I hope it’s Perry because I hope he secures a Championship spot next season. I don’t think many could argue against retaining Hodder at his expense, but if you could bottle Max Perry’s desire and effort, you’d make a fortune. He’s got the bravery to go wide, but I think physically, he appeared to struggle to control his momentum coming off the second and fourth bends; he subsequently often lost that momentum. He’ll be a great prospect for any club.

Hopefully he can find some sort of form because 2025 was an absolute disgrace from MPT. I saw him a few times and in his last heat at Ashfield, he done well to hold off Flint for two or three laps. Every single other race was a shambles; downed tools after the first bend. Up there with Ivacic in terms of Scottish speedways worst ever signings.

I don’t know his average, but Cairns at reserve will be massive for not only Poole, but the rider himself; it affords him time to develop at his own pace.

Really good start to the Monarchs’ team building. Had it not been for that ridiculous incident in the British U21 final, I’ve little doubt Thompson would have pushed Harris in the averages.

I do miss the days where riders had their own personally designed kevlars, but also appreciate the matching team kevlars look smart. The flashiest has to be Joe Screen’s old ones, IMO. Arm tassels and a big Union Jack covering his entire back. Anders Thomsen is also worth a mention when we’re talking. His white and gold is like drug dealer sheikh.

An excellent post. This great sport is down to its bare bones. We’re fast approaching a scenario where the Premiership and Championship resemble the old Champions League group format due to clubs dying of financial struggle. Speedway needs fresh blood on the terraces. It’s non-negotiable. It’s the only solution. If we move to an all-streaming coverage, then I fear it’ll be one of the final nails in the coffin for British speedway.

Villads Nagel has a remarkable style. Probably the most all-action style I’ve seen at Ashfield. He’s looking under his handlebars with his right leg in the air coming off corners. It’s cost him a few times, but with experience, he’ll have more control.

Lots of great suggestions, but given you’ve asked for only one, I’m going to go for Brian Andersen, former Coventry Bees’ captain and Danish international. A classy rider who I imagine looked as relaxed sitting in an armchair as he did on a speedway bike. He made it look easy. EDIT If I recall correctly, he won the British GP at Odsal in… 1997?
