  1. That made me laugh as well. It's like when they quote the average wage, I always think, I wish!! I've worked a long time, and still have years to go, and at the end of it will have a work pension and state pension of some description (was contracted out for part) but both together fall well short of 20k. Certainly not as much as when working so I'll be happy for my concession without having to be means tested at the turnstile to get it.
  2. I tend to wind people up but not on a wind up no. I've said before that if Rathbone did receive a phone call from Poland and told them that we can't speak to you then that's where it should have stopped. The fact is that he asked for and was allegedly advised that the benefit of doing something "dodgy" outweighed the slap on the wrist that he might get so it was worth the risk. The action does still make Rathbone the main culprit (and he was punished for it) but what would you have done? You have bills to pay and a high ranking official advises that you'll make more than you'll lose from the deal whilst getting minor grief from the powers that be for transgressing the rules.
  3. The SCB didn't say that it was an opinion: "The panel also recommended no further action taken against Mr Rathbone, but the advice given by Mr Godfrey was both ill chosen and in Breach of Speedway Regulation 3.2.7." Rathbone asked for advice from a senior BSPA official regarding speedway's rules, so to plead ignorance when the brown stuff hits the fan because technically they are not our rules really is clutching at straws.
  4. Can you smell that? What is that? Sheep is it? It's cows? No, no, I know what it is. It's bull****!
  5. He allegedly didn't say not to do it though, in fact far from it it would seem. You'd expect someone in authority to make it quite clear that there is no grey area here. The rules say that you can't do it and that's my advice. If you do anything else then you get everything that you deserve. That is in the best interests of British Speedway, not the wishy washy conversation Godfrey and Rathbone apparently had.
  6. Were they? Would Holder and Rathbone (well Rathbone anyway) have taken that course of action if Godfrey hadn't given the green light.
  7. Website has a link saying get your season ticket now, and if you follow that there is no indication of any deadline so seems like communication problems? The same applies if you follow the news item - if my mate goes for one then he usually doesn't bother until last minute so that'll be an interesting conversation if he gets the same message as you.
  8. What was the rush. Can't see any time limit mentioned and if you were iffy then you'd surely hang fire given those signed. The only reason to purchase early if you're going anyway, especially if a couple (one ST), is to get free car parking and programme.
  9. what is a pub ichair? Have Apple moved into the corporate furniture business?
  10. That's what I said. Put the lights out when you go and take your can of Tizer with you (Brown ale will be too expensive and off the menu for where we are going).
  11. You mean should have been the mantra and plan for many years instead of the policy of continued watering down and the race to the bottom. 2018 should be treated as the time change direction. Just a shame that Panthers are still in the northern lower Sunday league, Ippo and now unhelpfully, Lakeside apart!
  12. More chance of me winning Euromillions, and that's a 6 man team at the EoES unless Bacon bulks himself up and/or suddenly gets more aggressive on the bike.
  13. Doesn't matter how many times you say it, if they wan't to do it they will. If the season had started then it's a much bigger issue but half way through the close season gives everyone the chance to work within the new rules. No it isn't very clever to have to correct an avoidable cock up but surely it's more of a case that it can't be right not to do something.
  14. Teambuilding would start afresh. Those teams who already have a line up can choose whether or not they wish to change. It's potentially a cock up with no right answer and winners and losers but who is surprised.
  15. They can do anything that they want and they wouldn't let looking incompetent get in the way. Usually no smoke without fire. (answers other post as well) As long as everyone else has time to work with the new rules before a wheel is turned then it can be seen as fair even if a bit of a cock up, but what's new!
  16. “All promoters left the meeting with great enthusiasm towards the 2018 season.” Same time next year lads! At least we're not guilty because we had no representation.
  17. That's what I said umpteen posts ago. As usual with anything speedway it's the why that's unlear without having to rely on reading between the lines of what someone thinks that the reason is?
  18. Bloody hell, that's a good memory and nice bit of nostalgia
  19. Indeed, but as I said, what's not been made clear is whether the BSPA said that you're not hosting them or whether Rathbone has told them to whistle following August's events and the lack of appreciation forthcoming from the lords and masters following a successful staging in 2017. It could have just been due to availabilty of dates at the EoES as you'd know, but did the BSPA ask if could we stage them, suggest that we needn't worry about at date after last year's events, or when asked Rathbone told them to get stuffed in more polite terms than that I'd imagine, or perhaps not if Godfrey or Chapman was on the other end of the phone!
  20. So we can expect all lower league SGB major events to be held there in 2018.
  21. Put their money in to keep things running I guess which is why they don't want transparency and unambiguous communications.
  22. Thought that I just read somewhere that Peterborough wouldn't host them. Whether that be by choice or as a consequence I don't think was made clear?
  23. Who had the last laugh there? Coventry gone. Both clubs having to suffer the supremo. Panthers nearly gone a couple of times at least since and now mid table lower tier struggling to put a team together? Hopefully plan A or B come off and are a surprise.
  24. Trustworthyness is not the main issue, it's transparency and communication that's the problem although I suppose that it's one and the same thing really. They need to draw a line now and say that the past is the past and that there are no precedents for decisions going forward. Then they have to clearly explain how future decisions are reached so that everone is clear. There are no favours or special dispensation. If the lunatics want to run the asylum, and they cleary do, then they've got to start being competent. Tough ask I know but while we still have some sport left it'd be a good idea!
