  1. After Somerset dropped points at Ipswich on Thursday, we really had to get something out of this and it is R/R and reserve scoring which has let us down. As I've said before, we've got a team geared to score solidly from 1-7, whilst on some meetings, especially away, we have to support Kasper which is where having an experienced reserve like Lambert comes in. As much as it is good to give Ben these much needed meetings for his development, not getting an established guest, especially away from home is going to cost us. We've had 5 meetings this season, it's too early to write it off because of injuries.
  2. Mitchell first came over with Josh Grajczonek to Glasgow, one of them sank, one swam, yet the sinker still gets a ride over a home grown rider who is just as good if not better. The Bears may as well sign Arlo Bugeja again!
  3. Genuinely think he couldn't as he struggled once the lights came on too, still it was great acting if not! Me too, clearly got to Morris too, think Olly is going to be good for us this year, his experience and little tricks like that will be worth just as much as the points he scores on track.
  4. Think the Rebels will be the happier side with the draw, the Rocket's were certainly robbed of the win by mechanical failures. Morley and Mellgren both retiring whilst in 5-1 advantage positions in heats 2 and 15 respectively offset the heat 10 re-run which saw the Rebels lose a 5-1 as Olly couldn't clear the track in time. Another note on the Ref, three or four fourth bend incidents cannot have been seen as the red lights were put on ridiculously late, in a couple of cases as the riders were entering the third turn at speed the following lap, could have caused a serious injury. Also the kickboards were dislodged one heat and the ref should have stopped it.
  5. Playing devil's advocate here, Mear's 4.44 EL average converts to 7.40 in PL terms, Bring him in and we have 4.73 to play with to sign another rider under the 42.5 limit, Garrity is on 4.67 so there's not much scope but we could get him to reserve. A rider who would fit, granted, one I've never rated is Lubos Tomicek, but the desired effect of getting Garrity to reserve is met if he is signed. Once Lambert is fit, he replaces Tomicek, by that time Garrity will have a new average and be back in the main team regardless. When Bunyan is fit, he can also step back in too as the two riders who I am suggesting signing have higher averages than the men they are replacing respectively. Of course if the riders we signed were riding better than the others they would hopefully keep their places. My preferred route is still Nedermark and Tresarrieu: 1. Allen 2. Tresarrieu 3. Mellgren 4. Nedermark 5. Nelson 6. Lykke 7. Garrity That team would take some serious stopping.
  6. He seemingly has a good relationship with Rye and I reckon he'll ride for the Rockets one day. As for beyond that, being from Norfolk, I can see him riding for Kings Lynn in the EL.
  7. Lambert can be replaced before Bunyan, I'm sure Kasper will get going but R/R isn't what anyone wants to see and if we pick up another injury it turns a problem into a crisis. Getting Garrity into a reserve berth is pivotal to us going forward from these unfortunate injuries.
  8. How sad that we are discussing team changes enforced by injury so early in the season! A three pointer (Morley) and a heat leader standard rider is the wrong way to go. We need to sign two riders who will push Jason Garrity to reserve. Morley deserves a chance but we would be too weak at reserve with him partnering Nielsen whilst Kasper finds his feet so it's a no go, especially in a team geared to have two strong reserves. If and it's a big if Sedgemen has the right attitude to PL racing he's on an attractive average. I'd personally try and get hold of Claes Nedermark and Mat Tresarrieu. Nedermark has potential and will do well at Rye, whilst Tresarrieu has been good around Rye and will do well on away circuits, think we'd get a lot more from him than Ipswich managed to as well. Plus of course that leaves Jason Garrity back at reserve!
  9. Firstly, the track wasn't to blame for either of the crashes that led to the injuries, they were racing incidents. The track wasn't up to much granted but as I understand it has been a problem with lots of tracks due to the unseasonable weather we have had. They have frozen and it has cut them up something chronic whilst they have thawed. They can't be watered heavily as once they have thawed it'll turn the track into a bog. The racing we did see was very good, the injuries are a great shame and I hope the riders all make swift and full recoveries. It may be too soon but Len needs to make two signings now, using all the points available to him and getting Jason Garrity into a reserve berth.
  10. Garbage rule, regardless of all the bickering about whether it's legal or not. Is not paying a few bonus points for third placed finishes going to really be that effective as a cost cutting measure? Doubt it highly. What it is going to do is promote team mates racing against each other, leading to more strung out races as team riding is disregarded and riders taking unnecessary risks trying to beat their partner into second place. Complete own goal IMO, can't see the rule surviving long.
  11. It's early days, however there are always going to be short sighted opinions on how the team will do. It's a side packed with potential, give it time over the season and we're really going to blossom. I still fully expect us to be surprising a fair few and making a decent challenge for the play-offs.
  12. Hope it's okay to post the link here, for those wanting to know more about Tyler Govier, I recently interviewed him, very level headed and has a bright future ahead of him. http://tuckerspeedway.wordpress.com/2013/03/23/tyler-govier-interview/
  13. Struggling with fame? Sorry, he's a speedway rider, he's not a celebrity. The days of riders being household names is long over unfortunately.
  14. You've got Steve Worrall entering his third season of Premier League racing, he has some experience and he has a real make or break year to get out of the reserve berths. If Kerr is persisted with he'll be a very good signing long term, very good team lining up for the Diamonds.
  15. No, when you can take a joking comment in good humour then you can join the guessing games, maybe pass the parcel too, but not musical chairs
  16. Because some Dudley fans said they want him so he has no choice. It's like National Service, you don't get a choice.
  17. If early press releases are to be believed then Ben Morley, David Mason and Connor Coles are likely to be involved and potentially Steve Boxall at number 1.
  18. Sorry but this is a sport, not just a business. No one sane would get involved with promoting speedway to make money out of it. Teams need to perform home and away. People go to watch their team in the hope they will win and that they will win trophies at the end of the season. If you take the attitude that you'll only bother at home then you're only ever going to be an also ran which begs the question, why bother running at all? This post is not aimed at Sheffield btw but a general trend which seems to be taking over British Speedway.
  19. http://speedwaygb.co/plannouncements13.html Not seen any announcements yet but look on the BSPA site and apparently the Tigers have signed Joe Screen, James Grieves and Harley Horwood for 2013.
  20. Good start to team building by Lynn, be interesting to see how they complete their line up.
  21. Can't see Kennett in the PL now tbh, think he'd have only signed for Rye at PL level.
  22. The line up comes to 39.92, only gotta improve by 0.8 It's an exciting team full of potential. A number one who will do the job home and away. Mellgren can make the step up to be a strong heat leader whilst we will always have two strong reserves. Granted I'd have preferred another 7 pointer as opposed to Lamber perhaps but that is the team we have and I think we will be in the mix come the end of the season.
  23. Gonna be interesting viewing these comments again come this time next year
  24. Sounds radical but why not just ask the rider where he wants to be.
