Wimbledon Dons...back from the dead?!!
WookieboyDon replied to WookieboyDon's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
You really are talking utter nonsense. Firstly, Wimbledon weren’t struggling after re-opening in ‘02. Where are you getting that from? Secondly, conveniently you have ignored my question of how you know those behind the proposed return at Coventry have no money. If you are going to make comments, either back it up or don’t make such accusations. Thirdly, as already proved to you, a businessman did touch speedway by bringing back Oxford and making it a success. Just look at the crowds they are getting. Way more than “half a dozen supporters”. It really is a shame that not only are you incredibly negative towards any new venue opening, but actually dead against any form of growth for the sport in the UK. And you’ll make up lies just to try and prove your spurious point. Bizarre. -
It still shocks me that people expect or feel entitled to be given immediate information on such matters straight away. It should remain private and confidential as long as those in charge want it to be. When the time is right, you’ll get your answers. And to those that say “Well I am the paying public, they take my money so I have a right to know.” Well, if your local shop that is family owned suddenly closes for the day and puts up a sign saying ‘Closed temporarily due to unforeseen circumstances’, are you going to bang on the door or phone them up demanding to know why just because you spend money in there?! No, didn’t think so. This should be no different.

Maybe Ben knows what’s coming. For what it’s worth, I think we need one big league, which at the moment looks like it will be 14 teams. Should be five riders per team like Denmark. And there should be rider grading.

Wimbledon Dons...back from the dead?!!
WookieboyDon replied to WookieboyDon's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Well, asking you to cheer up obviously didn’t happen did it? 🤦🏻♂️ The potential for Wimbledon returning is completely different to the situation they faced back in 2005. Also, I find it fascinating that you are fully aware of the finances and backing of the team trying to bring Coventry back. Are you their accountant gone rogue and are here anonymously, as you seem very certain that they “don’t have the money. They have NO chance” ??? Please, enlighten us all of why you are so certain. I’d love to see the proof. 🤷🏻♂️ -
Poole vs Glasgow 2/7/25
WookieboyDon replied to LisaColette's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
My take on tonight: -Poole even stronger with Will Cairns unsurprisingly. His arrival will have more of an effect on results than Nagel at Glasgow, whose reserves are too weak. -A poor track plus a Glasgow team who weren’t at the races out of the gate for most of the night equals that kind of meeting. -Christina Turnbull proves that she is still willing to pull her absolute clangers on the domestic scene, not just on the world stage. -Cairns is an enthusiastic lad. God knows what he’ll do after his first max! 😉 -

So much wrong with this…I don’t know where to start…😉 What I will say is…cheer up. It might never happen. 🤦🏻♂️ -

If only Oxford had listened to your negativity…they’d have saved those supposed ‘millions’ and left the site to ruin…🤦🏻♂️ -
Workington Speedway suspended for seven days
WookieboyDon replied to WookieboyDon's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Seems it could be to do with visas, hence administrative rather than financial. Check out the Worky 2025 thread for more info. -
Sad news. RIP Mike. Master of his craft. 🙏🏻

𝗕𝗦𝗣 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗧𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗪𝗔𝗬 Within the last 48 hours the Directors of British Speedway Promoters Ltd have become aware of administrative issues that must be resolved before Workington Speedway can compete again. A seven-day suspension of membership has been imposed to give them time to overcome these issues. Said BSP Chairman, Rob Godfrey: “We are happy with the progress being made by the Club in sorting these issues and I anticipate that there will be a speedy resumption to racing at Workington.” The suspension does mean that Workington’s matches at Berwick on June 28, Oxford on July 2 and Redcar on July 4 will be postponed.

The Beddington Lane site comes under Croydon Council. But, given their current financial plight, accepting donations will still be a major issue! 😉 -
Wimbledon Dons...back from the dead?!!

As I said, they already have go-karts and motocross there so noise shouldn't be an issue if it is the Beddington Lane site. And it's mainly industrial round there. -
Wimbledon Dons...back from the dead?!!
WookieboyDon replied to WookieboyDon's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Surbiton Raceway is a good shout but I don't think there is much spare land there to accommodate what they have planned. The only other place I can think of which does have additional land is where Traq Motor Racing go-karts are on the Mitcham/Croydon border on Beddington Lane. Not only does it have go-karts but a motocross track as well. -

There’s always one…🙄 -
The front cover of this week's Speedway Star has just been released. One of the headlines is 'Wimbledon...New hope for Dons revival.' MUST. STAY. CALM. My heart is racing just thinking that this could happen. I never thought I would potentially see us return in my lifetime, and tomorrow can't come soon enough to read about it.

SGP Gorzow 2025
WookieboyDon replied to aarongaleuk's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Turnbull pulls howlers for fun and has added another to her lengthy repertoire. DEI in all its shameful glory. 🤬 -
Neither am I. As soon as he was backing off going into turn one, lap one, you knew this wasn't bike problems or injury issues. When he is in fresh air he is dynamite. Hopefully we're wrong and we see him come back.
-
Correct. Had a very promising career in motocross before switching codes. Maybe he'll head back to his spiritual home?
-
Great talent, great signing. Makes you wonder what's next for Ashton? Time away from the sport?

Birmingham v Sheffield Mon 16th June PL
WookieboyDon replied to Brummies_Ste's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
That track was unacceptable and deserves a fine. And the excuse from Tolley doesn't make sense. "We couldn't water the track on Sunday as a trench had to be dug on the start finish line." What about the rest of the track?! Clown show. -
Offered much better money to ride in a better league in Poland which everyone would take (and if you say you wouldn't you're lying)...felt that track prep in the UK was poor and dangerous (which at some tracks it was) so no longer wanted to ride here...but it was his responsibility to stay and try and save British speedway?! Utterly ridiculous. The Tai bashing by some is so tiresome. Any excuse. It's just boring now. The guy is the most successful rider this country has produced, he has only ever wanted to see British speedway flourish, and our current status as reigning SON champions is down to him wanting things changed from the top down with Team GB. He instigated that. He championed it. Where we are now is due to him. So I'd say personally he has done the complete opposite of not helping British speedway. He has gone on record as saying he would love to further help the sport in this country, the guy is an asset that, if used by the BSPL, would help revolutionise British speedway. But the suits would rather plod along as we are, staring at the abyss...

Horrible weekend for the Witches.

Jason has just posted on Instagram. Has a bad gash to his cheek. Has dislocated his left hip and has taken a proper beating. But he says he will be back soon.

Seen the same reports. Sounds very bad for Jason.
