  1. I remember Peter Collins not turning up at Newport for a league meeting as Somerton Park was notorious for being rough, a breakdown was the reason given but later he admitted it was because of the track. We lost i think 45-33 or similar top scorers Phil Crump and Alan Wilkinson two riders who would ride anything. I remember Ivan Mauger replying when asked whats your favourite type of track " i have no favourites they all have to be ridden" spot on that.
  2. I said this wouldnt be a walk in the park when people were talking about 60-30.
  3. And its not exactly a Champions league as 2nd to 5th in the league table qualify for it.
  4. I think this should be a home win, but predictions of 60-30 hmm not sure about that, Ipswich are a team that has a solid look about it as they showed against Kings Lynn, our top two are a level above but i think if Witches are on it they can trouble our middle order/reserves. Look to pack the minor placings against Dan and Brady and who knows?
  5. I think despite what fans say he will be his own biggest critic.
  6. Have to agree, when i was down in Cornwall many businesses didnt accept cash, when i encountered one i just cancelled the order and walked out, i always to prefer paying cash, use it or lose it.
  7. I anticipated queues on the south stand so bought my ticket at the main box office which was very quick, i was surprised when i saw the actual size of the queue for the south stand.
  8. I think the rules governing concussion are not as strict in Europe as they are in the UK so Blodorn could ride over there but not in the UK. The rule for concussion should be standard throughout in world sport.
  9. Agree but if Northampton flops it could have the opposite effect on those groups trying to bring tracks back, it really needs to succeed to benefit the sport overall.
  10. I dont disagree with you i was reacting to a generalization not you directly
  11. Whoever wins the "league" there is no kudos to it is there? I think attendences are going to be woeful after this close season, its difficult to see how the sport recovers from this now.
  12. Riders complain about the costs but when ways of cutting the costs have been suggested the riders have been the ones who have rejected everything in their hunt for that bit more speed.
  13. And look at the impact spotify has had on musicians, listening to Mick Box for one they have taken a big hit.
  14. Hes more chance winning the premier league with Tottenham than restoring British speedways fortunes
  15. Even i was surprised at the amount of empty seats on Wednesday at the emptyhad
  16. Ive never understood the comparison with football, as you say fans turn out season after season even for clubs who are only making up the numbers and really have no chance of ever getting any success clubs like Fulham, Bournemouth, Burnley have next to no chance of getting top four let alone winning leagues fa cups, Palace only won their first trophy last season, no manipulation of team strengths to try to have all teams equal, but fans of the lower reaches clubs are there in numbers home and away, speedway lost that tribalism a long time ago.
  17. Sad news RIP condolences to the family
  18. Yes there was great rivalry down there at that time, the sport was well supported at every level characters like Jack Milne were box office in themselves, its a pity the Bombers didnt have a longer existence, used to love going down to Hackney, Crayford, Eastbourne etc.
  19. Its ironic that when tracks host their last ever meeting the fans come out in force, i remember going to the last ever meeting at Stoke where the crowd packed it out the situation there was different but other tracks that have shut up shop probably wouldnt have if the last night crowd had been replicated on a more consistent basis. Be interesting to see if Northampton as a town get behind this new venture, maybe it might have a novelty appeal at first, its a huge investment to just bring in a team to make up the numbers this season. Out of interest did Rayleigh draw a crowd for their last ever meeting?
