Scandinavian Speedway Grand Prix
Subedei replied to Mr Bee's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Roll your eyes all you like, young fellow, but beating the likes of Simon Stead doesn't amount to much when you get down to serious business on a decent track, does it? -
Sad to see that Szczepan Bukowski, the one-time chairman of Unia Tarnow and manager of the Polish team that won the SWC in 2005 has passed away at the young age of 59. My condolences to his friends, family and everyone at Unia Tarnow.

Where, where? The former British champion was going to "mix it" with the big boys in the SWC final, but what happened? Oh yes, four thirds and a second, but he did beat Hans Andersen in Ht 25 and that's all that matters. -

And Bjarne Pedersen has won a GP, while your beloved former British champion hasn't. -
Just out of interest, why 40:0? Why not 75:0?

Wroclaw 44 : 46 Zielona Gora You were saying Mateusz?

At least he had the class to enter, unlike some.

I'm sorry but Staechmann is fast losing credibility here. He should be dignified in defeat. The reason Gollob was so poor in Prague was the track surface. Disgraceful comments from Staechmann and he should be heavily fined for them.

New England Manager?

I see is this a comparison between the Gollob at the SWC Final and the Gollob at the Czech GP, with a conclusion that Gollob's engine at the SWC Final possibly gave the great man an unfair advantage? You'd be better off looking at the track, dear fellow. The Leszno track was smooth, the Marketa track wasn't. Gone are the days when Gollob's prepared to risk life and limb on tracks he's not happy with. Cardiff rutted up awfully and was an abortion (no one cares because Harris won) and Gollob wasn't interested. The Marketa was even worse and Gollob was even less interested. Nothing to do with engines. Give the man a decent track and wallow in his genius. -
And judging by the SWC, Leszno is also Olsen-proof.

Not that the Jules Rimet trophy is handed over to the winners of the World Cup now, since it was given permanently to Brazil after their 1970 win.
-
But if you allow anyone at reserve and allow the reserve six rides, a sensible manager is going to name his best rider at reserve and pick and choose his six rides, for example, Nicki P against Kennett 2-3 times, but missing the likes of Hampel and Adams altogether.

It seems that Czestochowa have signed Australian (or is he British) sensation Tai Woffinden on a four year contract: WLOKNIARZ have a new foreign junior rider - Tai Woffinden has just signed a contract with club from Czestochowa. "We were talking with Tai for some time, but kept it secret since we did not want the competition to steal this rider," said Marian Maslanka, Wlokniarz chairman. The 17-year old has signed a contract for 4 seasons. Young Australian riders are 'on fire' in the Polish Extraleague 2007. Chris Holder is making a huge progress in the Atlas Wroclaw squad and Troy Batchelor have proved to be Unia Leszno's best signing this season. "Australia has a very good youth speedway system. They are working intensely to develop the new Adams's and Crumps," claims Marek Cieslak, Atlas Wroclaw coach. Taken from: http://www.speedwayworld.tv

He also rode for Hackney and Reading in 1981. I'd guess that the whole Solidarity thing then blew up and affected the opportunities for Poles to ride in the UK after that.
-
No. Judging from Saturday, without Brian Andersen hovering around him, Harris is nothing.
-
Which is, presumably, why Gollob made the final of the GP at Copenhagen and neither Harris or Nicholls did.
-
I'd imagine only Great Britain and Poland want it, or want it and are prepared to pay for it.
-
Tomasz Gollob has more racing skill in a cutting off his toe nail than Messrs Harris, Stead, Nicholls, Kennett, Richardson and Allen have in their combined beings.
-
Yes, but Sky's policy is to interview race winners, isn't it. And I guess maybe the British riders didn't want to be interviewed. In fact, it seemed like only the Poles were getting interviewed by young Louis between races, with Gollob, Kasprzak and Hampel featuring regularly.

That's no way to talk about the Polish team, young fellow. -
Get down off your high horse, will you? I didn't state an opinion. I asked a question. You like Boyce and you let that cloud your judgement to such an extent that your post really isn't worthy of serious consideration.
-
Wouldn't surprise me either. But I suspect the Poles and their mechanics worked overtime between Thursday and Saturday to make sure they had top notch equipment, while the British riders, perhaps, were more interested in the sights of Poznan? It's all about professionalism - the Poles came across as supremely professional, which you couldn't say about the British.
-
Maybe while the British team were sightseeing in Poznan, the Poles were burning the midnight oil working on their bikes and engines. The difference between the Poles on Thursday and the Poles on Saturday was amazing - they were on super-charged engines in the final. I doubt their mechanics had much sleep between Thursday and Saturday.

Among the riders Balinski headed home were Simon Stead and Oliver Allen. Are we really suggesting that a fully fit Grzegorz Walasek wouldn't have been able to head home those two?
