  1. Ditto those sentiments. It's great to see some of these British riders being given their deserved chance in the Premier League. Paul Starke appeared to do a good job when called upon last season, and got himself in the shop window for everyone to judge. Sad for him that nobody has taken him up this year, but now it's time for another outstanding talent to be afforded the same chance that Paul was given in 2012. Although there aren't many guarantees in life, there's most definetly one, and that is that Lewis Kerr will give 100% effort in every ride he undertakes. He set his stall out in that way for King's Lynn 'Young Stars' last year, and its paid dividends for him, I wish the Heacham based rider all the luck in the world.
  2. Jeez, to pick an all-time greatest Wimbledon side is almost impossible. I started supporting the Dons in 1958, so can only judge from then, but accept that there were many great riders prior to that, who would warrant a place. My 1-7 in order (I THINK!!!!!!) is. 1) Ron How 2) Ronnie Moore 3) Peter Moore 4) Barry Briggs 5) Tommy Jansson 6) Edward Jancarz 7) Gote Nordin Oh dear, Sverre Harrfeldt, Roger Johns, Trevor Hedge, Gerald Jackson, Cyril Brine, Dave Jessup, Malcolm Simmons, Bobby Ott, Brad Oxley, Rudy Muts etc., etc all warrant a place.

  4. The BSPA website has now published the dates and venues for this years Championship, with just one to be confirmed. The organisers at Iwade (Sittingbourne) did a fantastic job when they hosted the final round last September, and although speedway will be staged a few miles up the road this summer at Central Park, I'd love to see the round staged at the Old Gun Site again. Presumably the venue will be staging some Dragons Speedway Club meetings again, plus of course their invaluable training days, and nowhere deserves to host a round of this ever growing prestigious tournament more. For those who haven't seen the official announcement, it reads as thus: - Meetings are confirmed for Leicester (May 12), Rye House (May 18), Eastbourne (July 14), Scunthorpe (July 28) and Northside (August 11) with at least one other venue to be announced, and a training day has been fixed for Buxton on April 2. The Young Lions management team of Phil Morris and Neil Vatcher would be delighted to hear from any British boys or girls who would like to complete in at least one of the events of the Youth Championship, who were under the age of 16 on the 1st January 2013, and who ride either 500, 250 or 125cc speedway bikes. They can be contacted at: -email- Morris and Vatcher have also thanked the BSPA and the above tracks for their help in supporting British Youth Speedway, and the series sponsors for their continued support: Friends of Speedway, Wessex Marine, Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club and Duck Smart Cleaning Products.
  5. Does anybody have the results from the amateur meeting staged at Northside last Saturday (24/11/12) please? Thank You.
  6. To be honest, I think this an excellent line-up, and although I have reservations about Olly Allen purely because of his injury record, which of course can't be helped, it's watered my mouth enough to make the 4-hour round trip as often as finances and decent weather permit. Mellgrem IMO will be a very solid and reliable heat-leader. So will Allen if he can keep out of trouble!! Bunyan should be good for a minimum of 8-points a meeting. Garrity is getting better all the time, and providing he keeps a level head, could and should go far in the sport. Lambert & Lykke at reserve have got to be a promoters dream in the Premier League, especially at home where towards the end of the current season, they both looked so full of points. Nelson I'll give the benefit of doubt to, but am not convinced, think I would rather have investigated the possibility of Stefan Nielsen, assuming they hadn't already done so. I've always been a bit of a Rye House 'Knocker' on this forum, but I'll put my hands up and admit that some of the meetings that I saw there towards the end of the season were far more entertaining than they've been in past few years, and certainly better than anything I can remember seeing whilst travelling around to some Elite League meetings. It's a team worthy of local support, and providing admission costs are set at an affordable level (they're a tad to high at the moment), then there's no reason why many of those missing fans of recent years shouldn't return. They will surely be in the running for honours come next Autumn.
  7. Is there anybody that was at Ipswich on the 2nd August that could provide me with the heat details for the Ipswich v King's Lynn (AJL) match please? I've tried people involved at both clubs along with the league co-ordinator and referee, and nobody has come up with the answer. I find this so hard to understand when it was an official match raced for league points, and somebody from one of those sources must have the answers, but just don't want to help. So as a last resort, I'll put out a plea to either and Ipswich or King's Lynn fan that were in attendance and filled their programme in. Thanking you in anticipation!! Mike

Thanks to all the people involved in organising and running these very enjoyable events, and to the riders for competing in them. Thanks also to my friends in the box, namely Chris Golding, John Strong and Bryn Williams, who have been a great help to me for many reasons this year, along with Les Drury & Dick Jarvis. Hope you all have a safe winter, and look forward to being in your company again next March.....ish!
  9. I don't know what format it is taking this year. Last year the meeting was made up of three different team events, one each for Open, Intermediate & Novice Class. Meetings usually last between two and three hours and riders are generally a mixture of amateurs with some National League riders thrown in for good measure. The meeting starts at 4.00pm and admission is FREE, with just £1 to pay for a pukka programme. With rain once again looking threatening, one would hope that the referee and organisers will strive to get proceedings completed as quickly as possible. Don't know if you've ever been to an amateur meeting before, but as one race finishes, the riders are leaving the pits in readiness for the next race. Quite impressive really.
  10. The rain has FINALLY stopped, and there are early signs that the sun is going to peep through. In the space of 15-minutes the pavements are beginning to dry already, so hopefully the meeting will go ahead as planned.
  11. Bryn Did you receive the information that you requested and I e-mailed on to you? Mike
  12. Oh dear, it's absolutely pouring with rain here and has been for most of the night, do hope it clears before 4.00pm, but fear the damage may well have already been done. If amybody connected with running the meeting gets any news, would they please post it on here. Thank You.
  13. I'm also looking forward to this Bryn, and just hope that the 'STRONG' man will be splitting you and your chaffeur up whilst you're working. Seriously though, the Dragons end of season bash is always a hoot, and more than worth attending. Weather forecast is not that brilliant (40% chance of rain), but as long as that referee geezer keeps his finger on the buzzer, it'll hopefully reach its natural conclusion, then the chauffeur can have a meal at the Red Lodge on both in the inward and outward journey Look forward to seeing you all.
  14. Kevin & Laurence, You are both very welcome. Apart from a couple of results that I had trouble finding, you guys did a great job in posting the results with heat details on a regular basis on the BSPA website, which made my task so much easier. I know this and the Anglia Junior League is all about giving young riders the experience that they both want and need, and averages are unimportant. However, it's surprising how many riders do actually like to know those facts 'n figures. Hope you continue to promote this level of racing again in 2013. Best Wishes Mike
  15. Good job you added the because he needs to stay where he is thank you very much, and you know who I'm talking about
  16. A very enjoyable evening of racing despite the meeting being of little or no importance. Stoke gave a far better account of themselves than the score suggests, and I was particularly impressed with Liam Rumsey. Also good to see Mildenhall give their No 8 (Niall Strudwick) three rides, rather than try and nail Stoke further into the ground with some of their big hitters. Shame that Ben Morley suffered that awkward looking tumble in Heat 1 which resulted in him withdrawing from the meeting, and hope the injury is only of a minor nature. Ten out of Ten for the referee who kept his finger on the button all evening. Parade at 7.30pm, back in the car at 9.00pm......BRILLIANT STUFF. So well done Stoke for giving it your best shot, and well done Mildenhall on all your deserved success this year. An extremely belated thanks Phil, I'd already left before I'd picked up your message. Everything about Mildenhall was good tonight.
  17. Does anybody know what the weather is currently like in the Mildenhall area, because where I live in Norfolk, it's looking increasing more like rain, in fact it's pouring now. Like Super Blue, my journey entails over a 100-mile trip, and one has to wonder if it's worth the gamble of yet more wasted petrol money.
  18. Where abouts in the stadium is the office please, and is there public access to it prior to the meeting?
  19. Can the rain-off tickets from the original and aborted staging of this meeting, be presented and used at the turnstiles tonight please?
  20. Really looking forward to this, the final meeting of 2012. Pity Ashley Birks isn't riding, as it's always the preferred option to see a teams own 1-7, but I'm sure Ben Morley will prove an adequate replacement. In this day and age, children aren't frightened of the Halloween monsters etc., but Mum's & Dad's, just prepare your little monsters for the fact that both Jaybea and Old Ponytail will be in town tonight, and that's enough to scare the pants off the strongest of folk No matter who wins tonight, have a good safe meeting to all the riders, and seasonal greetings to everyone involved with both clubs, including the fans of course.
  21. A very enjoyable meeting this, which as many of you have said, some excellent performances from the Rye House riders. Berwick played a big part in the early stages keeping the match close, and well done to them too, but a total of 3-points from the two guest riders was their downfall. Like the Mildenhall v Dudley meeting at King's Lynn a few days earlier, had it still have been August or September, this meeting would have been postponed due to the weather, yet it proved what can be achieved by a little bit of work on the track combined with the full understanding and positivity of the riders......well done to you all. Pat on the back for the referee too, who had his finger on the 2-minute button as soon as the previous race had finished, which saw proceedings completed in around an hour and a half. There is simply no need to drag meetings on, because the public still find the time to use the various catering outlets, so it's not as if the promoters need the interval so they can make a few quid from that facility. Keeping my fingers crossed for a dry day in Suffolk now, so that I can take in the Mildenhall v Stoke meeting. If you're going folks, don't forget it's Halloween, and 'Old Ponytail' will be in town....nuff said!
  22. Thanks Blazeaway. The sun is out here in Norfolk........and Scunthorpe, but think I will gamble on Rye House as Len Silver ensures everybody that the meeting will definetly take place, even if it rains. Having witnessed what Mildenhall rode in against Dudley on Wednesday, would make it difficult for any club justifying a call-off for rain. Here's hoping anyway.
  23. Can anybody give a weather update please, as I don't know whether to make the journey to this meeting or go to Scunthorpe........or maybe even stoip at home. Thanks
