  1. As I've said many times before, as you quite rightly say the older generation don't like to buy things on line......plus.........a lot of the older generation don't have computers, mobile phones etc;, I just wish that businesses would realise and accept that.
  2. It's going to be an awkward situation for club and supporters I'd have thought to know what's happening, as I believe it's that same day that BoJo confirms what and what can't happen, isn't it? If for any reason, he alters his proposed plans late that afternoon, many people won't know, as they will have been at work.
  3. I'm like you, coughing a lot because my asthma was bad yesterday & today, caused by non-stop sinus drip due to polyps (32 of them I'm told) at the top of my nostrils. I feel like I've got a heavy cold, but haven't, and I'm having my second jab tomorrow, so hope I don't feel any worse after it than I already do.
  4. Same at Mildenhall in 2019, no soap most of the time, and hand dryer not working.

  6. They wrote the wrong surname on mine at the NHS clinic, then crossed it out and put the correct one. I wonder if I would be refused entry, as they may think it might be a stolen one that's been changed illegally into my name.

  8. Chris Golding used to drive him to Isle of Wight and King's Lynn too.
  9. Yes he did live in Kent, as did the people giving him a lift to Isle of Wight & King's Lynn, but those people were also working in the box too.
  10. Bryn seldom used public transport, 99.9% of the time it was lifts from friends.
  11. As far as speedway and my long journey to hospital, public transport wouldn't be an option, as the nearest bus stop is miles from the stadium, and even if fit enough, I don't think many elderly people would feel safe walking that far in the dark in this day and age.
  12. So it appears by reading all your interesting comments, of which many feel its right for them to stop driving in the dark, just confirms what I thought when I opened this topic, it would have an adverse affect on our sport, as you'd presumably be no longer able to attend, unless you're lucky enough to have someone that could offer you transport. I'm one of the lucky ones if you like, where I find night time driving less distracting than in daylight, when you might be blinded by the sun, or looking at various things as you drive past them, and as I have an annual eye test, which should be mandatory as a couple of you have said, plus annual diabetic eye screening, I consider myself to be safe on the road at night. Living in the country as I do, I'm extra wary due to the deer that appear from nowhere at night, so I'm also ultra vigilant, and ready for any emergency braking. I also have to make a lot of 4-hour round trips to hospital in the dark, so that my sick wife can undergo treatment she can't manage without. But my reasons for starting this topic in the first case, weren't so that people could start saying "I stopped driving because.......", it was purely to express my worry as to how clubs would survive if those of a certain age could no longer attend due to their age, because it is the aged group to a large extent, that attend, or do voluntary work at stadiums.
  13. I have diabetes, controlled by diet of which the DVLA know about, and they've given me the okay to drive, and luckily, I don't suffer night blindness.
  14. I certainly hope so, as I'm 77-years old now, have an annual eye test (all is good), and I'm safer and more alert on the roads than I was when in my twenties. Gone are the days of driving at 70mph in 50mph areas, and I stick in most part to the speed limits. My reactions are as good as they've ever been, and I'd happily take a test against any driver of any age on that score..
  15. So there's a suggestion this morning on the news, that elderly people should be banned from driving in the dark. If that rule comes into place, it will close the sport of speedway down in this country, as the greater percentage of supporters fall into that bracket, along with most of the voluntary workers, and in quite a few cases promoters and team managers. It would also close a great many theatres, cinemas etc; outside the boundaries of cities, and greatly affect attendances at other sporting venues, such as football, especially non-league, where they couldn't take that sort of hit. Very worrying time for everybody over whatever age they decided to call elderly (I think somebody mentioned 70).

  17. I personally think this is quite a nice looking team, despite the ages of some. If decency does prevail over the BB parking, then my wife and I will be in attendance whenever her health allows, but if decency doesn't prevail, then with great sorrow, we'll never visit the venue again. It's a sad situation for her, but one we can do nothing about, so her only speedway in 2021 will be Mildenhall.
  18. There seem to be a lot of unanswered dealings by the BSPL, and it's hard to do anything other than agree with your statement and feelings. It was so important to keep speedway alive on the Isle of Wight, as there are very few attractions for locals or holiday makers to do of an evening. In 2019 when I visited the island and stayed in Shanklin, there was absolutely no entertainment other than to go to the local theatre in the evening, and they don't provide for the holidaymaker like they have in years gone by. Consequently, people were attempted to go along and see what this thing called speedway was all about, might just have decided to start going to their local tracks when their holidays were over, and returned to the mainland. You guys have put so much work into that place, and I feel so sorry for you.
  19. A lot have lost their jobs too, which will make their minds up for them, in addition to the reasons you've given.
  20. He said in the Speedway Star (w/e 27 February 2021) that he plans to fly back to England early April, and will make a decision then, dependant on how the planned season pans out.
  21. Plus Iwade, and Lydd is a lovely little track.
  22. The IOW are the most forward looking club at any level, that I can remember seeing for many a long year. We're not privy to whatever the issues were to cause Messrs Bishop & Widman to withdraw from the BSPL, but whatever they were, the Board of Directors should have worked their socks off to ensure the club could continue to provide much needed entertainment for those that live on the Island, along with the holidaymakers. The sport just can't afford to keep losing clubs like this, and I just hope that sense prevails, and they can be welcomed back in 2022, because speedway is dying on its feet, at a fast rate of knots. Gutted for all you people across the Solent, along with all your sponsors.
