Flipping heck Dekker, me and Crazy Munchie in one day - you must be losing your touch!!!
-
Unfortunately Lupus you don,t seem to understand that there will always be winners and losers. If you give two people 10 grand each and tell them to go out and make their fortune one will come back with 20 grand & the other with nothing thats whats called "life".The problem with certain people in the BSPA is their negative thoughts and the continual desire to level down.If we take Ipswich as an example, they have been very succesful over recent years and have a retained list to be proud of.The fact that they have not been able to build on that success is hardly the fault of anyone other than the promotors of Ipswich Speedway. We are told that this new system is to encourage the new teams inthe elite league. Why should we?Terry Russell has his fingers in three tracks now, at Swindon he has bought the contract of Leigh Adams ,at Eastbourne he has a surplus of riders that will probably end up at one of the new tracks effectively keeping all his riders in work.He will be the big winner in all of this.At Coventry we have always built for the future,The introduction of Jonsson ,Janniro,& Fisher to Britain are the recent examples.Add to that the club has never been afraid to put their hands in their pockets to by a rider when necessary. Now if other promoters are unable or unwilling to compete on these terms thats, hardly the problem of Coventry Speedway, and now we are forced to dispose of two of our top riders who are not necessarily guaranteed to find other clubs . Who,s the loser there? Not the new teams in the league but the two riders concerned ,and the management of Cov and all the fans.I suggest you put your obvious dislike of the Bees to one side and then perhaps some" rational thinking" might be more evident. My post has nothing to DO with how I feel about Coventry and I really can't see how you can view the quote of mine that you used as 'negative'. I agree that the way this has been done is unfair on those riders who look likely to miss out this year, and I wish a better way could have been found to even the teams out, but your suggestion that Coventry should be allowed to track whatever team they want, regardless of how that affects others, is just laughable. Just HOW desperate to win something are you?!!! For the first time EVER I have to agree with Dekker - first time for everything and all that!!! In general people only want to see a winning team. There will be always be the die-hards who support no matter what, but the 'floating' fan will only come if the local team is doing well. I'm sure someone will say that it should be aimed at the 'die-hards' not the fair weather supporter but the truth is that promoters NEED the extra support, and MONEY, that the floating supporter brings. By saying 'I'm alright jack - tough for you' and keeping all the good riders between two or three tracks, you're condeming other tracks to decline and eventual demise. I get sick and tired of seeing the same teams now - how bad would it be with only four or five?!!! The thing I like about speedway is that you DON'T get one club running away with everything year after year. Whilst I hate losing riders each close season, it makes it interesting to see the different tactics people use for team buliding (ie top heavy vs solid etc). As I've said before, it also means that' hiowever bad a season you have one year, you know you'll be back on an even footing with the other teams come March. YOU may see that as a bad thing but personally I think it's one of Speedway's strengths!!!
-
Stop whinging for gods sake - you've just signed one of the best British prospects, so why not forget about the idea of keeping all your assets and letting others struggle, and look around you!!! The sort of team Coventry could put out next year, even without Hamill/Jonsson/Richardson (delete two of three!) will be exciting, young and capable of winning you something at last. And more importantly for the SPORT, rather than your very small part of it, all teams have the ability to compete on an even palying field!!!
-
If that means the Promoters accepting that they've got it wrong and changing things, then that has got to be a good thing - let's hope they are big enough to admit they've made mistakes and rectify them. I'm all for them changing their mind but not if it means that the 'new' teams can't get any decnet riders whilst 'other' teams - I'm not ALLOWED to mention who - are sooooooo desparate to win something, they get their own way and keep their heat leaders!!! If it can be gauranteed that Arena and Swindon (and Ipswich..... AND Oxford) can get two 8+ point riders to compete wih those who've already GOT this, then I say fine - however if it's only being done because certain promoters (who I CAN'T name ) want to gain an advantage NO MATTER WHAT, then I have severe reservations to say the least!!! I have NO problems with then changing the damn stupid GD rule - or even looking again at how the grading will work but whatever they decide should be in the best interests of the sport, not just the select few who kick up the biggest stink!!!! Gemini and Heathen - The problem is that Mr Pratt has been one of the worst examples of 'shrewd management'/'rule manipulation'/'bending of the rules'/'cheating' (delete as necessary dependant upon the tint of you glasses) over the last 20 or so years. Is it any wonder that I suspect him whenever anything of this ilk arises?!!!
-
Uh-oh!!! Look Out!!! I can see Colin Pratt's toys flying out of the pram from here!!! What's the betting we're in for a repeat of 1995!!! You heard it here first!!!!!!
-
People in any sport will attempt to manipulate the rules as much as possible. They therefore have to be written in a watertight manner to prevent this. But then we're back to square one...Making the rules completely watertight appears to be impossible - God knows they've been trying for long enough! So every year SOMEONE finds a loophole, so it's removed for the next season and someone finds a way around the NEW rule.....and on, and on, and on!!! I still say lack of honesty and integrity is the main cause of 90% of the problems. It may be human nature to 'manipulate' as you put it, but that still doesn't make it RIGHT!!!
-
Very well put jgl07!!! Trouble is you've got two types of people involved...those who try to introduce things becasue it would help the SPORT and those who only try to help THEMSELVES!!! I wish that if they find a rule or system that WORKS they'd stick to it, instead of constantly changing. Personally I think the rolling avergages helped a lot in preventing 'manipulators' like The Master - Colin Pratt - from waiting six matches, then changing his team round, thanks to lots of 'machine problems'. However, because Ipswich couldn't put together the team they WANTED, and the Wicked Witch of the East stomped her foot a few times, this has now been scrapped again. A lot of the rule changes have to be brought in because, basically, a lot of 'cheating' goes on. Perhaps if the promoters were more honest individuals we wouldn't NEED to keep changing the rules every year!!!
-
My comment wasn't particulaly aimed at those with good arguements against the new rule but there have been an awful lot of 'this is crap' comments with no substance. I was also annoyed at RacerX's holier than thou attitude...his comments were completely unwarrented and stepped over the mark!!! You and others may well be right about the new rule Sloop...(I just get annoyed when people jump on a bandwagon just so they can have a moan or slag someone off)... As rabbit said, I'll be one of the first to say it if you're proved right but until now the EL fans haven't experienced the new rule so are probably more willing to try it out next season. I DO however, think Nigel Pearson's 'positive' slant is laughable - who the hell does he think he's kidding?!!! Mind you, this is the guy who writes a whole match report for the local paper by just using the scorers from the BSPA site because he's been doing the commentary on SKY from another match 200 miles away!!! You couldn't make it up........
-
I've let the dust settle before offering my opinion so here goes.... I really think RacerX is a bit out of order with some of the things he has said to rabbit and others. I can't see anything in Rabbit and Lanzilla's post's that say they're in favour of the new rule - just that they'll wait until they've experienced it before passing judgement. I have to say, I agree with this - it's nothing to do with EL fans being superior or whatever - just that some people refuse to be 'sheep' and slag off something they have no experience of. I call it the 'Sun Reader Syndrome' - ie "I have to moan about something because the 'majority' tell me to!!!" RacerX - I think you should get the doc to check that chip on your shoulder - you really will be getting a stiff neck with the size of it!!!! I understand that PL fans HAVE experienced the rule and, in general, didn't really like it but they need to be having a go at their promoters in that case, not other fans. After all, it wasn't the 'EL fans' who were in Tenerife voting on these rules!!!!
-
Nope - just stating OPINION that's all!!! What is your REAL problem? Did Perrin come round to your house with the begging bowl to pay for Lynch's ticket or what?!!! I really don't give a flying fig if they go to outer mongolia providing they get some of the problems sorted. Sadly, this is unlikely to happen as 'self-interest' is the name of the game it seems! But THIS would be a problem wherever the meeting takes place and, as Speedy-star pointed out, it would probably be cheaper to go to Tenerife in November than hire conference facilities in this country! Also the last time they held it here, many 'dodgy' changes got through because certain promoters decided to go home for some of the time, meaning that when some things went to a vote, only half the promoters were actually present to vote!!! Whilst on the subject of voting - the amount of times some promoters 'abstain' rather than stick their neck out is ridiculous!!! CVS has said that there is one promoter last year (or possibly the year before, I can't remember) who actually admitted to abstaining for EVERY vote!!! This is a damn insult as far as I'm concerned...everyone has an opinion on something - even YOU, Rick - fence sitters deserve to get splinters up their backside!!!
-
Bunyan?......Up and Coming????........PERLEEEEASE!!!!!!! Sorry but that is just the funniest thing I've heard for ages. The day Bunyan EVER gets further than a poor EL second string, I'll win a posh spice lookalike competition!!!!! Seriously, I do think the change to heaat 8 is a good one. As has been said, often the only points the reserve lads get is by taking them off the other reserves - and by heat 8, as it currently is, they're up against heat leaders. VERY confidence sapping I would imagine.
-
Seen the light? turned to the the Dark Side more like, does he realise he has to have a frontal lobotomy to fit in at Crufts? He's from BIRMINGHAM - nuff said !!!!
-
Oi - leave the guy alone...if he's seen the light and wants to support Wolves, then there's no problem!!! With regards to CVS and the CL team - the trouble is that it hasn't been a great success mainly because I think two matches on consecutive days is too much for many people. It's only the die-hards that stuck with it. There's also the issue - done to death elsewhere, I admit! - that Wolves fans are used to seeing EL speedway and CL just doesn't appeal to the majority. I attended almost all the CL meetings but for some people it was just too much effort and money to attend two days running. CVS HAS said he's looking to run a CL team elsewhere but whether this is 'locally' has never really been made clear. I know he has had some dealings with the bid to bring speedway back to Middlesborough, so whether THIS is where he has in mind..... I'd like to see the Dum....oops sorry, BRUMmies back. Without the 'Spoons' we have to go all the way to Brandon to give the local rivals some stick - I'd rather only have to go as far as Perry Barr!!!!!! 8)
-
But what about FANS? Surely they're the ones who matter the most?! :?:
-
The best Kelly Moran (and Shawn) story I ever heard was where they 'befriended' Roman Matousek, buying him drinks, loaning him bits for his bikes etc which meant that Roman avoided giving them the same 'treatment' that he often dished out to other riders. This story always made me laugh - mainly because it was so typical of the Morans and their personalities!!! What a great pair of guys they were - and I'm sure still ARE!!! Shame they're not still involved in some way!
-
OH MY GOD!!! I agree with something you say gorgon...better go for a lie down, quick!!! Bloody Hell, this forum is getting soft We can't possibly agree lupus, its just not done, , you'll be telling me next you think Brandon is a superior race track compared to Monmore :-o Don't push it gorgon...
-
with the apparent GP-itus accusations aside, surely you're saying what Wolves stand against for is what the so called Elite League is about, watching the best etc etc If I was unfortunate enough to be supporting a team in the EL I would prefer to be watching teams like Poole, Belle Vue and Eastbourne who sport the tops riders such as Nicki Pedersen, Tony Rickardsson, Crump, Adams etc - surely as a Wolves fan you will feel a little let down by your promotions choice - ie never picking a rider capable of putting in a serious challenge for World Championship honours. Honestly, I really WOULD rather have people who are more interested in their TEAM than the GP's. We won the league last year without a rider who was capable of winning a GP, let alone the World Championship. I remember loads of arguements with Cradley fans about the fact that they had numerous World Champs and thye too seemed to find it impossible to grasp that we would rather watch our TEAM win than any individual rider. When Sam won the title in 1993, the vast majority of Wolves fans were thrilled, but mainly FOR Sam...we were more interested in the league - but I'd rather not discuss THAT!!! :-( With regards to the comments about GP-itis...I'm not saying that Crump or Pedersen have thrown a 'sicky', and I really haven't seen enough of either of them this year to say how hard they try just before a GP...but I have read on this very forum, comments about 'lack of interest' from GP riders in general just before a GP and it is THIs that I based my judgement on. Crump - to be honest I think he's more mature than he used to be - except when the TV camera's on him for some reason!!! :? Pedersen - according to TTP, I'm not entitled to an opinion about him but needless to say, I'd find it hard to find anything positive to say except perhaps that he is 'determined' and 'fast'...
-
I'd rather have riders who want to ride for Wolves than all the World Champions, thanks!!! Wolves and team speedway comes first for me, and always will!!! You can keep your jumped up prima donnas like Pedersen, Crump , Sullivan etc...no Wolves rider has been 'ill' or 'injured' just before a GP. We may not have had a great year...a bit like Newcastle, actually!...but we've always known that our riders will turn out for us rather than save themselves for the GP's!!!
-
This IS the guy who rode for KL last year right?...and got kicked out by Oxford halfway through this seson, yes?.... :? :?: Hmmm, he's so HUGE in fact that we won the EL without him and his tantrums, thanks!!!
-
OH MY GOD!!! I agree with something you say gorgon...better go for a lie down, quick!!! It really is a case of a rock and a hard place...If I HAVE to say one then it'd probably be the ginger whinger! As others have said, he HAS had more than his fair share of back luck during the series, so I hope it's him! That said, think of all the lovely lolly Wolves could get for Pedersen if he wins it...MUST be at least 45K, surely?! Would that be the first time a club had sold a reigning World Champion?!!! :?:

Bydgoszcz G.P. - Predictions
lupus replied to Ozyace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Me too I think the prediction prize should go to Midnight Lady this week!!! Phil didn't say who would be 4th, and ML did get the nationality of the 4th rider correct, at least!!! -
Oh GOD!!! lupus i have read several of your comments on here and you apear to be a rather small minded "fan" just because you support wolves does not automatically mean you should despise cradley -im a cov fan and i would give my right arm to see cradley back, i loved those easter derbys, beating them home and away ha ha Perhaps you should go back and read my posts again then...WHERE have I said that I would not welcome Cradley back?! I have a bit of a joke going with one or two 'Spoons' oops sorry CRADLEY fans but I don't consider that makes me small minded!!! Check out the smilies on m y post above...do you not understand their meaning?! I should stick around a bit longer before you start making judgements about people!!!
-
I couldn't possibly comment as I'm one of the people 'not allowed' an opinion where Young Mr Pedersen is concerned!!! :?
-
Was it just me, or were there others who were bored witless last night?! I don't know whether it's because I knew it wasn't live - although I didn't know the result - but with one or two notable exceptions, the racing seemed poor and there didn't appear to be much atmosphere - at least coming over on the TV?! And why the hell did we end up with the 'nightmare team' commentating? Last week we had Pearson (who I don't like much BUT he's better than Millard) and Chris Louis (who's very good) - this week we end up with Mr Cliche Millard and Kelvin 'Ummmm' Tatum!!! Well done to Ryan and to Scott but I was personally disappointed that Leigh Adams didn't win it! I'm glad to see he's leapfrogged over TRick and Pedersen - albeit by one point - but I would really love this guy to win the title!!! And as for 'dummy-spitter' Crump again!!!  I couldn't believe it when he shoved Neil Street away on his way back into the pits. He really needs to learn to respect his elders and stop behaving like a spoilt brat!!! :x
-
Hmmmmm ...and your point is? If you're trying to say that 'winding people up' is a bad thing, Dekker, I should hang up your computer mouse now - it is, after all, what you spend most of your time doing!!!!!!!!
