  1. Even i was surprised at the amount of empty seats on Wednesday at the emptyhad
  2. Ive never understood the comparison with football, as you say fans turn out season after season even for clubs who are only making up the numbers and really have no chance of ever getting any success clubs like Fulham, Bournemouth, Burnley have next to no chance of getting top four let alone winning leagues fa cups, Palace only won their first trophy last season, no manipulation of team strengths to try to have all teams equal, but fans of the lower reaches clubs are there in numbers home and away, speedway lost that tribalism a long time ago.
  3. Yes there was great rivalry down there at that time, the sport was well supported at every level characters like Jack Milne were box office in themselves, its a pity the Bombers didnt have a longer existence, used to love going down to Hackney, Crayford, Eastbourne etc.
  4. Its ironic that when tracks host their last ever meeting the fans come out in force, i remember going to the last ever meeting at Stoke where the crowd packed it out the situation there was different but other tracks that have shut up shop probably wouldnt have if the last night crowd had been replicated on a more consistent basis. Be interesting to see if Northampton as a town get behind this new venture, maybe it might have a novelty appeal at first, its a huge investment to just bring in a team to make up the numbers this season. Out of interest did Rayleigh draw a crowd for their last ever meeting?
  5. I cant see Northampton attracting enough people through the turnstiles to make any huge investment worthwhile, Birmingham didnt attract many fans from Wolverhamton, Cradley Heath or Coventry when you look at their gates last season and they are in the middle of what was once a speedway hotbed.
  6. RIP Bob, a really good rider from the golden age.
  7. Be interesting to see where it draws a regular decent home crowd from
  8. If my Sainsburys stop stocking it i will just order it from the newsagents my friend does and recieves it Thursday mornings no problem, i never had a problem with postal delivery until last year
  9. Agree with you Glasgow in the losers category was a strange one, its a pity they didnt get it over the line in the last heat but when you consider the racing/entertainment factor between the two legs they were easily the winners, nothing about that club puts them in a losers category, yes its nice to win trophies but for me its great racing i pay to see winning is a bonus. Not a mention of Scunny well cant upset Rob
  10. I do but much prefer sitting on the sofa with a brew with a physical copy to reading online, just a personal preference
  11. Same with me after years of subscribing its so easy calling into sainsburys thursday morning and picking it up.
  12. That makes sense as if he was happy with 5 teams he would run Ipswich not sell then put money into something he wasnt happy with in the first place.
  13. I received my copy actually ontime for jan 3rd, first time since august a mag has arrived ontime, snce august ive gone 10 days to three weeks without a copy then three arrive, my final subscription copy is jan 10th from then on i will just go to sainsburys every thursday morning as its always in there.
  14. Reading the views on the british boxing forum their equivalent to this forum a lot of fans are having the same discussions as us about the state and direction the their sport, seems its not just speedway though we are in a worse state.
  15. Also the dubious judges decisions are starting to alienate regular boxing fans with many on the british boxing forum calling out blatant robberies and calling the sport corrupt.
  16. Yes thats an option but ive always prefered to sit down with a brew and a physical copy, where i am we have two postmen and see them a few times a day delivering up till 1pm theres also a delivery van so why the copies are so late ive no idea, its not as though we dont see a postman.
  17. Today after 3 weeks of no magazine three were delivered, this weeks i had already bought from Sainsburys, this poor delivery service has been going on since August hence the reason after 30 odd years of subscribing im not renewing. I wonder what the affect of this dire royal mail service will have overall on people buying the magazine during the winter months? I would recommend buying from the supermarket or ordering from the newsagents, the mail service is done.
  18. Thats possibly correct but i can remember no increase in admission and during those years the crowds were consistently into 5 figures, so there was no dependency on trying to bring in extra fans to cover for four races, the crowd levels today would not cover it i also dont think todays riders would travel from say Eastbourne to Manchester for 4 rides.
  19. I remember when riders would travel to an away track when their own team wasnt riding just to compete in the Golden Helmet and second half races. One meeting at Hyde Road Gordon Kennett travelled all the way up to Manchester for a Golden Helmet match race and a couple of second half meetings, could you imagine todays breed of riders doing that?
  20. Ive now gone 3 weeks with no delivery, this week im buying it at sainsburys and am going to continue buying it there, i received my subscripton renewal and my final copy on subscription is jan 10th there is no way im subscribing again thanks to the useless royal mail.
  21. Whats your take on the Eastbourne situation Dean? The stadium is owned by a speedway family unless the Dugards have sold it and by all accounts it could be ready to race on, it just seemed odd that a stadium that could reintroduce speedway and was run by a family steeped in the sport just sat there, if speedway cant get back into a stadium like this with the speedway connection i would think new venues would be really difficult.
