  1. Mort & Gordon thought speedway couldn’t sink any lower back when kicking off the NSS. When it opened we all thought the sport in this country couldn’t sink any lower. Unbelievably it has. The man from the council promised funding at our dinner dance so the stadium could be finished. I think they like our current owners are treading water as to press on full steam ahead would be rather like renovating a cafe on Saddleworth Moor. The potential being that everything could just collapse around us. I think it will.
  2. What do people think a team of seven cost per meeting?
  3. I walked into the new estate prior to the Charity Shield meeting after having a pre match meal in the Jovial Monk. I followed the sound of the bikes but came to a dead end. Whilst on the estate near the stadium two new homeowners were stood at their front door trying to make out what the noise was. As people have said these very people will soon gang up on the robins and have them shut down and with the state of the sport currently, a few hundred fans won’t stop them.
  4. Glad to here you guys down there are finally buying into this loyalty lark. Well done. Approve.
  5. We obviously got duped by the same guy pretending to be Freddie as your official twitter admin. Oops. “Pirates saw off competition for Jakobsen from both @TheAces and @casesrebels” 29/06/18 8.23pm
  6. For as long as I’ve been going we have always had a problem bringing in new fans in any kind of significant numbers. Twenty years ago we were already down to the hardcore fan base and it has taken a lot of work to drive them away. These fans were dyed in the wool types with a sense of fairplay and moral values passed down by their parents, parents who had seen the country pull together during the war. The other thing about these fans is they didn’t like change or new ideas. Play offs, jokers and the like really turned these fans off whilst they also failed to bring in newbies. The cheating and rule bending so prevalent this century also made it difficult to get behind it as a sporting contest. The result is no new fans whilst actively pushing away the anorak, board waving diehards. Like I say it’s taken a lot of effort to prize these guys from their anoraks but unbelievable they did it. Now we’re bollocked, there is no getting away from it. We are no longer in a position where tweaks will do, we need to draw a line under it, take stock and start from scratch - with the wishes of the current fan base paramount. We no longer have anyone within the sport capable of doing this and if the current bunch don’t relinquish control then speedway as a professional sport in this country will end.
  7. He should have been 4. We tried to sign Freddie and it would have been on a 4. Once we knew Poole were in on it we knew we’d never match their terms. He’s a good lad who will do well.
  8. We could have cut down on the amount of guestfest fixtures just by adopting a more efficient fixture planning method but as usual we have taken the approach of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. If they want me to do it for them I will.
  9. When you have blocked someone, is there a way of blocking their posts when they are quoted?
  10. The point about engines and tyres though valid should be discussed on a separate topic. For us to change the whole speedway world to our mode of thinking will take a hell of a lot of work but I’m led to believe it is being looked into in the UK. I think it’s easier (not easy) to rectify the issues with the Stoke circuit which given the call off and press release seems to be being done. Fingers crossed, as I’ve seen so good speedway there.
  11. It the (racing?) surface, not the size or shape.
  12. My original comment about Flint wasn’t about where he rides but the fact he is in the Birmingham lineup. I’ll say the same once he moves up. Far better rider than Dicken as was shown last night and no doubt tomorrow.
  13. Declared in the Leicester team 02/04/18 on last years 5.57 average. He kept this average when joining Lynn 30/04/18 but then it dropped to 5.23 13/06/18 as it only used his 3 (yes 3) meetings from this year.
  14. Does anyone know why MPT’s rolling average doesn’t include his meetings from last year? If it had his average would be 5.51 thus altering his place in the line up. Also this makes his guest replacement of Summers (5.44) at Poole illegal. It really screws up other meetings as well so I’m not sure if they will alter the score, run them again or just brush it under the carpet as seems likely. I’ve emailed the BSPA about rider averages (there are a lot of anomalies) but they just ignore me. Any explanation would be appreciated.
  15. Though it didn’t fully cover for Steve, Jason’s paid 8 last nigh was an improvement on the 3 & 4 we have been getting away from home in that position. Another score closer to Steve’s ability and we will always be fairy confident of a win.
  16. Great result, awful speedway. Felt so sorry for our little entertainer.
  17. If your paying riders more in line with Championship rates, you should be in the Championship and not polluting our waters?
  18. Over the limit anyway. What would people think if the stars tracked an illegal team, wouldn’t look good on the BSPA boss? Lol.
  19. Ex Rye House rider and rides Wolves well. Really pleased to see him in an Aces race jacket again. A great but so far wasted talent. I’d like to see the new GB set up get their claws into him and for him to listen.
  20. As usual the debate gets side tracked due to emotion/hate/love/bias. Take out the names and insert rider 1 etc. You win the SON in the final heat by scoring 7-2, 6-3 or 5-4. From that you deduce if you finish last you lose. Objective, don’t finish last, all other considerations are irrelevant. If we have a rider at the back, are his chances of moving up the field improved if his partner attempts to help him, are they reduced or do they stay the same? If we are in losing position what do we have to lose by attempting to improve the situation no matter how unlikely a positive result? If 20 odd backroom GB staff couldn’t collectively work that out then we have work to do.
