  1. How does Phil Morris change the rulebook? The rulebook 'belongs' to the ACU/SCB, except for the sections on league racing rules, for which responsibility has been delegated to the BSPL. But Phil has been appointed by Premiership promoters ( whose only influence over the rulebook is as BSPL members), so how can he change rules that effect the Championship clubs without them having a say? And if the solution is to allow changes that just effect the Premiership but not the Championship that further complicates the rulebook.
  2. His first major decision should be to retrospectively remove all tactical joker points from the 2006 play- off final scores.
  3. Car park fills up about 75-90 mins before start. You can park in Beaumont Leys shopping centre, however there is a STRICT 4 hour time limit
  4. An encouraging move. However it will be a challenging role for Phil given how many problems the sport has. So what do the Championship promoters do now?
  5. Drop into Leicester on the way up on Saturday, and then Monday's return via Belle Vue (at noon) and Wolves or Peterborough in the evening.
  6. Verbal contracts are legally enforceable (unless they relate to land/buildings)
  7. The Brighton Budgie Smugglers (bagsy be team manager )
  8. The key failing was not to put a restriction on heatleader strength that would prevent teams having a powerful top three and as a consequence three low averaged riders, leaving little room for the mid-range riders.
  9. Wasn't it one of those one season wonders that was quietly dropped after proving to be unpopular with everyone
  10. And without press coverage who apart from dyed in the wool fans will attend?
  11. Here's an idea: Instead of assessed averages being an absolute (and arbitrary) figure replace them with notional appearances with notional points and rides. Example Let's say that our rolling averages are over 8 matches (but the principle is the same whatever number you use) Assessed average of 4.5 equates to 32 rides and 36 points. Say our rider scores 12 from 5 on his debut. We remove 4 rides and 4.5 points from his rolling totals and add the 5 rides and 12 points New average is 5.27 Consider how this might give averages more reflective of their abilities for Adam Roynon, Joe Alcock, George Congreve, Luke Killeen, Ashton Boughen, Luke Harrison.
  12. So hope yet for a Shawn McConnell signing For more on the youthful face of Costa Mesa speedway: https://www.speedwaybikes.com/res2022_w/CostaMesa-20221008.htm
  13. Leonard senior was a regular at California 1948-50. I don't think he ever rode league speedway.
  14. I have a few left, if you (or anyone else) is interested message me
  15. From my book: Sheffield kick-started their title charge with an unexpected win [at Tilehurst]. The Tigers possessed enormous strength in depth, even their reserves were averaging nearly 7 points a match. The visitors' reserves (Doug Wyer and Bengt Larsson) totalled paid 19 points between them at Tilehurst. The Sheffield fixture is also remembered for the night's off track events. Since the start of the season announcer David Hamilton had brought a stream of famous faces to Tilehurst as his guest. Many of them would no longer be recognised but that night's guest remains famous, albeit for entirely the wrong reasons. With two number one and two number two hit singles in 1973 Gary Glitter had star written all over him. His presence encouraged many teenage girls with no interest in the racing to attend the meeting and drew a backlash from hardcore supporters who regarded Glitter as a distraction. Their behaviour towards Glitter attracted stern words in the following week's programme! The Evening Post gave the visit front page coverage: “Fever as Glitter hits Reading”, ran the front page headline. Page 4 carried further pictures of the Glitter visit next to a story giving the latest developments in the Watergate scandal. 'Tears & Glory'
