I can smell something remarkably like cow poo.

Averages staying roughly where they are now and if Nelson does actually return, I can imagine us lining up something like this next season: 1. Gjedde 2. Bunyan 3. Mellgren 4. Nelson 5. An Other (7-8ish) 6. Nielsen 7. Garrity That line up would take some stopping, improvement in Mellgren, Nelson, Nielsen and Garrity. Two strong reserves at all times with Gjedde and the other potential heatleader being able to lead from the front. If, as I suspect, we don't see Tyson again then I can see Kling and Lanham take the last two slots realistically. I'd like to see Josh Grajczonek as a Rocket, especially after yesterday's performance. Whether he could fill a slot I don't know.

Not the best meeting we've had this year, not the worst though considering the forecast bad weather meant watering the track too heavily would have been risky business. Josh Grajczonek proved a good choice of guest, looked very comfortable at Rye. I wouldn't be against seeing him in a Rye race jacket next season. R/R scored 5+1, less than Luke would have certainly. Anders started well, was a different rider after the interval, at least that'll keep his average down for next year. Lambert looked uncomfortable, still a little confused as to why we've signed him. Kasper was a little sluggish out the traps, the boy can pass though will be a top second string next season. Ben was very hit and miss, claimed another scalp in the form of Kauko Nieminen but once behind never looks like making a pass. Jason had a solid day, again after the interval he looked like a different rider. For the Lions I was shocked with how poor Magnus Karlsson looked, for a rider who was once one of the best in the league he only managed to beat Rye's reserves and Lewis Blackbird. Was good to see Neathy back at Rye and hear him talking, we have missed him certainly. My real concern is Lambert, whilst a lot of fans are against Ben Morley by the looks of things, he looks a lot more comfortable and quicker than Simon round Rye. We could use him on a 3 point average and get the same results with 7 points to play with to sign another heatleader. Put it this way why buy a car for £550 when you could buy the same car for £300? The Nelson programme notes, I personally think that is the last we will hear/see of him. If he comes back on a 5.33 average it'll be a good one, though I have my doubts.

Tai Woffinden is the highest averaged Brit in the Elite League. He's just as good as Bomber and Scotty, therefore he is just as prepared for the series. Another lad on the way up and finally starting to show his true potential is Danny King, he could come into contention in the next year or so, he still has a long career ahead of him. Seems to be a forgotten man.

Some of the comments here are laughable, something along the lines of giving Josh Auty a permanent GP wild card for next year from someone, I hope that was an attempt at humour. Auty would get destroyed in the GPs. The Wildcard system is flawed, it should all be decided by GP qualifying rounds. How someone decided who 'deserves' a wildcard place and the criteria which constitutes deserving that wildcard are a mystery, probably even to the person who makes the decision. Cardiff is the Speedway GP's biggest night, therefore there must be a Brit in the series full time as well as the meeting wildcard as a minimum. That means a wildcard to the series needs to be offered to Chris, Tai or Scott. Chris is showing at the moment he is struggling, Scott has had his time in the series but there is no doubt he could compete and in my opinion he is more geared up for the GP's than Chris. Tai is the future, he had one season which came too soon but he has shown in the SWC he can compete. Lets hope he gets the spot, I think it would be the right decision to make. As an aside, in the Formula One Grand Prix, you couldn't consider the drivers to be the best 24(?) in the world.

Uninspiring signing, I wish Simon all the best but I just don't see the point. He won't be a strong reserve if he drops down, there's a reason he has had so many clubs. Getting another promising assessed rider an average and giving Ben Morley or another 3 pointer a chance to impress would be the logical option in building for next year. Tyson 'Lord Lucan' Nelson needs to turn up and hit the ground running now of we want to make any impression late in the season.

Was a very good meeting, we're getting a fair few this season at Rye. Kasper looks like he's going to be some prospect, not afraid of mixing it with the likes of Barker and trying to put hard moves on him. I have to say he may be a rider in the Pedersen mould who will push it to the max and could cause a bit of controversy but that's what we need. First impressions from his two home meetings are that we've got a gem on our hands. For Plymouth I have to mention Reade, not sure if he's ridden at Rye before but he had a smooth style and looked assured, not far off the pace at all.

Not by me, I can't be held accountable for other Rye fans comments, good luck to Adam and Richie Worrall riding in all 3 leagues, good to support our own riders, still, I've digressed. Damn!

Yet the Roynon riding in all three leagues "debate" is dragged up in every Dudley thread. Quite amusing. There seems to be a theme with some Dudley fans, I remember when they were at Rye earlier in the season a couple of blokes in their mid forties from Dudley hurling abuse across the tempstand at a couple of OAP Rye fans who in fairness don't know when to keep it shut themselves. As me and my friend stood up to leave after heat 15 the Dudley fans thought we were going to confront them, I don't think they appreciated us laughing in their faces much either.

Lambert isn't an inspiring signing, though Hawkins wasn't exactly setting the world alight either! He'll be just like Brundle last year, a stop gap til the end of the season. Now the averages have changed we've missed the boat on a 7 point rider to replace Luke, will be interesting to see who does come in, maybe an assessed 5 pointer but we have to act very quickly if we want to get someone an average for next season. We're doing the right things building for next season, Gjedde, Melgren, Neilsen, Bunyan, Garrity and Nelson plus one other, potentially Lanham or Kling, would be a very tasty looking line up.

Not a generalisation at all, you name me one rider who isn't like that and I'll tell you five who are. So you're saying that Swedes, Danes and Poles are more affluent than us? I think not.

I wonder how many of our young lads have approached clubs abroad, I bet there's hardly any. I bet there's also hardly any who are prepared to travel. Most of (not all) the young British riders are more interested in the lifestyle and being swooned over by 15 year old girls who for some reason adore them than actually going out and being successful in the sport, that's where we are going wrong. The riders have the wrong attitude.

The right move to make in my opinion, we should really be trying to bring another assessed youngster in to replace Luke too though, the points are available to do so. I'll keep saying the name in the hope that it'll happen but Anton Rosen looks like he could be another in the Linus mould. Not sure where the Bunyan knocking is coming from. He is only at reserve still due to rolling averages, he's currently sitting at 6.14 with bonus points, 5.35 without. Shows he has picked up a lot of bonus points. We have really missed Neathy this year despite what some will undoubtedly say, though hopefully Charlie will stay with us as our number one for next season. I doubt we will ever see Nelson again, whilst if Luke is going to miss half of next season we have to plan without him for the whole campaign. There are two team spots to be filled, it'd make sense to blood two new assessed Scandinavian riders and get them real starting figures for next season as I've already mentioned we should be checking out Anton Rosen. I'd expect the team next year to include Mellgren, Bunyan, Kling (Len seems to like him) Garrity and hopefully Gjedde too.

The way I see it, we now have two choices. A) Bring in two established riders, the best I can come up with off the top of my head being Kling and Travis McGowan. Tomas Topinka is an option, not sure if he's still riding though, would be brilliant for team spirit though. B ) Bring in two new assessed riders to get them averages, with the Swedish connections we have we could uncover a couple of new Sundstroms with any luck, they'd start next season on lower averages probably and that'd be to our benefit. Anton Rosen looks like a fantastic prospect and is only 20. In my opinion there's no point making one established signing and one new rider, if we do we won't be in the hunt for the play-offs so we may as well blood two new riders.

Doolan for Frampton? I know it's not gonna happen but...

I'd rather take Ben than McBain who has been around since the Armadale Dale Devils days and still not made the breakthrough. Location may be a hinderance granted but the fact is if he was at the same level as Ben he'd be in a NL team regardless. No disrespect meant to McBain, he clearly isn't the best rider available. Edit: Just read the press release myself, Adam McKinna is riding at Workington, McBain is only riding at Glasgow.

Doolan for Luke is a no go without making another change.

Only issue being we won't be able to declare Nelson into the side until his visa has cleared which is supposedly going to be in mid-July. It's amused me seeing a few posts on here saying our season is over already, as long as we can achieve a top 6 finish then our season can be alive til the end of October. It's a shame we have lost Luke, he loves the club undoubtedly and has been in decent for this year home and away, will we see him again this year? Who knows though I'm not so sure. If we have a side of Gjedde, Frampton, Mellgren, Nelson, Bunyan, Hawkins and Garrity and they are all firing come the business end of the season then there is no reason we can't win the title. The key part there is that they all need to be firing at the same time as opposed to the inconsistency we are currently experiencing.

The lad is good, he has every right to a nice race suit and to pop wheelies, strange people assume it's an ego thing, could maybe be a 13 year old lad having fun and enjoying doing what he loves? The Raiders did try to get him into the side for this season, however were refused permission, which is a shame as he is a fantastic rider and talent which could have been nurtured for both his and British speedway's future. Given the right guidance he can be a world class rider. As for Garrity riding for the Raiders, it makes sense and will be good for everyone involved, he's started to fire in the Premier League, another lad with undoubted potential, with Morley, Sarjeant and Hazelden also in the Raiders side, the future is looking bright for Rye House.

Gjedde has had a slow start in 2 away meetings, think he'll pick up though, he's riding better for us than he did for Berwick last season although granted he isn't riding to the standards he showed at Newport. He'll pick up soon I'm sure, he's the sort of rider who can make Rye his own fortress if he gets dialled in. As has been mentioned if Nelson comes back for Hawkins then we'll have a very decent team on our hands.

Maybe if he is riding a bit harder this season that's why he's had a great start to the campaign, it's called having balls. Here's an idea, why not send each rider out for four laps on his own for his programmed rides and whoever gets the fastest time is the heat winner, no-one can get hurt by anyone other than themselves then and i'm sure it'd be really exciting.

Wouldn't be so sure about that, reckon the Peterborough team may edge it but not by much.
