Belle Vue V Sheffield - Mon 26th @ noon
ouch replied to GeneralMelchett's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Firstly get well soon Brady. It’s great to see a rider not take the pee out of the sport here in the UK like so many others who will complete foreign league meetings then swerve the UK. Brady’s never done that and will always if possible turn out for the UK fans, similar to Doyle. Must be an Aussie thing. -

Dan and Brady were doing the heavy lifting - in front of him. Having a rider whether team mate or opponent in front of you, has a detrimental effect on your average. Not having big hitter team mates means you move up a position in the races you are now in. Case in point, his average has dropped since Freddie joined as he is now behind him in many races. Tom “carried” the team at 5 (not 1) for just four meetings before Freddie’s arrival. The seven meetings prior to this saw him ride in his usual second string role. The devil is indeed in the detail. -

Tom has come on “leaps and bounds” since leaving Belle Vue improving his average by an impressive 0.05. His average last year was helped by having a 1 whole month at reserve. In contrast, poor Connor had a terrible season at Belle Vue only improving his average by insignificant 0.22. -

Lots of 2 & 4’s so heat 8 & 14. He had quite a few TS thrown against him whilst with The Aces as well. -

Aces RS’s (or whatever it was at the time) S.Worrall Bewley Smith Brennan You’re right about Connor, just hope the poor lad can get himself sorted. -
Kings Lynn fans….. If Buster closes that’s me lost to the sport as it’s just not the same watching riders that aren’t your own. Kings Lynn fans….. Can’t wait ‘till Wednesday.

Including a double header as Wolves quickly crammed in their final fixtures due to the play offs looming. -

The transfer window or the Tai rule was put in place to stop promotions like Wolves bringing in riders for the play offs. The ridiculous knock on is you now cannot sign riders to cover injuries, even if all 7 are out injured. You have to take guests from the lower clubs who failed to make the play offs and these guests total devalue the sport at a time when the media are taking a greater interest. As a grim piece of icing, the folk that started all this are no longer involved in the sport. Grrrrr. -

or Belle Vue. 2 changes in the last six years that weren’t due to injury. We’d have kept many riders over the winter to if it wasn’t for the dreaded rider control/averages hitting us hard. -
https://britishspeedway.co.uk/2023-rider-statistics/ He’s irreplaceable at home.

Dan’s 2024 away average of 8.22 is bettered only by Emil (Jason’s is better but he had so few fixtures it’s hardly representative, his complete season for last year was lower), so it shows he can gate and win points. I’m surprised to see him and Brady in joint second in the away figures, with some daylight between them and the next on the list, given they are throttle jockeys who can only perform around the NSS.

and Belle Vue every year.

I only watch speedway and know little to nothing of other sports. Is there another team sport where the loss of a team member has such a massive influence over the whole teams results? I’m guessing the top guys in football, basketball, hockey etc are heavily reliant on the teammates setting them up to score whereas speedway is a very individual team sport. I did touch on this years ago when discussing the play offs but I’d be interested to know if we are a unique sport in this regards. -
Love Liverpool and at 30 odd miles away that would easily add to a long weekend in the North West.

Do a bit of googling as you’ll find that’s very much an incorrect assumption. Of all the UK cities outside our capital Manchester is the top destination for tourists. Having more than double the amount of hotel beds than Cardiff provided by many different operators, it is hoped more affordable rates would be available. Problem there though is with Manchester being so popular availability would be an issue.

The south stand was never completed and that was a bugbear for the initial promoters. When they stopped paying whilst awaiting a resolution the council with the assistance of Chapman, kicked them out. Still waiting for a completed south stand and the increased capacity it would give us.
-
I’d go to Cardiff but wouldn’t go to the event as it’s rubbish. Do a bit of shopping and visit the pub until it’s over. I’ll qualify that by saying I’m not a fan of gate’n’go whereas it’s the “thing” these days so I can understand most would enjoy it.
-
Tom Tom Jack Parker and Louis Lawson. Throttle jockeys - yawn.
-
But they have GP’s elsewhere with equally low capacity????
-
Like er Dan Bewley.
-
I’d agree with that as Dan is such a laid back character he seems too nice. We commented after Max had been hard on him in the first turn v Leicester that he really had the bit between his teeth in a way we rarely see. It’s there, just needs coaxing out.

Here come the Belgium’s.

They tossed a coin to decide KK won the (U21) world title. Wonder why the media don’t take it seriously?

Ah, you’re one of those that hate the FIM participants. One man’s heroic, courageous attempt is (unbelievably) another man’s selfish git taking the pee out of UK league speedway. Due to my love of the PC’s, Carter’s, Moran’s, Tatum’s, Loram’s of this sport - one rider in particular, I can’t debate with someone with that view point. All the best.
