carefully here as they'll be the ones who'll end up in the mud if One Big League was to happen. Are Edinburgh willing to sacrifice rumoured No.1 Dan Thompson? Are Plymouth willing to sacrifice their No.1 Danny King? Are Redcar willing to run the risk of losing potentially 2-4 Riders of their signed up 2026 side? Are Scunthorpe willing to sacrifice their No.1 Josh Pickering? Going against PREM Clubs and a Two Tier Structure will have consequences. To quote a famous saying......Be careful what you wish for.
