  1. The world has not moved on in so much that paying punters want value for money, they want to see the worlds best riders on well prepared race tracks, and want good racing rather than the processions we get all to often nowadays. To think we should go back to black leathers, two valve japs and monkey masks is missing the point, going back would mean having the worlds best riders in the elite league, better racing on better prepared tracks and having a British team that could actually compete. Take football has it stayed the same for 50 years you ask well generally yes, the basic principle of the game remains the same now as when finney and mathews played, mind if they had brought in ludicrous rules like a goal counting double, an equivalent joker rule to be used in world cups etc it certainly wouldnt be taken seriously. The actual fact is modern day speedway does not hold the same appeal at all to the general public immeterial to what other activities are around, if the product was right people would support it that the crowds at the top level mainly fall below 1000 in many cases shows the sport has deteriorated dramatically over the years. Sometime you have to take two steps back to take a big step forward.
  2. Ah the good old days, remind me that was when we had packed terracing, all the worlds top riders in the British league, many more meetings, an abundance of world class English riders, dirt on tracks, great racing, team riding, and characters, not to mention far more press coverage in a sport not seen as a minority interest, yes why would we want to go back to that?
  3. Congratulations Somerset, well deserved, a super club i always enjoy visiting.
  4. Big well done to Tai, well deserved especially with the injury, lets hope the authorities can use a home world champion to take the sport forward.
  5. Well there was no junior track at Hyde Road and its fair to say that produced a string of top young locally based riders. Also theres supposed to be a workshop area where young riders will learn engine maintainance and settings so perhaps there will be better facilities for youngsters as the stadium is going to be a training centre for British speedway in general.
  6. As the speedway is already there and running noise wont be a problem, compared to the racket of F1 stocks the speedway is hardly deafening
  7. Ward needs some Sir Alex club discipline, can you imagine him coming out with similar comments if it was a Man U player? Fergie has eyes and ears all over Manchester and many a player has been pulled in after some incident the boss got to know about. As sir Alex says no one player is bigger than the club, i cant see middleditch applying that to his riders. Footballers get a bad press, quite rightly in most cases but i think the FA would take a sterner stance than the speedway authorities will.
  8. Im also a fan but wouldnt try to defend anyone associated with my club if they were in the wrong. Sometimes you just have to hold your hand up that a misjudgment has been made, you cant defend the undefensable just because they are associated with your own club.
  9. But middleditch is bringing others kids into the equasion with his ludicrous comments, and i certainly would say it to him personally.
  10. Dont forget Danny Bird who was lost to the sport through drugs, theres no room in British Speedway for drug taking at all, Middleditch,s comments are also ludicrous trying to condone these actions just because he can ride a speedway bike, he should not get a visa.
  11. On quite a few occasions josh rode better for the Aces than he did for glasgow, he had some very good meetings at KL, if he stays injury free he has the ability to be a big hitter.
  12. Congratulations to Scunthorpe on becoming champions, comiserations to Somerset for being so close. With Howe and Doyle both injured that sort of cancelled each other out, looking at the Rebels guest in Hall didnt think it was the best choice so they did well to get so close. R/R didnt get near to what a fit Howe would have scored, overall two equally matched sides going down to the wire. As for Darcey Ward tweeting about Somerset i think he has problems and if hes not careful it could stop him fulfilling his potential, he wont be the first naturally talented sportsman to go off the rails and fail to deliver.
  13. Harris is deluded if he thinks hes GP standard, hes had umpteen wild cards based on his nationality not his ability, its sad that we dont have any riders these days of genuine world class quality but i believe you should be in on ability not nationality. That harris is seen as the best we have shows the dire state of speedway in GB at the moment.
  14. If getting column inches in the media is dependant on the sucsess of a sport on the international stage as Philip points out with the express example given our pathetic football teams performances for the past 40+ years there should be no mention of football at all
  15. Harris is proof that the best riders should be in the GP irrespective of nationality, he isnt up to the level required england is now a third rate speedway nation, oh for another collins, morton, lee, simmons, jessup, carter etc
  16. Certainly the right decision, very wet not a chance of a meeting tonight.
  17. Charles Wright should do a good job but without Howarth R/R could again let us down against a strong Stoke side. Hopefully the forecast of intermittant heavy showers wont affect the meeting.
  18. My only reservations about this match is the state of the track, after the last stock cars it was ajoke against the iow, thats really making me think twice about this one even though i love the colts. If Howarth is fit i can see the colts turning this round albeit only by a few points as jon armstrong certainly knows his way around KL, Dudley are a strong side so hopefully the track will be better than the last time we had stocks and both teams can give it a real go, Colts to just edge it for me.
  19. It takes two teams to provide good racing, the fen tigers just couldnt get near the colts to even begin to make it competetive. Nothing wrong with the track its there to be ridden as proved by garrity, howarth, mckinna etc.
  20. Turn out didnt appear to be that bad, despite the score very entertaining with a lot of passing, especally jason garrity who scored a 15 max from the back. Well worth £10 of anyones money, looking forward to the next meeting.
  21. One of if not the best meeting last season featured NL riders, if the new stadium comes off as well hopefully the colts can increase the clubs asset base and if its half as productive as the old colts BV will be resurrected, heres hoping.
  22. No reason at all a bit more dirt couldnt have been added to the track to have aided better racing. Olsen has prepared ultra slick tracks throughout the year in the warmer months and with no threat of rain. Hes known for his love of the ultra slick, seen league racing at this time of year here with dirt on, thats the reason some people travelled unlike the stay at home armchair brigade, olsens tracks have as much on as his head zilch. Even though a good weekend away with a good time around the bars.
  23. Just got back from poland, good riddance olsen your a disgrace totally ruined a good race track with your usual garbage preperation. The track/racing was absolute garbage.
