And I pointed out that Grass Track still has Winner takes all Finals
-
British Masters and National Championships all have winner takes all Finals. Not silly at all.

Riders are no longer considered assets of clubs
Rich replied to bigdave's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Riders have always been self-employed, that's how they are/have been so easily dropped from teams. -
I don't think so. I've not seen one in the 250 class on the Grass. Made a 350 quite a few years ago.

The new Godden engine has been around for a few years now. Charley Powell has been using one on Grasstrack, he's had a few good results in Europe

Tony was riding Grasstrack up until a couple of years ago. Injury put an end to his Speedway career, later went on to do a bit of MotoX and in the 2000s had a good few years at Pre-75 GT. Also part of Bristol GRC organising meetings.

Wolves Speedway potential new stadium???
Rich replied to Pauldoveyspeedway's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Bristol and Newport didn't share. The Newport promotion moved the British League team and licence to Bristol in 1977 and ran the Newport Dragons at Somerton Park in the National League. Bristol kept the Friday race night with Newport running on Wednesday. Crowds were already declining at Newport, the change of race night and lower league didn't help, although the few times I went I thought the racing was entertaining. -
Would you stop Celina riding for Workington?

From Swindon Motorsports website The founder directors have invested capital to launch the company, employ the professional team, bring together the operating partners, locate a site, design the facility, and make a planning application. The Board is keen to work alongside partners with a skill base and expertise in the management and promotion of multi-use leisure facilities. In addition, shares will be made available for purchase by individuals in due course. Further information on this will follow soon. We are in discussion with various operating partners and will bring these forwards in the weeks/months to come. Our list of partners is not exclusive, and we are open to approaches from operators of motor sport and motor-oriented self-drive/ride facilities. CONTACT US As a potential operator of motor sport I used the "contact us" button in November 2023, shortly after the news that a site had been identified. As yet I have had no reply.

Had a DT500 on the Grass with a 38mm Mikuni, bought from Stefan Salomonnson (Wimbledon). Fastest engine I ever had, much better than I was. Nowhere near the same with a smaller carb.

Buying SGP tickets (Cardiff 2023)...
Rich replied to Ace no.5's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
That's what we do Last year there were supposedly no tickets available on the day, I think that and the train strike contributed to the low crowd. Still got our tickets on the day. -

Does anyone know if tickets will be available on the day? -
The early Bell full face helmets as used in the States were as you say designed for car racing, with limited side vision and no way of fitting a peak. They also were too far down the head especially at the back and had the potential to cause neck or spinal damage in the event of whiplash. I used an Owen full face helmet in 1971 which addressed these issues.

As far as I know, the end products are all the same, just each production method has a different environmental impact.

The terms "brown methanol", made from coal, "grey methanol", made from natural gas, "blue methanol", made from hydrogen and "green methanol" made from biomass or other "green" resources, refer to different methods of production, not the actual colour of the fuel. So there is such a thing as "blue methanol".

Thanks for your reply, makes more sense now. Interested to see the 3 track reserves were Jack Mountford, Billy Hole and Mike Beddoe, I got to know them all later, mainly Mike as my dad was one of his mechanics and they kept in touch after he retired. Mike was a big help to me when I started Grasstrack in the 70s.

I've been given a Programme of this Meeting dated October 25th 1946. Does anyone know why it was held at Bristol?

Is Sidecar will be back in Speedway in 2023??

The proposed site is now a solar and wind farm. In my opinion it was never going to happen, as usual Bristol City Council offered support but wouldn't do anything to allow it to happen. I've seen a couple of proposed motorcycle related projects go the same way.

Ledbury Spooktacular
Rich replied to Pieman72's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
In the 50 years I've been involved with Grasstrack there have been many meetings in October affected by or cancelled due to rain, but the same is true of every other month. Frittenden in July and the British Championships at Ledbury in August were both abandoned. I blame Brexit -

Rich replied to Pieman72's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
There's been a couple at Owlselbury, near Winchester this year and already one planned there in April. Kent has quite a few tracks, GTSA run near Frittenden and have applied for next years Masters, probably run a couple of more meetings as well. Astra have announced they'll run the Champion of Champions at Swingfield in September. Frittenden Club, in my opinion one of the best clubs with one of the best tracks in the country, usually run the Battle of Britain in May, Summer Pairs in July and the Frittenden Flyer in September. Club level meetings but because the track's so good always get a fantastic entry. All these meeting should be worth watching. -

It is the same John Elliott, and still very competitive.
