Danish Grand Prix - Copenhagen
lupus replied to Subedei's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm really hoping for a Nicki Pedersen win! But only becasue I've got him in the Wolfcry sweepstake and I need the points!!!!!!! -
Actually Shaky - YOU are only half right! Clkive Fisher did used to do the commentary but Rob McCaffrey did it too - as well as presenting the programmes! And there really is no need to be obnoxious!!!!!

I was just going to say that Crump99! If you were sat where WE were (in front of the TV in our living room) it was obvious the Greg had no option but to move Crump out - Pedersen was pushing him wide too! If this had happened half way round the first bend, it would have been all 4 back - NO problem! I've long been an advocate of them 'extending' the all 4 back unitl the riders get their wheels straight going down the back straight. At the end of the day the what happens in the second bend is as a direct result of all 4 riders being together as it's the first TURN of the first lap. This was definatly an all 4 decsion IMHO! And I have NO liking for any of the three riders involved. In fact in a list of my five least favourite riders, these three would be in there!!!!! Edited to add: Just watched the replay and it was Nicholls not Pedersen - it must have been the sort of thing I expected from Pedersen so I'd got him in my mind! The fact still remains that he DID take Hancock out wide and Hancock then went into Crump!

Freddie Lindgren has GOT to get one! He should have had the Swedish one - since when has Rune Holta been Swedish!!!!!

Stop Slagging Nicki (kelvin Tatum)
lupus replied to EdwardKennettRacing's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
As I've said before, one day he'll pick on the WRONG one and get his comuppance! -
To Garf and the others who said that Nicki went to apologise to Bjarne afterwards can I just ask....Does this make what Nicki did okay then? If someone ran into your car either deliberatly or at the very least becasue they were driving dangerously, would YOU accept a simple apology? Be honest now! No-one has commented either that Nicki (with sly grin on his face) still tried to place some of the blame on Bjarne. He said something like "I saw a gap and had to go for it and Bjarne dropped down on top of me!" Where and when was that then? That wasn't what I saw - especially from that one angle. Bjarne must have wondered what the hell had hit him. THIS is spot on Rabbit - it's all very well saying it's entertaining to watch Nicki race but personally I'd rather NOT see someone get badly hurt or worse!!!!!!

Nice to see Nicki laughing and joking in the pits whilst Bjarne was still lying on the track....I repeat my earlier comment with NO apologies to anyone! -

Perhaps I am not making it clear enough to you. Norris was top od the averages, BUT he had a lowere grade than Pedersen. Only Pedersen could warrant a grade A guest, whether or not he was 1st or 7th in the averages, as grades stick for the season! Eastbourne season came to an end, because the calibre of guest available was not riding to Norris's scores this season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As we seem to be upsetting the natives - let's take this one over to EL forum!!!!!!! -

Try reading Shawn's post again Steve - Eastbourne USED guests for Norris - they were just lower graded ones due to Norris' grade at the start of the season!!! Better get on the phone to your mate Matt - hopefully HE knows the rules even if you don't!!!!!!! -

Steve - sorry but YOU are the one who's wrong! Explain to me then how Eastbourne had a guest for Norris when Nicki is their top rider?!!!! Besdies which, I can't see Crump interupting his celebrations to ride on Monday, can you? He'll probably still be drunk as a skunk by then!!!!!! As you say, it may be acedemic anyway as Sullivan may be fit to ride - but those fingers are going to hurt like hell in the morning!!!!!!!!! -

Actually Sullivan is third in the Poole averages, but our Grade A, so we can have anyone to guest for him. Crump, Adams, Jonsson etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh dear dear Steve - another rule you haven't learnt yet!!!!! You can only have a guest for your top AVERAGED rider at the time of the meeting!!!!!! What grade he was at the start is irrelevant!!!!!!! He may still be top of your averages as it was VERY close at the cut off point but if not .....................................oh dear dear dear!!!!!!!!!! -

Nice to see you're so concerned about your rider there Steve!!! Besides you can only have a guest for your top averaged rider and it's damn close between Sullivan and Pedersen - has anyone got the official greensheets handy?!!!!! Well done to Jason - never my favourite rider but credit where it's due!!!!! Thought it was a bit of an anti-climax way to win it - and his 'fall' was very 'crump'!!!!!!!! -
well done AJ+ tomaz wot a meeting

1 Crump 2 Rickardsson 3 Adams 4 Stead (well I can hope can't I?!!!! ) -

Couple of things Iris123..........As Grachan said, it was the 82-85 type era I was thinking of and at that time the team WAS Phil Crump!!!! The best 'other' rider we had during that time was Bo Petersen - another hero of mine (me and my mate ran his fan club for a while)! The others you mentioned didn't pull up too many trees during the epriod in question - even Nilsen as he was only 'up and coming' at that time! IMHO both Niemi and Thomsen were past their sell by date when they rode for the Robins! Martin Yeates definatly flattered to decieve - apart from one good season, when he did well in the WC rounds - he was the 'Stonehewer/Wilson' of his day. A great top rider in the old NL but defiantly an 'also-ran' in the BL!!!!! Finally - you said 'he' when talking about my previous post.........................I'll leave to work out why I bring that up!!!!!!!!!
-
I remember it well Grachan - I WAS on that greyhound track!!!!!!!!!
-
Oh yes, Mr Crump senior...................My (late) Mum's favourite rider!!! We had a photo of him on our windowsill and my Dad said it'd frighten any burglars so he didn't mind!!!!!! I was 'lucky' enough to nanny for a family that lived in the same cul-de-sac as the Crumps in about 83/84! Jason spent his whole life riding round and round in circles in the middle of the road - no doubt what HE was going to be!!!!! The people I worked for (a maitre'd of a posh restaurant and a solicitor!) didn't like their daughter playing with the Crump kids - they weren't 'their' sort of people! But I thought it was great and got quite friendly with Carole (Phil's wife) from going to the school to collect the kids! The neighbours complained about the noise coming from Phil's garage the once - so he decided to work on his bike's with the doors shut - it was only when Jason (who was with him) started to throw up that he realised it wasn't such a good idea!!! Carole had been out shopping and when she found out what had happened she gave him hell - you could hear it clean across the street!!! He didn't do THAT again! As for his riding - it was said that if the World final was over 16 laps round Exeter he'd have won it every year!!!! THAT was Crumpie (the original!!!) He was one of the masters of the 'switch back' - along with Peter Collins - and his opponents often didn't know which way he was coming round them - and he almost always DID come round them!!! In 'my' Robins' days - Phil Crump WAS Swindon Speedway! The sort of team we put out would have fitted in well with the EL of today - almost always Crumpie and then six 'also-rans' - it's a wonder we EVER won a meeting!!! When we did, Crump almost always got a max or close to it!!!!! A GREAT man!!!!!

Congratulations Sam....
lupus replied to Presenter's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I can only agree that Sam got the rider intros all wrong - but shouldn't someone have briefed him about this before hand?! I notice that he did it RIGHT on the rostrum announcements.........................blah, blah, blah Greg Hancock etc, so perhaps someone told him before then! Obviously I'm biased where Sam is conceerned, but I think he did a pretty good job! He did a good job of getting the crowd behind the riders - especially the Brits - and I liked the way he gave an 'after the race' view of what had occured whilst the rerun was showed on the big screens! I had to laugh at how he described the Brits as 'YOUR Mark Loram, YOUR Lee Richardson etc'!!!!!!! -
I'm firmly in the Club First camp!!!! I will be seen wandering round Cardiff with a large Swedish flag! Like Pete, I also offer my support to ex-Wolves (with one notable exception, of course) and riders I like - Gollob and TRick in particular. I also cheer for the Brits - but only the ones I like - Loram and Nicholls. I wouldn't be seen DEAD cheering for Richardson! I don't subscribe to the 'he's british, so I cheer for him' school of thought! If I don't like a rider, I don't like him - where he was born has NO relevance!!!!!!
-
I don't think that's strictly treu about the 'cheap mid week schedule filling during the football off season' - After all the football season runs from August to May and the speedway is on March to September. If that was ALL they were interested in, they would only show matches during the 'gap'! Although SKY don't disclose viewing figures, CVS said at the Wolves Talk-in last season that he'd been told the Speedway was second only to football for viewing - and not just during the summer but when adding the whole years figures together. As someone said on another thread (sorry I can't remember who) - if you went back to ten years ago and told people what we've got now, they'd be over the moon!!! Live speedway on TV every week, plus GP's, a ten team EL, strong 15 team PL and a thriving CL..........
