No argument now, surely, about who is Britain's No 1. Harris becomes Britain's third GP winner, after Loram and Dugard, and the first since 2007. Congratulations to Harris on his victory. I suspect the congratulations from a Coventry team mate will be slightly bitter.

After his sensational performance at Eskilstuna in the Swedish Grand Prix, Zielona Gora's Fredrik Lindgren has been named the Wild Card for the Scandanavian Grand Prix to be staged at Malilla later in the season: http://www.speedwayworld.tv/en/news/a8050 A sure sign that Lindgren's set for a permanent berth in the circus for 2008, I'd say.

The eternal law of diminishing returns is starting to kick in - more a social event than a speedway meeting these days. -
Full Time Riders In Sgp
Subedei replied to spiderweb's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think IMG will try and centrally contract the GP riders and try to dictate the ancillary meetings the GPers do. When they do, they'll come against the powerful vested interests, such as the all-powerful Polish league. I suspect that'll be the beginning of the end of IMG's infatuation with speedway and John Postlethwaite. -

Well, hopefully Pepe, Grzegorz and the mighty Kevin Wolbert will be on the top of their game, or things could turn nasty in the speedway crazy city of Zielona Gora.
-
Let's get even more confusing, shall we? Done a little further research and Berwick used the Park Road track during their nomadic year of 1981, when the details were as follows: Track Length: 320 yards - 292.5 metres. Track Record: 58.5 seconds, Wayne Brown (Berwick), May 30, 1981.
-
That's not such a bad idea. In fact, it's a very good idea. Then you could reasonably bill the actually league (or whatever) racing as the "Main Event". Sound thinking, young fellow.

I see that speedwayworld.tv is reporting that Andreas Jonsson wants to stay with Polonia Bydgoszcz for the remainder of his career. The only proviso is that Polonia stay in the Ekstraliga, which they've been in since 1951. Here's the story: http://www.speedwayworld.tv/en/news/a7984?...65603b922638d51

British Gp Draw Now Made
Subedei replied to Seb the Snail's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'd be very surprised if BP makes the final. I'd be astonished if he wins it. -
Interestingly, Hans Andersen DIDN'T think Jonsson should've been excluded - he said so on television. He wanted a re-run with all riders back, except Lindback, of course. And also said he hoped that Jonsson would go on and win the Grand Prix.
-
But did he really win? Leigh Adams came away from the meeting with 18 points, Jonsson only 16, which is the same as third place man Nicki P. Congratulations to Jonsson on winning the final and being proclaimed champion of the Danish Grand Prix, but congratulations also to Leigh Adams on scoring the most points.

I'm sorry Tomasz. I should have had more faith. But you must have stole some of the mighty Rempala's weirdness to get into the final at Copenhagen, surely? -
I seem to recall Tomasz Gollob indicating that 2007 was likely to be his final year in the GPs. But I just noticed a comment on speedwayworld.tv that suggests Gollob intends to hang around beyond the end of this season. The quote attributed to Gollob, after he failed to show for the Polish Golden Helmet is: "I hope to save my Grand Prix place with good performances in this year's series."

Quick Query Fer All You Polskas
Subedei replied to BigFatDave's topic in International World of Speedway
With the current situation in Poland, a lot of their second tier riders are being pushed out by foreign imports, so it'll not be surprising if a few look to the UK. As well as Michal Rajkowski, MSJ Speedway (who seem to be leading the charge when it comes to bringing British clubs and unfashionable Poles together) were also representing a guy called Pawel Baran during the winter. Nothing happened with him, but looking at MSJ's website, it looks like they could have another (un-named) rider on their hands: http://www.msjspeedway.com/msj/?q=node/807 -
More numbing news. I've never known anything like it. Rest in peace Kenny Olsson and my best wishes to his friends and family.
-
Interestingly (well, not really, actually), I was reading an old Speedway Star the other day and young Colin Pratt was complaining that an opposition team's top riders declined to appear in the Golden Sash, leaving just his Cradley Heath riders to ride against each other. That's the problem. It starts with the best intentions, but the top guys eventually tire of it and start to extract the urine.

Golden Helmet - Bydgoszcz, Poland
Subedei replied to tommy's topic in International World of Speedway
And it's doubtful that Messrs Gollob, Holta (who'll probably decide he'll be Norwegian to qualify for the GPs) and Hampel will take their allocated place in the qualifiers (should they finish in the top eight), leaving the authorities to seed the likes of Kolodziej and Ulamek through. -
Isn't that the second time in just four GPs this season that Harris has managed to draw No 1. Still, didn't do him any harm in Wroclaw.

Needs the incentive being kicked out of the GPs would give him. Or do we think that he'd fold, rather than rise to the challenge like Andersen did? -

Scott Nicholls In The Gps
Subedei replied to Paula's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The difference being that Jonas Davidsson doesn't claim to be worthy of a GP place. Sorry, but from reading SCB's posts, he's not been too impressed with the British Champion's performances for Coventry this season. And, of course, the British champion did say before the season that the GPs were a priority and that this was a "make or break" season for him. At the minute it's a break season and I can't see it turning around. In truth, he's having the same sort of GP season that Richardson had last season and for the same reason - he shouldn't be there.
